  1. Probably not this one: http://www.monsonguitars.com/guitararchive/virusbass.html Nor these: https://dreamvibesmusic.com/collections/corona-basses (or in fact anything made by a certain US factory?) Maybe an Eastone JAB might work?
  2. If the thread title drew your eye, you’re no doubt aware that early 1960s Jazz Basses had a top-mounted brass earthing strip running from bridge pickup to bridge, visible when the ashtray is removed. True bass geeks will also have spotted that there are at least two versions of this now-decorative strip on 1960s RI basses: the Japanese (thinner, running at a slight angle) and the American (fatter, running straight (perpendicular to bridge / pickup). Oddly, an unscientific trawl of genuine original 1960s Fender basses seems to indicate that the Japanese style is more accurate. Can anyone shed any light on the discrepancy? And for bonus points, when exactly did the change to internal grounding happen? (With thanks to virus panic for finally allowing me time to pose this long-pondered but horrifyingly trivial question). Thin strip: Thick strip: (Both basses pictured are said to be genuine 1962 instruments)
  3. I have a couple of basses with gold hardware. Can’t be bothered/afford to change them, but honestly it’s trying a bit too hard to look premium, isn’t it? Reminds me of nothing so much as the ‘fancy’ radiator grille on an Allegro Van Den Plas.
  4. Love it! Alas, the Gold Top is a bit too garish for me.
  5. Apparently not. Seems you need a 2ohm load to get the full 450w on the new models
  6. Sorry, I was going off the predecessor model, ignore me
  7. Thought they were the full 500w into 4 ohm?
  8. Did a vanity Google to find someone's MySpace page where they claimed to have played drums with our band on many occasions. Naturally none of us had heard of him. He lived hundreds of miles away. If we were in any way famous, or even 'Threatin' famous, I could understand. But we are literally Dog and Duck. And I don't even mean headlining the Dog and Duck.
  9. Also, there's Private Eye classifieds: http://www.eyeads.co.uk/
  10. You don't say how old you are, but for under-16s there's an interest-free loan scheme which bassdirect take part in: https://takeitaway.org.uk/ Otherwise, you're down to one of the following: * Bank loan / other credit * Sell a lot of / some expensive stuff * Upgrade your current bass, one piece at a time * Accept that it's a long-term (10+ years) goal and start saving. * Train in financial services, law or data analysis, then get a high-paid job and go buy the bass for cash. In your Ferrari. In all seriousness, it's way cooler to see someone who can really play on a ghetto instrument than it is to watch someone get by on an expensive one. Some of my favourite musicians make a point of spending as little as possible on their instruments.
  11. Brilliant! Can I suggest a warming-pan banjo next? Dare you to take it down the guitar shop and ask them to do a set-up on it.
  12. Back on sale at £350 owing to unexpected £350 bill. I am at your collective mercy ...
  13. Anyone else read that as 'get back to me, Pie a*se'?
  14. Nirvana supporting Tad, Portsmouth Poly students’ union, October 1989.
  15. I can do you everything bar the modest cost thing ...
  16. I reckon the Squiers are pretty good for the money. Like the more expensive Fender models, they benefit greatly from bridge replacement and lighter strings than the stock ones. It's a thing for the experimental player for sure, and if you're looking to use as a bari the 30in scale makes it harder to find suitable strings. But totally do it, yeah.
  17. Recorder players who keep pet mice are also warned to be vigilant
