Thanks guys the reviews I read were that the pickups in the jazz were not great , and the musician style pickup in the Precision version wasn’t the best however the split coil was good but in passive mode the Weight is also a worry , there are a couple of cheaper Precision’s that would probably serve my purpose especially as it would only be gigged in an emergency or played around on at home

Looking for a relatively cheap back up to my Marusczyk Jake as at the moment we have regular gigs starting again at the beginning of July Covid permitting. I'm down to one bass for the first time for a while, however not keen on spending too much as i always tend to use the Jake, so a spare would at the most time be left in a case or on a stand for emergencies. Quite like the look of these for the price especially as they have the same pick up configuration as my Jake , just wondered if anyone has experience of them be interested in peoples thoughts Seen a few you tube reviews which seem favourable Cheers

Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?
peety replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
First one back for us today early evening outside gig at the local cricket club, ticketed sold out , think the appetite for live music is certainly out there we’re probably under rehearsed and bound to be a bit rusty but very excited to be back playing live again -

We’ve got 16 booked in to date starting with an outdoor gig on the Sunday of May bank holiday others are a mixture of pub gig functions and a couple of garden parties which start beginning of July and hopefully will go ahead Quite a few of our regular venues are still waiting for budget confirmation but we expect more bookings to start coming in from May So good to have gigs to look forward to again -

I’d really like to try one of these been looking at them for a while , been trying to find a second hand one as I don’t fancy shelling out for a new one at the moment , don’t seem to be many second hand ones around at the moment though Might have to wait till shops are open again and see if I can find one to try out -

Really interested in one of these struggling to justify it at the moment with all our gigs being cancelled but finding it hard to resist. Thought I was set on black but the gold finish looks great might have to think again. -
We played last week social club socially distanced all seated one set went on at 8.20 to 9.30 packed up and out by 10 home by 10.30 could get used to this 😂😂. gig arranged through our drummers girl friend whose dad is in charge there , they normally only have solo artists. Not our audience at all really as the age range was probably 50 - 75. Wasn’t looking forward to it at all thought we would be too loud for them and thought we didn’t have the correct sort of repertoire although we have a really eclectic mix we do a lot of indie stuff as that’s our usual audience. to be honest I couldn’t have been more wrong they were up for it from 1st song obviously no dancing , but lots of singing along which isn’t strictly allowed. I got the impression they were just happy to have some sort of normality and were determined to enjoy it. thoroughly enjoyable evening great to play live only the 4th time since lockdown forgotten how much I enjoy gigging and miss playing every week. Cant see anything else happening till next year unfortunately as all our gigs have been cancelled up to end of November, expecting all December gigs to go the same way

Most venues near us seem to be going down the solo / duo route which is probably understandable because of cost , while we understand the situation and are quite prepared to help out our regular venues by reducing normal fees, we won’t be playing anywhere for free and won’t be taken advantage off especially when they’re selling tickets.

Got offered a gig Saturday at what was previously a night club in Wigan . That has turned the old smoking area which is large into a beer garden , ticketed event 100 people at circa £5 a head sold out DJ and band , started off offering us a free bar and accommodation we all live 15 minutes away , when we said no upped it to £100 , no thanks mate pretty sure the DJ won’t be doing it for £25 , we’re generally a busy band and all keen to get back gigging but have to draw the line somewhere, our normal price for pub gigs is £300 minimum we offered to do it for £200 due to Covid but they seem to assume they were doing us a favour. I’m aware times are hard but hope it’s not the sign of things to come

Real-world gigging experiences post-COVID - how is it for you?

We did a birthday party in someone’s back garden last week bit strange but nice to be out again, we were due to play outside at the local cricket club tonight after the game and another garden party birthday next Friday. However after Greater Manchester was put back into some extra lockdown measures in due to an increase in cases both have been postponed. A bit frustrating as Wigan has one of the lowest rates in the North West and well below the national average. But they have decided to include the whole area in the measures other than borough by borough. We have another gig booked for next Saturday at a bowling club but I fully expect that to be cancelled as well. -
Played last Friday at a garden party and have been booked for 2 more this month, enough room to social distance maybe these parties are the new thing. We,’re also doing an outside gig at the local cricket club where we rehearse free for them. in all honesty while as a 4 piece we are able to social distance I’m not convinced that these gigs should be allowed based on the guidelines that have been sent. However there seem to be numerous pubs in the area advertising live music outside and i’ve Even seen a couple starting to advertise indoor gigs. Nice to back out playing though

Putting up for sale my Fender Player Precision bass in classic Black /Maple combination. Bought as a back up to my Maruszczyk Jake about 12 months ago. To be honest the bass exceeded any expectations I had, it is not only an excellent bass at the price point but just an excellent bass full stop. I have had a number of USA Fenders and this is comparable in many ways and you certainly wouldn’t think there was nearly £1000 difference in quality. So why am I selling well at the moment most of our gigs are cancelled until at least October and I don’t need 2 precision’s and I can’t bring myself to sell the Jake. Bass has been gigged but not extensively and is strung with GHS precision flats. The replacement black pick guard is a fender one and I will include the original white one as well. Bass is in excellent condition and will come with a gig bag and the price includes postage. I am in Wigan in the North West and happy for a socially distanced collection which would reduce price by £25 i have attached photos but they are taken on my iPad and not great if you require more or if you want more information please drop me a message. Not interested in trades at this moment in time sorry

I bought one as a back up to my marusczyk Jake paid about £575 for it way exceeded expectations, now gets gigged probably as much as the Jake , not just a great bass for the money just a great bass. I’ve had a number of USA precision’s and there certainly isn’t a £1000 difference in quality

Just in case anyone is interested Mark sent me some pictures of a white over candy apple red precision he has made for stock, I was originally talking to him about making me a similar bass but with white blocks and he was struggling to access a neck. He e mailed me the pictures in case I would be interested it’s a stunning bass ,but at present with the fact it’s unlikely we’ll be gigging before the end of the year and the fact I already have 2 precision’s I really can’t justify another. Thought i’d Post just for your perusal and on the off chance someone is looking for a precision, i’ve had 3 basses off Mark and they more than hold their own with any other bass I’ve owned. If anyone is interested I have some more photos just drop me a message

52 gigs done last year got about 35 booked in this year so far however we’ve deliberately left gaps to give us options to take on other stuff as we had to turn down some better work due to existing bookings We have been more selective this year and have decided we won’t give venues more than 2 dates We always take January off so enjoying a rest after an extremely busy end to the year

Taken at Orrell live earlier this year headlined by Alexander O’Neill not a fan of his and he was pretty ordinary but his band were really top quality gave us the chance to run around on a big stage and wear the obligatory shades -
I bought a player series precision about 3 months ago as a back up to my maruszczyk Jake and since I got it I've gigged with it exclusively, excellent basses , light playable great neck no discernible difference between it and any of the American P basses I've had certainly not worth the extra cost for me wouldn't hesitate to buy another

I've just sold my LImelight as it was too heavy for me for long gigs , took the plunge on one of these in black maple , spent last night playing it , really is excellent quality for the price point . Also good weight which is what is really important to me. Need to change the strings to flats and get it set up , I've got a black white black pickguard on the way I bought this as a back up to my marusczyk but I can honestly see it getting an awful lot of gig time.
