It really is a great bass but we do a lot of gigs that are long 2 hour sets and it's just too heavy for my aging shoulder 😂😂 i have a Marusczyk which is sub 8lbs which makes the limelight seem even heavier I have ordered a replacement from Mark and while he can't guarantee it being really light is confident it will be lighter than this one. Marks basses are so good I felt I needed to get myself another

It's with real regret that i am putting this bass up for sale as i love the sound the feel of the neck and basically everything about it except the weight , it's just a little too heavy for me to play longer gigs with. I appreciate that this level of relic will not be to everbodys taste however this is another fine example of Marks work his pick ups are some of the best i've heard and these are no different, , the bass plays superbly below is the spec as outlined on Marks site as you can see it's got a lot of top quality components I've had this bass 6 months it's been gigged but not over used to be honest I've played it more at home . Forgot to add prefer a sale but may consider trade for a black, black , maple P Bass Limelight 00220 Heavy Relic Precision in sunburst with J width neck This Limelight Precision was built as a 68/69 bass and we went to town on the specs. It has all the usual Limelight features but in addition also has the metal earthing plates under the pick ups, an extra added Jazz pick up in the bridge position ( a very popular mod back in the day) plus the extra knob required and side mounted jack socket. It also has a genuine Fender nitro-cellulose pickguard which are over £100 to buy new! If this spec was to be ordered today then it would cost over £1150! I’m offering it at a good price as I currently have 3 Limelight’s for sale and in stock, and usually I have none, so quick sale required. The bass is very heavy relic sunburst, with “J” width rosewood fretboard with clay dots and rolled fretboard edges, and has the usual high quality components such as CTS pots, Switchcraft jack socket and vintage wiring. Price is firm and includes postage and a Hard case if you would like to collect from Wigan I'll reduce by £50 , The bass is not light i don't have an exact weight but it is in excess of 9lbs and probably wouldn't suit anyone like me who has a dodgy shoulder or back issues Happy to send more pictures if anyone wants any

My two pet hates Sit Down and Dancing in the Moonlight unfortunately everyone appears to love them , so we always seem to have to play them , Sit Down especially appears to make sensible people behave totally out of carachter and sit on the floor in the middle of a crowded pub !!! Toploader to me is just mind numbingly boring but maybe it's just me

We don't tend to have a set list decide on the first 3 songs of the first set then play it by ear depending on the audience , makes life a bit more interesting we find , seems to work well for us

I can see why that would appeal lovely looking bass

I must have been lucky I'd already had a couple of LImelight basses when I saw this on Marks website , was a special build he'd done , I had spoken to him before about a sunburst relic but he had always said it was very difficult to do. Probably a bit too heavily relic' d for some people but I like it and it plays beautifully Cheers Steve

Mark had made me a Dakota red 58P and I was struggling with the size of the neck ,when I saw this on the website, This is the 3rd LImelight I've hadn't they've all been great basses but this is the best , the Jazz neck makes it extremely playable. This really does feel so played in and strung with flats has that proper old school P bass vibe , Marks pickups are up there with the best I've ever played Also had a lot of comments from band mates and people at gigs , as I said lots of people don't like the whole relic thing but I guess that's a personal thing

Got this from Mark after seeing the picture on his web site , now I'm aware such a heavy relic is not to a lot of people's taste however I really like the look and it plays sublimely It's meant to be a 68/69 precision with a Jazz width neck and the addition of the J pup which apparently was a popular mod around then also has a genuine Fender nitro cellulose pickguard and a side mounted jack socket. Only downside it is slightly heavy for long sets but it's worth the trade off To me another example of a quality bass from Mark

Thanks for the kind offer ead I may well take you up on that in the future
-
Thanks for that , I'm really torn at the moment however I think I need to at least try one , I've never been one for fiddling around with things I like the simplicity of the Precision although both my P basses have a jazz pick up which gives me a nice amount of flexibility Ultimately I need to have something I'm going to use regularly so I'm sort of leaning towards another Maruzsczyk as I know the weight will be light and to be honest exactly what I'll get for the money decisions decisions 😂😂
-
Thanks for that I guess I'm just looking for a bit of reassurance everything I have read about them has been positive While 9LBS is a bit heavier than my Maruszczyk its not an issue and by the sound of things the versatility of the bass would have all bases covered

Very interested in this thread , I'm pretty much a died in the wool precision man to the point I come out in a rash if I go near a jazz bass. However Spectors are looking very appealing to me especially the Euro LX with the PJ configuration , So a couple of questions to you experts how do they compare to a precision in term of tones etc , what are they generally like for weight , I have a great Limelight but I'm struggling with playing long sets with it due to weight as opposed to my Maruszczyk which is really light. I'm in Wigan and looking around there don't seem to be any local stockists and at around £1700 they're no cheap to take a punt on Other option is a used one which is what I'm thinking about just interested in peoples thoughts I play in a covers band which covering everything from Indie to motown depending on gig Cheers steve

Just got this photo from Mark Dakota red with gold adonised guard 1957 precision and a spare parchment guard Mark says it looks brighter in the photo than the actual whatever it is looking good
-
Yes that is mine I did think better of it even though I have a white one as well seriously good value for the money and the spec available
-
Spooky hahaha was originally going for black black maple then I saw this and couldn't resist Wasn't 100 percent sure of the gold adonised plate so I've ordered an extra one in parchment as well for a bit of variety

My Maruszczyk Jake was based on the specs of a Duck Dunn I had blocked and bound neck matching headstock I decided against a jazz pickup at the bass , this comes in at around 7.5 lbs , I've had several laklands Dj , Bob Glaub , and loved them however I now have 2 Jakes and they are at least the equal if not better than the laklands , i had the bass pictured below up for sale I have since come to my senses and removed it

Last of a run of 4 gigs in 8 days for us last night ,circus carnival ball complete with large model animals amongst other things. Contracted for 2 x 45 minutes sets to be finished by 11.30 as they also had a DJ entertainer complete with dancers who would take the night through till 1.30pm. Arrived as agreed at 4pm to be told they had messed up the timings to be told they had issues with another room in the hotel and had moved those guests who had booked for a quiet singer only meal/ evening into the party. This would result in everything would overrun and we would only be going on at 1045 and would still finish at 1145 so only required to do 1 hour , not an issue but meant a bit of set rearrangement , About an hour before going on Manager came to us and said some people were complaining about background music being too loud and could we try and tone it down, Evening was beginning to have all the makings of a night mare at 10.20 the DJ went and did a 15 minute 70s spot complete with dancers at which point they were still serving food fair play to him he got crowd going for us straight on and did 80 minutes virtually without taking a breath to cram as much as possible in, turned out to be a blast our singer is a proper extrovert which helped and had dance floor full and bouncing all night so what looked like being hard work turned out to be a good night. had to wait till everything finished to pack down plus with an hour drive home didn't get in till 3.30 but all in all good night and extremely well paid so can't complain. month off now after a really busy 2017 40'gigs in already for next year so going to be another busy one
