they must get sick of all the tourists wondering down there getting there greasy mits over there gear with no intention of buying
well the proprietor can take sole blame for that! if they resent the tourist trap postcode so much (not to mention the astronomical shop rents) then move to somewhere else in town that is easily accessible but off the tourist track, then you know for sure that a significant number of the punters that cross your threshold are there because theyve made the trip purposefully rather than just wandered in off the street for a photo opp and gaze in wonderment at all the shiny grrr
Thank you all for this info - Saves me searching around in Google. Lossless all the way, death to iTunes and pretentious Mac sh*t
yay gruesome horrible death to the bloated itunes ffs that genius thing is just plain creepy i like foobar for playback however im going with freeRIP for ease of use interface to do all the ripping edit - and freeRIP is pretty quick too even on my old slow machine im glad ive changed from the mp3 to flac becasue with an emu pro soundcard and a reasonable pair of speakers+swoofer there is a noticeable improvement
Foobar2000 rips FLAC (and just about anything else too IIRC. Top music playing device for the windows platform IME.
thanks - just going to give it a whirl - i just downloaded freeRIP and that seems to make a decent enough job of ripping direct to flac with my ears there doesnt seem to be a noticeable difference between the APE and the FLAC (just ripped a sample track and the resepctive file sizes are 28,347kb and 29,726kb for 4min29secs original size 45mb) think i will go with the flac as there seems to be a lot more resources and stuff available generally - the APE is good imo but doesnt look quite as well supported

Bass Strings - How Long Do Yours Last ?
steve-bbb replied to BassMan94's topic in General Discussion
That's much better than meths. The purple meths has a chalky residue, admittedly not much, but the general principle is to leave the windings as clear of debris as possible.
the wipe down definitely has a noticeable effect - i always do it routinely if ive got a gig or audition just to give them a bit of extra life for the rest of the day -
Bass Strings - How Long Do Yours Last ?
steve-bbb replied to BassMan94's topic in General Discussion
Boil them or soak in meths - there are several threads about it if you search. I use flats and so they last for as long as I want them to.
once my strings get a bit old i wipe them down with isopropyl alcohol - seems to have the same effect -
just a quickie - been having a browse and didnt want to resurrect some of the lengthy old threads - the general consensus on them says go for FLAC i always used to think that mp3 at 320 was ok-ish but ive just done a quick audio comparison against APE and it is a no brainer for ape - it is quite impressive imo does anybody have any specific experience of comparisons of ape against flac?? the rip software i have does everything except FLAC - any recommendations for FLAC rippers/players?? i basically want to move away from mp3 format and iTunes which always seems to want to grind my system to a standstill thanks

it certainly caught my eye when i had a GAS attack a year ago - id already had TRB so i knew what i was getting and just went for it pretty much on looks (yes shallow i know) well it does have just one tiny flaw but i prefer to think of it as an "identifying mark" - on the top horn there is a small orange fleck about 1mm long which is actually a mark in the grain of the wood oh sorry forgot to post in the original - stagg hard case thrown in for this price

P neck for sale

bump the measurements were taken from the scanned image not from me holding a ruler or tape against the item btw (which i would argue with my cad/illustrator knowledge is more accurate than eyeballing a measuremnt with a ruler! but nonetheless still open to 'interpretation' as to where you place your start and end points for measuring - if you print the image you should have an accurate 1:1 scale to be able to take measurement from) -
I think some semi-pro bands have ideas far above their station about what they actually do and some of them are very misguided about how good they are and what they sound like.
having done a few function band auditions just lately id say this +1 some have been fine and i would have accepted if they had offered but some were just a bunch of egos riding the 'function band reputation' and even if i had been offered would have politely declined
Steve, you know too much about this
... as leschirons said earlier ... he is probably one of the most discussed bass players on here everything i know - i learn from basschat edit - in fact if any mods are reading this then they really ought to consider setting up a separate subgroup for the HJ threads
