I like this. A sweet little bass line from John Giblin from the 1981 Phil Collins album 'Face Value'. The tune is called 'I'm Not Moving' and is only about 2:30 long. The bass line is absolutely perfect for the song and is full of humour. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/im-not-moving-phil-collins/

Today we have the Dave Myles bass part for Max Webster's 'Paradise Skies'. Great Rock bass, Great sound, simple but very effective. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/paradise-skies-max-webster/

I didn't actually listen to it as I knew the part already 🤣

The next one is a bit of a cheat. The bass part for 'In The Air Tonight' doesn't start until the drum break and is actually only four bars long, repeating into the fade. I love how a simple thing can be so effective and iconic. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/in-the-air-tonight-phil-collins/

I knocked out a couple of John Giblin transcriptions last night. The first is from the 1981 Phil Collins album 'Face Value' and the tune is 'Thunder And Lightning'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/thunder-and-lightning-phil-collins/

I am a member of a Wal owners Facebook group. Some of the clips on there are 'kin dreadful. I am not sure what a Wal sounds like. I don't sound like Percy Jones, he don't sound like Geddy Lee and so on. I am not convinced that a brand of bass can be guessed beyond the idea that a brand is popular at some point or in some genre. Then it's chance. Scott Devine has a load of P and J basses that are not Fenders and all sound like Fenders. It's all educated guess work at best.

This just appeared on Facebook. A session I did over 30 years ago. -
Today's transcription is Chuck Rainey's part from the title track of the 1976 Steely Dan album, 'The Royal Scam'. Easy read. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/thr-royal-scam-steely-dan/

Just gone over 10,000 hits on here. Happy days. (and, yes, I know that ChrisDev's page is fast approaching 50,000 hits )

This one is for old time's sake. From one of the greatest Rock albums of all time, 'Deep Purple In Rock', Roger Glover's monster bass part for the track 'Bloodsucker'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/bloodsucker-deep-purple/

I love that the Basschat filth filter changed D I C K Nolan to Richard.

Arguably the easiest read on here; Richard Nolan's bass part for the tune 'You'll Never Go To Heaven' by It Bites - easier even that Steve Dawson's 'Dallas 1 P.M.' line. I have put this up here because, at less than 60 bpm, with the exclusion of about three bars, the whole chart is pretty much readable after about one reading lesson. I always found it encouraging to be able to read something 'real' as opposed to the tedious etudes that you have to work through when you are studying. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/youll-never-go-to-heaven-it-bites/

Just read through your website, Chris, and noted that, without any discussion, we have just one duplication, Manos De Piedra by Jeff Berlin (you transcribed A Longer April whereas I just did April). What are the chances of that?

Short one today. The core bass part for Dave Holland's recording of Steve COleman''s tune 'Wights Waits For Weights. It is eight bars long and is in 3:4 although the last bar is 4:4. When reading this remember to be aware of when the notes end as well as when they begin. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/wights-waits-for-weights-dave-holland-quintet/

Now THAT is a coincidence. I met Paul Gray once too. He produced this: I never knew Paul Gray played with UFO.

I have just been asked to transcrbe this but won't, now that I have seen this. Many thanks, my friend. You have saved me a few hours work.

I never saw them or had any of their recordings. I did, however, meet PW briefly. Very briefly. I was at Rockfield studios and packing up to leave. The next band booked in were Waysted. As we were getting ready to vacate the accommodation, PW walked in, said 'hi: and then collapsed face down on the living room floor.

Fodera Anthony Jackson Presentation 6 string to keep me interested until my Wal 6 string fretless was delivered. 2 x Markbass Jeff Berlin combos (no tweeters). Or an Alembic II 5 string. Or even a Cort Rhythmic 5 string. -

Latest transcription is a request from a Talkbass member. This is Scott Sutherland's bass part from the tune 'Backup Plan' from the 2009 Tommy Castro album 'Hard Believer'. It's essentially a blues shuffle and not too difficult a read.. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/backup-plan-tommy-castro/

I have a Harley Benton HBO - 850 acoustic bass that I use when I practice reading (one less plug required) and I have grown to really enjoy playing it. It costs £115. I have not gigged it or played it with anyone else so can't comment beyond this.

I thought I had attached it but I hadn't. It should work now.

Me neither. Will have a look at it later.
