i know you want a geniune one, but i'd seriously recommend trying out a fender CIJ 70's reissue, my dad has a white one, black pickguard, rosewood neck, like you want, and its absolutely brilliant. has US pickups, too. its getting nicely mojo'd now, too, and hes only had it a few years.
Does he want to sell it?? Seriously?? I managed to miss 2 for sale on here recently and I am happy to go down the CIJ route if one comes along. I guess I would really like an original from the 70's to fill that nostalgia hole, but when reality strikes (looking at the bank balance), I'd certainly entertain the Jap version as an option if one comes up soon. M.
...... In fact, farting while you type the description costs extra.
Really?!?! Sweet Jesus, I owe them a bloody fortune then!

When I saw yours I thought I had it nailed, but I really really want a rosewood neck and not maple and a genuine US body for this purchase. Though it is in the back of my mind still. Yeah, I conveniently forgot the import duty.. I think the UK based one is the way to go and just get a new plate. I'm not a collector but I'd like it to be as close to original as possible.
-
Sage advice indeed Chris. Maybe I need to consider the alternate one, at least it's in the UK but would need a new s/plate. I liked the fact the US one has the "A" neck, original case and it looked in fine nick. A lot of cash? uhmm not really!!

Could some one give me a bit of advice on the P bass in the link. This is the sorta thing I want and it all seems original but I was wondering about the fact it has no stamp on the end of the neck. That and it looks in very good condition. (pity it’s the US and the £ is so pants). I think the price is gonna run though. There is another on ebay, but if I mention it here.. will others have a pop for it?? Sorry gotta be selfish when the GAS comes.

No comment on his playing style (which I like), but I think you could count Hooky as a pro..!!

Peaches the best bass line? I think partly because it is recognisable by the first three notes. "I'll name that tune in three!". I think the Stranglers had the embodiment of punk, but not really the ethos. Their music was re-moulded to fit the emerging punk scene. A number of harder pub rock bands saw that opening. Their individual musicianship, writting skills and unique band sound set them apart from the rest. The fact that they IMHO became a sort of bastardised version of prog near the end of the Cornwell era. JJ was the inspiration for a huge array of spotty young oiks to pick up a bass and try to join in with London Lady, Hanging Around, Something Better Change. Thanks JJ Finally, yeah he could shred. Listen to him play School Mam live, the 77 Hope & Anchor gig is a great example.

Simple, cheap straplocks. No screws needed. £4
Marky L replied to solo4652's topic in Accessories and Misc
I've used those for a while now and had no real issues TBH. If you have a thick strap, then you may find fitting them a bit tight unless you have a long strap pin. I also like the classic "Grolsch" method too except I don't like the red rubber look.. need to get the felt pen out! -
OK I've had a look at the supplement sheet and it lists a few possibles! SET CODE COLOUR CODE FREQ US58 purple 734.600 US60B dark purple 751.550 UK69A violet 854.900 maybe this one ISM3 cyclam 864.850 what the hell is 'cyclam'?!? hope that helps a bit. M

I know the paper work that came with mine listed out the frequencies and the specific colour codes used for each. I can look when I get home. I know mine is like a very pale grey. I use a tiny bit of blu tack to stick the back end of the bug to my bass, just to give it that little bit of extra security. I only hope that the blu tack doesn't have some adverse reaction to the finish on my bass.

Wow! This is cool, and some local stores too! Pity no PA or mics, exactly what we need. Might help to force our drummer to upgrade from his Fisher Price My First Drum Kit though

Oh giddy buggering bloody f*ck!! How did I miss this?!?!?! Serves me right for being away from a PC for a couple of days. Man I'd have bitten my own hand off for that bass. One of these is on my long term GAS list. Well, Jonthebass, if you happen to change your mind or are looking to move it on please let me know I'm sure you could do with that cash back in your pocket :lol

Looking good And I totally approve of the colour schemes.. that's what I like! Out of interest, do you think the US P is markedly better than the MIM or is it a close call? M.
Bought it from Sound Control during the close down phase. The problem is that it is the ac/dc adaptor with the shaver type pins coming out of it so it looks like I will need a complete new adaptor.
BigRedX is correct. By law it should be supplied with a correctly moulded UK power unit.. but the fact that it was from Sound Control as they closed down doesn't help. Try contacting the manufacturer. As for it being a shaver style connection, I would hazard a guess that it's actually a Euro 2 pin plug and you can get plenty of adaptors for that. Or go down the dodgy route of using something to poke in the earth pin hole of the socket to open up the other two socket holes and then jam the bugger in. Done it with laptops before *Disclaimer. If you die or blow up because of the above advice, don't come limping to me.
Didn't you get a little circle of self-adhesive velcro (well, 2 actually.... ) ?
Yeah I did (just one) but I didn't think it would stay sticky for long. Hmm.. so should I have had like a male and female velcro pad for some bug to bass velcro fun? Actually, now I think about it, maybe it is both halves but they are joined together (in a velcro love style situation) already.. me have a look later when I'm back home. Anyway, the Blutac allows me to use it on more than one bass easily.
John McCoy Jimmy Bain Phil Lynott JJ Burnel Justin Chancellor etc...
Just to be a pedantic nob.. Wasn't Phil Lynott from the magical shores of The Republic of Ireland and therefore not British? (Politics and nationalism aside!). Totally agree with JJB though, how could he be missed off the list??

I just bought one of the AKG Bug units and have only tried it at home so far. Gig on NY Eve so I'm looking forward to using it then. On my P bass, I have had to turn the actual Bug volume screw all the way down or I get the red clipping light come on, so those PUPs must be pumping it out My only criticism so far is that it does flap about a bit if I get a bit boisterous (oo~err). The careful application of a bit of Blutack does the job though. No one else in the band has wireless so I should be fine. My two reasons for getting one were 1. Pissed off with getting in a tangle with my cables. 2. Had a few too many 'tickles' when touching the mic and bass at the same time. I don't like all that electrickery.

Some one should introduce her to one of Mr Fender's finest and a nice amp to go with it.

Oh fart. Am I ever gonna find a JG at the right price that I can actually get my hands on without any grief!?! Bless his mum for looking after him. I wonder if she still dresses him in the morning too?
-
I like mine slung low, so that I can rest my packet on the top of the contour curve. That works for me And I actually get really bad sort of cramp/constriction in my right arm (inside of my elbow joint) if it is bent too much i.e. playing sitting down.
-
Yeah, I have spotted that and did consider, but I rrrrrrrreally want that 70's TV logo.
-
I watched and waited and off the bidding went. I would have loved that, but it went a bit too high for me but it did look nice and together. That other one looks nice, but I want a r/w board. Just look at that colour though.. mmmmmmmmmmm creamy

All you have to remember at times like this is - I'm not the drummer.
