1.
This is just something I don't get about music tuition in colleges - I think, one is supposed to be a good musician, rather than essayist, and spend most of the time on practice. I bet it this sh*t must be driving you crazy, Jake. Take care, L
things dont change - i was at art college in mid 80s - we were taught art and design - but there was still the one hour a week of exactly this sort of thing as well
 2.
"Cultivating and sustaining an 'authentic' image through live performance and media coverage'
my personal take on this would be to discuss 'maintianing and developing artistic consistency' - struggling to find the word im thinking of but sort of 'recognisability' too (is that a word or an americanism? its definitley another thread!)
 3.
your own 'personal' creativity and authenticity is based upon a long sequence of ideas being absorbed, modified and re-used. all ideas are based on earlier ideas, so the idea that there is a inviolate 'authenticity' to any idea is, to a large extent, a myth.
indeed - there are no original ideas just recycling of all the old ones over and over again right up until the point of realisation when the cycle breaks
 4.
but if your personality/spirit/character is created from an assembly of ideas and concepts that have already been 'processed' by others, what does that mean for authenticity ?
it means that unless you appreciate the 'oneness' of everything you are bounding/limiting yourself by your own subjective experience to be beholden to your own personal creativity and authenticity ommmmm
 5.

I don't think that plagiarism necessarily stops a band from being authentic - it's happened throughout the ages in all musical traditions!

even modern musicals!
 6.
As a newbie only been playing a short while I thought I would push the boat out a little (at least for me anyway ) & try & learn Norman Wot-Roy's classic bassline to "Hit me with your rythem stick" Ian Dury & The Blockheads. Iv allways wanted to have a crack at this. I must confess I have used utube & tab to work it out (chastisement accepted ) & I think Iv got the main parts learnt, I think its mainly minor pentatonic scales, & its taken me a couple of days . The problem is playing it at the right speed, @ 105 bpm plus the rythem, I think its a hard bassline to master. Would you agree, or should I be getting this? I'v tried playing along to the song but the intro starts so fast my fingures (left & right) are in knots by the end of the second bar. Just wonderd what is the best way to overcome this Iv tried playing to a metronome at a slower speed, I do find it quite hard to listen to the metronomes anoying click & playing, listening to the song gives me more clues as to whare Im suposed to be if this make sense,is this the right approach? Its not impossible is it? Any sugestions.
nothing wrong with youtube as a learning tool- i would recommend you check out marloweDK he has a tutorial channel and a playalong channel which are both very good and there are also some lovely basschatters who have similar channels - apologies their names escape me at present but im sure someone will update edit - was trying to think earlier of JakeBrownBass
 7.
Yes that's what is worrying me tbh. It's the immediate family of the deceased (her mother, brother and sister) who've asked us to do it, and some of her friends have been in touch saying stuff like "Oh Deb would love that, you guys playing at her wake", but I'm still not convinced. As you said, people with more traditional values are gonna find it all just disrespectful.
agree with some fo the previous posts - if her close family and friends who knew her well say this is what she would have liked then it seems a bit of a no brainer to be honest if the more distant family and friends are having their traditional values upset then im sure the more astute of them will possibly have a change of heart and mind when they see all those who were close to her actually enjoyiong themselves and supporting it appropriately there is al;ways the possibility that there may be that insignificant minority who is professionally shocked but from what youve already said i think they will be seriously outnumbered hope it goes well and send them all our regards from BC

 10.
BTW you spell Zeppelin wrong in your thread title
its ok , its just a little communication breakdown
 11.
I really don't understand the Bonham worshipping at all.
is understandable if you listen to his solos he is technically nothing that special and some of JPJ early basslines if you listen to them in isolation are a bit rough and ready, but... the chemistry between them was quite something else especially in a live setting i was fortunate enough to see them at knebworth 79 - a bizarre combination of some of the sloppiest guitar playing ive ever seen (courtesy of JP being stoned off his tits) backed by what i can honestly say was the most powerful and electric bass/drum performance ive ever seen - JPJ and JB might be nowhere near the top of their respective fields but imo their combined 'live' chemistry was a significant causal factor of the bonham worshipping
 12.
I feel like the odd man out so many times in our rehersals as the rest of the guys are all into led zeppelin and sabbath and well ...i am not ! am i just being paranoid ? i really dont know , i feel like the black dog of the band ! 14.
Actually I like the idea of a J, but not that slope-y body. (Which I why I have a G&L JB-2.)
well in that case you need a TRB - still got the slope but not as steep as the J but certainly not flat like the P across the butt
 15. next year maybe?
 16. a casual glance through the thread would seem to infer that the the J is winning the day hoorah!
