1. AM still not back on-line at home (house-move) so can't do anything meaningful until Monday (28th). Looking forward to listening to all the entries.
2. I have a Finale French Bow as per here: http://www.stringemporium.com/carbon-fiber-upright-bass-bows.htm I did a lot of research when I bought it and it was considered by many on-line to be fantastic VFM and compared favourably with wooden bows that were far more expensive. I think it came in at around £200 when import duties were included. I use if rarely as bowing is not something I have got into yet (I want to but not had the time) but it certainly does the job and is easier to use than the bow that came with the bass.
3. I use a K&K Sound Double Big Twin pick up through a Fishman Plat Pro, an AI Clarus and Ten 2Ex cab. The sound works for me and, recording, I try everything; mic, pick-up with pre-amp, with amp. di etc and the one thing I have learned is that all the kit in the world won't make your bass sound like it doesn't!! An Antoni 1/2 size isn't EVER going to sound like John Patitucci's Thomas Martin bass or Charlie Haden's Vuillaume. If you are not cutting through the mix, it may be that the sound you have is not as rich as it needs to be? Try another mic a little further away from the bass to put some 'air' in your sound. With a DI, close mic and ambient mic, you will get what you are playing. If that doesn't work go back to the sound itself.
4. Saw him at Port Vale 1981. One of the greats. Love his use of harmony. Canadian Rock, err, rocks!
5. Bump for youtube link. Enjoy!
6. It's personal. The one finger per fret is very common but a relatively new innovation and three fingers were used by many of the greats in the past on some of the most important bass recordings of all time. Double bass players mostly use three fingers (a small number use four). After 33 years of playing, I don't think it matters as much as you think. Most players I know have muchmore technique than they know how to use so the discussion is academic. It is the difference between playing to play great music and playing to impress people at parties. The miniscule differences it makes in the overall delivery of the music is too nuanced for most people to care. Interestingly, I have occasionally tried to play with one finger, as an exercise. YOu woudl be surprised how much you can execute with just one finger on your left hand. Django Reinhardt had only two usable fingers in his left hand and defined a genre of guitar players! Necessity is the mother of invention.
7. That's what I use Spotify for. Recent old school searches inc Mahogany Rush, Gamma (!), Passport and Soft Machine!

13. I had a phone whose ring tone you could programme so I typed in Teen Town
14. Just listening to it again to see whether it has any merits I previously missed. Sadly, I still don't get any real sense of why. Lot's of stuff but no context. A jam on nothing in particular.
15.
(Note to self: Buy dog...)
You'll need at least three.
16. I don't really do back-beats, guys. I am sure that is why I keep losing out
17. PS I apologise for my intonation on the last chord. It is rough as a******es but I wasn't going to do it again. PPS I wrote it and recorded it in less than 30 minutes. I am a bad man
