This was it for a while, but I've got too many fretlesses and am tripping over them all. So this 2010 Fender American Standard Jazz Bass originally came with a horrid neck that wouldn't stay put. So I've had it replaced with a Status graphite fretless neck (sorry, the original horrid neck went on eBay for a pittance years ago). The work was done by Brighton luthier Bernie Goodfellow and I also got him to stick a Hipshot D-tuner on the E string. Prior to that I had EMG JV pickups fitted -- they're active pickups (battery under the bell plate) which are meant to retain the vintage sound while sorting out the hum and harsh edges. I like them lots. Sorry, the original pickups went on eBay too. You may be familiar with the Status replacement necks, but if not here's a link: [url="http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html"]http://www.status-gr...index_home.html[/url] For me, the graphite neck keeps all the growl and harmonics but removes some of the unwanted clank. The action will go ridiculously low if you wish. There's a double truss rod in there, accessed from the top. It's possibly overdue a tweakette by now. I've replaced the original tortoiseshell guard with a white one (from a Fender Standard instrument) because shell looked wrong. It's a player not a collector's item, but there's some serious hardware there. Somebody famous ought to buy it. Comes with the original Fender hard case. Located in Hove if you want a look. Postage costs to be discussed if you're interested. Ask things. Sorry, but to protect myself from expense, hassle and paranoia, I'm not willing to ship outside the UK. Thanks for understanding.[/s]

No mods, no crackles, strung nice and low, and the relic nitro finish is well classy innit. Neck pocket is tight as a gnat's chuff and it has been set up with Ernie Ball 40-95s by Mr Goodfellow of this parish. I used this as my main gigging bass during a spell of chronic fatigue, stupidly easy to play and no worries about damaging the finish. After three or four years I'm on the mend and back on a 5-string fretless. *** It's a slight second -- the sharp-eyed among you may have already spotted that the body has 1970s pickup spacing, with the bridge pickup positioned a few millimetres closer to the bridge than on 1960s models. This is reflected in the price, which is at least £100 less than average second-hand value. I've opened it up -- please check the markings in the high res pics -- and have no doubt that it's the real thing. I can only assume that someone at Ensenada picked up the wrong body for the relic treatment and didn't notice. Who knows, it might even become a valuable one-off ;-) That aside, this has everything you want from a Jazz Bass. The build quality is excellent, it plays lovelyly and sounds nice too. The bass is in Hove -- inspection welcome. I'll post at extra cost (to be discussed with the buyer). You can have it in a cheapo gig-bag or, if I can prise it out of the loft, the stinky horrid tweed-covered hard case it came to me in. Do ask questions or chime in if you like, especially if you can shed any further light on this one's, erm, uniqueness. It's strung with 40-95s so you would probably want to set things up to your liking. These just came in a box but I'm including a padded Fender gig bag in the price. Hope it helps.

Beautiful Olympic White with a dark rosewood board and tort guard. Built 2011 I believe, the only non-original parts are the pickups, which again are EMG JVs (gotta love the vintage growly noise they make). It has a ridiculously smooth low action after a proper fret-stoning. The only blemish is on the rear, where the neck screws have gone in a bit too far, leaving the backplate a little bent and the surrounding finish cracked. You can see this in the pics. Otherwise this is a shiny, fast Jazz at what I believe to be a bargainacious price. It's one of a special short run in love-or-loathe late 1970s 'Antigua' finish (smokeburst to lovers, snotburst to the other lot). Has the 1970s bridge pickup positioning, logo and 'bullet' truss rod tip. This has upgraded pups (EMG JV series, very hard to obtain these days, designed to give modern noiseless performance and reduce the harsh edges while retaining plenty of traditional Jazz Bass growl). I'll buy back the EMGs if you do. For sale are a pair of Fender Jazz Bass pickups whipped out of a 2012 Antigua FSR Jazz Bass (MiM). I can think of nothing whatsoever to say about them, other than they are whatever Fender Ensenada puts in its regular JBs, and that the green tape shown in the pix is just to keep the pups together with the covers and can, of course, be removed. Twenty squids plus postage sounds about right to me. They're in Hove if you want to nip round.
