Hey Basschatters! I recently uploaded another review video to my channel, this time looking at the new Darkglass DG210A combo. I was honestly pleasantly surprised by this unit in terms of its tone and functionality, hence the 'not just for metal' thumbnail Like all DG stuff they aren't cheap, but I think they are value for money when compared to similar amps in the marketplace. Have a watch and let me know what you think! Thanks Craig

Hey thanks for watching! I suspect it’s a YT audio thing as I only did minimal post production on the bass sounds.

Hey there! I was lucky enough to spend a few weeks with some units from the new Venture series from Ampeg and make a video about them. Stay tuned for some more gear review in the coming weeks!

Yeah the F Bass is such a great workhorse, it records so well. That middle section is my favourite tool 🙂

Thanks! I thinking cutting the rhythm section love really helped to keep things tight, and not necessarily in a metronomic way but more of a pocket way. Glad you dig it!

No worries, appreciate your honesty!

The Janek Gwizdala Video Series

Thanks man glad you enjoyed them! Was really cool jamming and hanging with the guy, such a great musician. -
Hey guys, As some of you may know I've started my own teaching website since moving down under called www.basslessonsmelbourne.com with a view to raising my profile as a teacher and ultimately attracting more students. A sidechain of this has been interviewing local players to get their views on a wide array of bass and music related topics in the hope that player watching it can maybe learn from their advice (or mistakes!). Recently I was super lucky to have Janek Gwizdala agree to swing by while he was in town to do and interview and a bit of a performance. He was super easy to hang with, very giving of his time and just so enthusiastic about music and life (and tennis ) I hope you enjoy what I managed to capture. Solo performance: Our Jam The Interview Thanks!

Hey guys I've recently undertaken the challenge of trying to post a new, original bass video every day for as long as possible. I'm doing this through my instagram account: https://www.instagra...ssonsmelbourne/ Anyways, check it out and give it a like or a follow if you fancy a daily dose of bassness. Thanks for your time! Craig

Check out these incredible transcriptions from Stevie Glasgow featuring pretty much all of AJs work on Naughty Goldmine http://www.stevieglasgow.com/transcriptions_e.html
I suspect once you get to a moderate quality level, the preamp matters less than the player. The tonal differences are there between preamps, but nothing that couldn't be replicated by EQ or software to me. Scott Devine has an expensive BAE preamp he's acquired recently, and a Vanderkley Aurora head before that, but before that he just had a good old Markbass head. He sounds pretty much brilliant no matter what he's recording through. Creativity and practice trump gear, I think.
^^^^^ THIS! ^^^^

Yeah the more I listen the more the REDDI is sticking out as my favourite. I will investigate the clipping issue, but I haven't had any other reports and seems strange that would occur as they are all mono signals converted to stereo so should be equal in both channels. Thanks!
-
Hey Mykesbass, thanks for checking it out, glad you dig the vibe. You're right the differences are pretty small and if you don't have decent headphones are speakers it can be hard to spot any differences at all! It's really interesting to see what you get for your money, and also how far you can go with just consumer level gear too.

Hey guys, I was lucky enough recently to get my hands on a bunch of top class DI boxes including: Tonecraft 363 Tube DI (!!) REDDI Avalon U5 TAB Funkenwerk V71 DI Rupert Neve DI So I decided to do a bit of a comparison test of all these boxes alongside my own humble equipment; a Markbass Big Bang and a Mindprint Envoice Channel strip. I play a fingerstyle groove and a slap groove through each unit to give you an idea of how the respond to transients, long notes etc; The most startling thing I found was actually how well my 'prosumer' units stood up to the big boys, not a million miles away to be honest. Upon closer inspection, the dedicated units are more detailed and solid in the fundamentals though, so they do justify there price tag...mostly I would be more than happy to take any of the boxes to a session as they all do their job extremely well, just with slightly different flavours and features. All audio files are available for download from http://www.basslessonsmelbourne.com so you can listen to them in your preferred environment. Which one is your favourite??? [media\]
