2. Its been a long time but BUMP!
3. at the moment, anything by jamiroquai specially too young to die and blow your mind
4. anyone?
5. i'm loving the look of this bass even more every time you post your new photos man. I love Robbies fishtail bridge design!
6.
Damn it, just looked at the Shuker website at some of the new models... need some anti-GAS medication.
Mate, dont remind me........i took one look at some of the 'Horn' basses and thought "wow...." too bad i'm getting a chapman stick soon or i would be placing an order......
7. I would argue that your ability is largely irrelevant. if you love the instrument, and want something special building then go for it! Just because someone owns a Ferrari or some other performance car, doesnt necessarily mean they can drive like a certain michael schumacher. Its about appreciating the machine rather than them automatically being a good driver. A high end bass should bring the best out of your playing and, as has (i think) already been mentioned, inspire you to play. you dont have to be Matt Garrison or some other such virtuoso to 'merit' getting a custom bass made for you. go for it and enjoy it!
8. ace, il look into both of those, see whats what any more suggestions for small amps people?
9. At the moment, im working on the live version of Summer Rain by the Hiromi Trio (inc. the bass solo), Family by Matt Garrison and Chasing Shadows by Tony Grey
10. Hey people! Im looking for a new practice amp, that i can also use at small gigs (i.e. jazz trio/quartet). my current amp is on its last legs so its time to splash out on something new. Im after something that sounds round and warm (i dont like the harsh top end on my current small amp). Something reasonably portable would be good, and something that wont break the bank! looking at £200 - £300 at very most. suggestions please folks! Cheers
11. To replace all my gear, brand new...would be around the £2000 - £3000 mark including amps and effects I dread to think what some of the collections on here (Cetera and Doctor of the Bass, for example) would set one back!
12.
I'm going to be there. I'm taking two fingers for my ears, just in case. I'm going to have a couple of pints.
i'll be taking a decent pair of earplugs for wandering round the trade stands Me and a few others from Salford are gonna wander down and see whats going off
13. Mate, that looks absolutely gorgeous.....you're going to have (possibly) the two most beautiful basses on basschat when you're done!
14.
Hi All This year looks set to be another great year. Matt Garrison is on the cards just trying to finalise the details. The noise issue should have been resolved this year as it was a problem last year and has been addressed.
(Y) If Garrison is there i'll cancel whatever gig i have to in order to see him play
15.
Great all round Sax player , mainly Alto on a lot of the USA cop shows of the 70's. Have you noticed him doing Bari in the concert at the end of the funk brothers [Motown] video....? Garry
I have indeed! I heard his recordings for the GRP band on bari too and thought he was an ideal choice

17. Assuming i havnt got a gig i'll probably wander down only 20 mins from my uni accomodation! Am i correct in thinking that Matt Garrison is going to be there this year or is that just a rumour?
18. Going with some of the other posters here, i think that big band is the most listener friendly style of jazz music if you're looking to get into it. there are some really amazing recordings out there that are really listenable. heres a few i like from youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DK4Nr-u4_o Doc Severinsen with the Tonight Show band. some of the best arrangements in the big band repertoire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVq5mmjrWbA i stumbled across this a while back. Great kit playing Theres also alot of really great trio and quartet stuff out there worth listening to that isnt that 'radical' in jazz terms. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53c83k9JgHs Great recording of 'Deed I Do' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kd349Df1Ows The Michel Camilo Trio, Anthony Jackson on bass. Nuff said
19. I know its very early days for them yet......but i can well imagine Mike Pornoys collaberation/supergroup with Steve Wilson and Mikael Akerfeldt blowing everyone else away...
20.
I think some aspects of my playing are guitar orientated. I play chords, strum, finger pick 'acoustic guitar' type patterns, tap and play harmony parts for guitar solos. That on top of all the more Bass related techniques on my 6 & 7 string Basses. I make a point of mentioning that, as I have those extra strings there for that reason. So I can make use of other techniques. As with any technique or style - I choose to use it to enhance a song - not to waste time on some ego-boost mission. They are all legitimate techniques and should not just be limited to one instrument. Hell, if I thought it would sound good I'd have a cowbell strapped to my bass! he he! (ok.. I was jokin'... no more cowbell)
+1
21. If i were to be brutally honest, if Leo came along with the P design against the gear i use.....i would say his design was ungainly, cumbersome (one of the worst heels around), poorly balanced and in need of a hardware upgrade so yeah, you could say i am! i cant stand fender basses, but hey, horses for courses
22.
Absolutely beautiful. I love Tony's playing.
he is one of my favourite bassists at this moment in time if you havnt already, check out his solo album 'chasing shadows' some lovely tunes on there, wonderful melodic writing
23. I play an awful lot and my basses all get gigged on a regular basis, everything from pubs to theatre pits so i see it as inevitable that they will get knocked from time to time.
24. awesome result, well done!!!
