1. That looks purdy
2.
Rebel practice random acts of kindness! :-) https://soundcloud.c...cts-of-kindness
I like the Wigan-rap (as you called it!) in this one. Really suits the piece. I'd say you need to pull forward the vocals and also the politician's speech so they sit more at the forefront of the mix.
Ok, not entered before, but why not, only beacuse it's a real new tune http://soundcloud.co...ng-from-nothing Si
Another nice, chilled-out tune!
3.
That is a quality piece , it has excitement all the way through it , mine has turned out a little different than I expected , but much as I feared , darn that mix competition !!!! talking of mixing , that is my next job , the vocal is half decent now that I have done a bit of collaboration
Cheers When I uploaded it I saw that it's my first in 5 months.Must do more...
4.
What? The Lass from X-Men? Painted all blue? Surely not?
We'd want a video not a soundcloud file if that's the case
5.
I like it You've used those movie clips excellently. Enjoyed it so much I listened 3 times in a row
Thanks I had much fun making it and I do love my movie dialogue! I'll be buying more for future tracks and of course my pic is on its way... The chord progression for mine is Cminor, Gminor, Bbminor, F#minor. There's a great chart in Rikky Rooksby's How to Write Songs on Guitar (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0879306114) that shows you which chords go well together. It helps shortcut some theory (which you should learn, it's great once you work these things out!). I think my track gets a bit busy. There are a couple of sections where I have drums, bass, two rhythm guitars, one lead guitar, a synth, and half an orchestra (several violin, cellos, horns sections). I think the compression on it all is a bit heavy-handed but that's my weakest area. I did however learn how to send a signal from the bass track to the synth track to control a compressor. It meant that whenever hte bass plays the volume on the main synth line drops to make room for it. It gives the bass a bit more punch. I used the same thing to get the dialogue to dip the volume of the strings too. Quite a handy tool but I'm still learning about it.
6. I think mine's done now: http://soundcloud.com/mornats/when-things-come-out-at-night
7. Love the variety of sounds here! I'm a big fan of Billy Gould's sound from Faith No More. It just has that certain growl that I always associate with him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-WvTieSyEI
8.
Is it me or are there too many knobs on that bass?
lol!
9. Try popping them into C:\Program Files\VstPlugins (or C:\Program Files (x86)\VstPlugins if they're 32 bit plugins) (assuming you're on the 64 bit version of Windows - it's one of those places anyhow!) You may have to just extract them to anywhere using WinRar then copy them over into the right folder. Hopefully some of this helps...
10.
I'm a bit dissapointed not to see the Horn of Gondor on that list , but maybe Bilbo has that put away somewhere
Haha! Seriously though, it has horns.
11. 12. Well my mic didn't arrive at PMT so I've gone for some more movie dialogue samples which I think work. It needs a few more listens to see what needs tweaked but I like it so far.
13. Nice one, congrats! I've entered all their competitions so far but not won yet. You definitely need to put pics, sound samples and vids up.
14. You know, this is what it's all about. We've recruited one more member into the addictive world of recording and she debuts with a great track. I hope you feel encouraged to do more!
15. All quite highly regarded and going cheap: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/?item_id=2604 and http://www.studiodevil.com/products/virtual_bass_amp_pro/ I got the Ampeg SVX in the same deal last year and it's fairly good although lately I've preferred a straight DI into my interface with some compression and EQ.
16. Sorry for spamming this but Spacechick's track reminded me of Paul Oakenfold's Urban Soundtracks that I used to listen to on long drives back from Newcastle. They're popular novels that he put a soundtrack onto. I found one online: http://www.mixcloud.com/divineandrogyne/paul-oakenfold-dracula-urban-soundtracks-21/
17. In the past I've used some royalty-free movie dialogue clips that I bought from Loopmasters that work well. Have a listen to some of the dialogue in these to see how the phrasing/voicing/inflections/whatever-it-is works as it all adds some interest to the spoken dialoge: http://soundcloud.com/mornats/vampires and http://soundcloud.com/mornats/mystery-and-magic
18. A big up for having a go! I've popped some comments on there but I think your singing is coming on nicely. I think it will get better with practice as I noticed some improvements as the song went on. I think it outshines the spoken word parts (as a concept, I do like spoken word and will most likely go down this route myself). I say keep at it! I'm going to go with some effects on my voice. I have this: http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/effects/driver/ which delivers some nice distortion. Pretty sure I got it for free as part of a launch promotion for it though...
19.
I'm just entering a friendly competition with other bassists and have no choice but to do an instrumental or have an attempt to relay my concept using my incredible substandard voice!
Ditto! But hey, you never know.. with a little practice...
20. Wow that's "honest" feedback! If I ever hear feedback like that it makes me more determined to really polish my work to shut them up My basslines in a lot of my tracks tend to be fiddly or busy as I like to try and push myself. I do cheat and will record 50 takes (it's really that many, sometimes more, for some of them) of a 4 bar loop then copy it to other sections :0 I'm trying more and more to do basslines in an entire take now though as the former method means I never get a chance to learn them as I change them with each take.
21. Mine's recorded and I'm almost happy with the mix and arrangement. I've got plenty of time so I'll sit on it a bit, listen with fresh ears a few times and do some more tweaking. I've got a name now: "When Things Come Out at Night in the Mountains". Just to give you a feel for the theme. I'm picking up my new mic - a vocal mic!! at the weekend so may try some spoken word/vocal effects on it. If not, I'll buy this and see if anything fits: http://www.loopmasters.com/product/details/1780/Movie-Dialogue-Vol-6.
22. I don't normally like Ibanez's but Hubba-Hubba
23.
From the descriptive blurb it's... "Full-moon in the Moon Valley. Volcanoes Licancabur and Juriques, west of San Pedro de Atacama, Chile in the Cordillera de la Sal, in the Atacama desert of Chile." Link to original image here: http://tinyurl.com/kjw98y7
Well it's the same mountain range (kinda) anyway
One of mine was 6 minutes and I didn't even realize there was a time limit until I actually read the first post of next months thread properly, we're quite a laid back lot, I'd say you're fine.
I managed to cut it down to 4:58! All the better for it too. Oh and welcome to the competition Spacechick, hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
24. By the way, in this month's photo, is that Mount Mistie in Colco Canyon, Peru?
25. It'll be nice to see this brought back to its former glory.
