  1. chuck rainey used a style called patting on the tune rock steady which is essentially what it sounds like you pat the E and a string to generate sound (today he uses slap for that tune as he plays 5 string)
  2. played the smaller room at the 02 academy islington last night after soundcheck the promotor took the artist aside and asked to book us for a support slot in the main room in february
  3. gig with London college of music big band great fun and best of all finished with an earth wind and fire medley cooking nicely and i drop a lick in the middle of september and just hear whoops from the pianist and drummer (problem is i've gotta do that every time now) recommend playing with a big band at least once in your playing career its great fun and the best part is theres loads of people to get pissed with after the gig

  7. ok so long story short its that time of year again when al the radio stations go nuts with the christmas songs unfortunately i play in a couple of function bands and we've been forced into learning some tunes however i'm sat here listening to i wish it could be christmas by wizzard man some of the harmony in that song and particularly the runs into the chorus and bridge are awesome i'm begrudgingly admiring the writing of that song its very well written anyone know the bass player on that track offhand? sorry to have jumped the gun with my premature christmassyness but i thought this deserved some recognition peace chris

  10. hi guys i'm thinking about acquiring a fretless 5 string to use for musical theatre work just a bit of background i'm a 5 string player mainly and so i'm pretty comfortable on that (bacchus 5 string w bartolini pup and a j retro) i've played fretless before however not a great deal like i said it will be primarily for musical theatre work and so generally they want it to sound "very fretlessy" i'm starting to get a lot of this work and its being asked for more and more would i be better buying a 5 string fretless off the shelf and if so any recommendations? or alternatively would i be better buying a cheap fretted 5 (thinking squier or mim fender) have it defretted and putting matching pickups and preamp into it budget is between £500 - £700 opinions please? disclaimer: i've tried to give as much information as i can if i've missed something feel free to ask

  14. did an irish wedding in st albans first one with a new pa rig which meant we could put everyone through the pa. Less volume on stage = easier to hear everything. Awesome gig and for once no singers complaining they couldn't hear themselves crowd were well up for a party and so the floor was filled all night (even when i was djing) and we even learned a couple of irish tunes for them

  23. sorry to hear dude not much to add really other than echoing the sentiments of others the function market can be a very competitive place so you've got to put in a lot of hard work to make things happen and have a good group of people who are on the same page worth investing time and money in though as function gigs can in fact be more lucrative than playing for original artists i help to run a function band in the ruislip and herts area and funnily enough we're in st albans next weekend if theres anything i can do to help or if you have any questions feel free to give me a pm for a chat
  24. hi mate is this a 4 ohm or 8 ohm cab?
