Dare we start a 'who's fae scotland?' thread?? c

I recently did nine months on royal caribbean cruiselines, in the caribbean no less! I was on the 2 largest cruise ships in the world, the freedom and liberty of the seas. It's true that your sight reading does have to be pretty good, mine was average but quickly got better, and you need to be pretty well versed in lots of different styles. Here are a few points to consider: You will be sharing a cabin - I shared with the drummer, luckily we got on like a house on fire and we're still great friends The cabins are tiny and you will be sleeping in bunk beds.... The food is average canteen food there are strict uniform and passenger/crew 'interaction' rules You will be playing the same shows every night. For at least 6 months....! Good stuff: You get to meet and play with some fantastic people You do get a lot of time to yourself to practice and go sightsee the various ports Great parties!! Dancers.....singers..... Pay should be around $1800 a month Tax free....i think!! Nothin better for your chops than playing in a pro setup night after night Gettin paid to play bass halfway round the world and still gettin time to work on your tan ;-) Best of luck, I highly recommend it!!! He actually did a really good album just a coupla years back called 'Standards' with Patrice Rushen on piano and Ndugu Chancler on kit. Stanley plays upright on the album with each tune being recorded live to two track tape! Very vibey and come great trio playing.

Lovin the jeff beck version there, mainly for the beastin bass vibe and vinnie going nuts for the whole track!!! heh

Cheers guys! I will certainly be posting soundclips as soon as the demo's done, I could possibly fire up some very rough bass and drum mp3's just now to let you hear if anyone's interested...? c

Slightly off topic, but does this now mean that victa is endorsing Hartke and not Ampeg anymore? c

Hi Alan, I think some breaks are a great idea, especially if they are filled with someone talking about bass! Maybe have a kind of sit downy Q&A with yourself or Mr May, or maybe something stupid like a bass only relate pub quiz? c
-
You should've gotten a quarter of a 15 inch speaker in the corner of each cab so that when you stick them all together you get a bonus speaker! haha, nice rig btw! c

I'm up for this, last 2 weeks in April look good to me... Im sure some kinda car pooling could be organised from up here to Moffat once we firm up dates and numbers etc;. c

Glasgow/central scotland bass bash is a great idea. Let's do it. Where should we start a thread? Is there any way of doing a search on folk who live up here and send them invites.....moderators?? c PS - I'm gonna pop round real soon for some coffee, random bass chat and maybe a spank of the old 9 stringer!!

Ah cheers ped, I spent a while stumbling around trying to figure how to do that, here are the youtube links, dunno if that would help? bass sweeping Bass chords Cheers! craig -
Hey guys and gals, Just uploaded a coupla videos featuring some techniques I've been working on recently. The first is a technique I picked up off someone who studied with Kai Eckhardt for a bit, it looks complicated but once you get it under your fingers it makes sense. The second is a technique I came up with to 'sweep' some basic arpeggios on the bass, note the right hand technique: Feel free to ask me any questions about these videos. It should be noted that I only use this kinda stuff maybe 1% of the time on gigs!!! Hope you like em, craig

I use the MXR di+ thingy and it rocks, it will do exactly what you're looking for, fattening out the sound. The 'colour' switch on it just sweetens everything. Very handy little unit and I love the fuzz I get from it too. I also use a summit audio td-100 half valve preamp/di which is buttery clean :-) c
