I thought I had done this already but I was trying to put together a 'full album' pdf of the Bruford 'One Of A Kind' and could not find it anywhere on any of my devices. So here it is. This is the full Jeff Berlin bass part for the beautiful 'Forever Until Sunday' from the 1979 Bruford album. Full album PDF to follow. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/forever-until-sunday-bruford/

The full set of transcriptions of the Tony Reeves bass parts to the 1973 Greenslade album, 'Bedside Manners Are Extra'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/bedside-manners-are-extra-full-album-tony-reeves-bass/

Another Tony Reeves chart from the 1973 Greenslade album, 'Bedside Manners Are Extra'. This is a transcription of Tony Reeve's part. It is not complete as the long solo section at the end is not transcribed in detail but presented as a four bar repeated section featuring the core elements. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/chalkhill-greenslade/

I have had 1400 hits on the website in the last two days and 3000 in the last week.

And another (I am writing out the whole album). The track 'Before You Go' from the 1988 Mike Stern album, 'Time In Place'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/before-you-go-mike-stern/

They existed long after I left the band so maybe they went up that way with a later line-up. -

An old photograph has appeared on line. I am far Left. Nothing much has changed there, then. 19881, I believe. -
Another Jeff Andrews part from the same Mike Stern album, this is the title track, 'Time In Place'. A much easier read but watch the 6:4 bars. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/time-in-place-mike-stern/

That was why I wanted to post these transcriptions. I found learning to read using conventional method books very uninspiring. Tedious etudes with no aesthetic relationship to the kinds of music I wanted to play. When I started transcribing, I found loads of charts that would be great for learner readers and, in this day of YouTube and Spotify, the tunes were really easy to access. So I thought, stick them out there and let people use them. 73000 hits to date so they have found a niche!

A full transcription of Jeff Andrews' performance on the tune 'Gossip' from the 1988 Mike Stern album, 'Time In Place'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/gossip-mike-stern/

Great work. Just read through the Camilo chart. Very clearly presented and, as far as I can see, entirely accurate. What more could anyone ask for.

IIRC....there was always time to listen to different people but these were the ones that I rated as I was developing as a player Steve Harris Chris Squire Jaco Jeff Berlin Percy Jones Jimmy Johnson Marc Johnson Dave Holland Mingus (as a composer, though, rather than as a player) Everyone.....(I stopped being a fan boy and started focussing on the music)

I had forgotten about this one but then it came up on my ipod shuffle. The full Jack Bruce bass part to the tune 'Tickets To Waterfalls' from his 1969 album, 'Songs For A Tailor'. Great little chart for a great little song. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/tickets-to-waterfalls-jack-bruce/

Anthony Jackson's bass part for the tune 'Not Yet' from the live album 'Caribe'. Hold onto your hats, guys. This is intense. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/not-yet-michel-camilo/

I had a couple of gigs this weekend, one Jazz, one commercial Pop. Double bass the first gig and electric the second. Both sounded great, the band and me personally. Sometimes I have a faint glimpse that I might know what I am doing.

Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd (G maj? - where's the F come from?)
Bilbo replied to missis sumner's topic in Theory and Technique
Not every note on a piece of paper is loyal to the key signature as tunes move temporarily to different keys as a tune modulates. If the key signature changed every time, the chart would be confusing. Think of a Blues in F. For a start, it is not in F because F is the dominant 7 chord. That aside, on the 5th bar, it goes to Bb which has a flat of Ab which is not in F. A piece being 'in C' broadly means 'mostly'. 😄 -

Having just discovered a PDF tool (that I appear to have had for a decade) that allows me to 'append' pdfs to other pdfs, as an exercise, I have managed to 'append' the transcriptions of Geddy Lees bass parts for the whole of the Rush - Moving Pictures album into one document. You can now play along with the whole album without interruption. How cool is that? https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/moving-pictures-rush-full-album/

Another Percy Jones transcription; the opening sections of the tune 'Vimana' from the 1976 album of the same name from Italian Prog/Jazz Rock band, Nova. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/vimana-nova/

More nonsense, this is Chris Squire's bass and Steve Howe's guitar part for the tune (?) 'Five Per Cent For Nothing' from the 1971 Yes album, 'Fragile'. Impossible. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/five-per-cent-for-nothing-yes/
