Final bump! (see first post)
No it's not... -
We'll have to share usernames there cos epoints mean more sounds
Indeed! Mine is, unsurprisingly, Mornats Oh, and I've now voted after listening to all the tracks. Superb effort everyone, good luck!
Esoundz had it on Black Friday Special for just under $50 plus an extra Sampletank library. Compared to $150 seemed a pretty good deal having had the cut down version for a while. I think IK Multimedia had the same deal running (it is theirs after all) excluding the Sampletank library. 4200 sounds including coughs & scraps for complete authenticity Esoundz.com tend to offer some pretty good extras on these deals.
I got that too, the instruments sounds rather lovely. I can't wait to try them out.
I will send you a link to my web page privately and you can check it out you may find it interesting. Anyway deffo going now, night!
I'm very interested in hearing more about this too. Would you be able to send your link over to me too? I remember building a website for a spiritual healer in the early 2000's and the guy came across as extremely genuine and also slightly puzzled himself as to how it worked.

My guitarist is left handed and whenever we swap instruments (jsut to mess around) we both find it easier to play them upside down rather than switch from left or right handed. Somehow it's easier for both of us to remap the order of the strings.

To be honest, I've kept forgetting that a custom bass is up for grabs this month, I've been more enthralled in the quality of the recordings, the great feedback and the general basschatty banter and advice that has gone on.
Ah well that depends on which one you played I seem to remember us talking about the ones on the 4 string dark green one? In which case yes they are GHS Brite flats. I got them of ebay: Paul Comerford http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4602d0cf8d The ones on the 5 string Antiga were Rotosound 77 Jazz Flats Hope that helps A
Cheers mate, yep it was definitely the 4 string, I wouldn't have tried a 5 string -

APA, could you remind me which strings were on one of your fretlesses that I tried? Were they GHS ground wounds? i.e. these: http://www.ghsstrings.com/strings/bass/brite-flats-1 and do you know of anywhere that will sell them cheap? Ta! I want to put some on my Overwater as they were really nice to play (or that could have been your bass, either way I wanna give them a go!) -

If you happen to get bored of it in the meantime though... I'm only round the corner! Definitely beats all the Fender jazz's I've played which would actually put it at number 1 in all of the basses I've played. -
You should'nt have worried did you see the tatty old Sandberg that Pinball bought with him Dont know why he bothered
Haha! That Sandburg was my favourite instrument to play that day. But I wonder, did the tattiness help? -
I've been uploading 320kb/s MP3s to Soundcloud. I'll give the uncompressed WAV file format a go I think. It'll be interesting to hear the quality difference. Skol, I'd definitely favour keeping the dynamics over compressing for loudness. I think I'm starting to fall more towards the latter unfortunately so need to watch the presets I'm using and use my ears more. There's a lot going on with the compressors in my recent tracks that I don't like. It's a tricky thing to become anywhere near competent at I have to say.

Now these look interesting... http://www.dv247.com/guitars/vox-amphones-bass-guitar-monitoring-headpones--101719 I've had trouble with the headphone out feature of any amp I've tried - the bass either loses all the low end or just farts. Would be interesting to see if these can pump out a decent punchy bass with some low-end. I've not tried their amplug things so I'm not sure if these will just be a gimmick or if they'll be useful. Anyone heard anything good or bad about them? I can't find any reviews about the bass one online just yet.

Much thanks for organising this, it was good to see everyone and have a play on some fantastic basses. Apa's bitsa's were superb as were Pinball's Sandbergs - in particular the trashed one (reliced or whatever they call a 900 euro bodge job lol). -
They arent on the link you posted, any chance of letting me know what they are and where i can get a pair Cheers Thanks for the info guys!
Yeah sorry, I had a fullstop at the end: http://www.thomann.de/gb/superlux_hd662_f.htm - Superlux 662f headphones.
-
Can anyone recommend a pair that I dont need to re-morgage to buy, but do the job well?
I use these http://www.thomann.de/gb/superlux_hd662_f.htm They're dirt cheap, and the company makes the parts for AKG (you'll notice these look almost identical to a pair of AKGs). They sound strikingly similar to my M-Audio BX5a monitors so work perfectly for me. Top quality and you simply can not argue with the price. Worth a punt for £27.
It's Black, very Black, the Blackest Black you've ever seen...nice white pearloid scratchplate mind....!
Dang, that's still nice that! Wouldn't mind a play on it! I'll be bringing both my Bass Collections (with a mind to sell if anyone's interested) and if I have room, also my Tanglewater. I'll have my Ashdown 220 Touring amp too if there's space. -
Haha yeah totally. I listen to my own tracks constantly to try and iron out every last rogue frequency. I really should spend more time recording and playing than tweaking. It's all about getting the track down isn't it after all?

Heh, that last post submitted itself before I'd finished it! I use my BX5as whenever I think I can get away with volume (I share a house with my bro and his misses and it's link detached which is a godsend). I also use a pair of Superlux heaphones which have a very similar response to my BX5as. I'll use my Tannoys as well to hear a hi-fi mix. I'll also use a pair of £18 AKG headphones on my Galaxy S2 (I used to use an iphone before I got that) and will occasionally listen in the car too. Every single speaker shows up something different.
I have an old pair of Tannoys. Great hi-fi speakers but I stopped using them for mixing as they played merry hell with the low end (I found it v. difficult to get an accurate sound out of them). I now use just headphones and test my mixes out on a variety of different systems: hi-fi, car, iPod, etc. Not ideal at all but it's what I'm stuck with for the time being.
I should have said that I don't mix on my Tannoys, I've got a pair of M-Audio BX5a speakers too. They lack low end output being little 5 inchers so it's hard to get it right.
Im liking the beat to this one good work

My background is more electronic than acoustic, and this definitely pushes the right buttons for me! Now that you mention I can hear shades of Leftfield in it - particularly in the drum work - but it certainly has an identity of its own. My younger, more energetic self would have gone mental to this on the dancefloor Very well produced too. The mix nicely fills the stereo spread across my headphones and everything sounds crisp and clear - good work. I notice you've used the T-Racks mastering tools - been meaning to play with those myself. Have downloaded the demo but yet to use it. This gives me an incentive! Anyway, really like it. Again, the variety of styles cropping up in this challenge is just great!
Thanks guys, I really enjoyed making this one. It's funny that you say the drums remind you of Leftfield as I used a "leftfield" preset on the drum mix in EZDrummer I think the mix sounds fairly muddy. On my Tannoy hi-fi speakers (E11s) the fingerstyle bass sounds very boomy whilst on small headphones I can hear a nice bit of bit to it so I think there's something going on in the lower freqs that's booming around a fair bit. All part of learning though! T-racks is pretty decent. I like the compressors but I find the EQ options a little limited, or more to the point, I don't know how to use them properly and need more flexibility to fix badly recorded parts! I got T-racks Standard for $30 or so so I'm not complaining.

I was asking about york5stringer's 4 string jazz sorry! I can't get along with 5 strings unfortunately.
