Larry Graham is playing in London in 3 weeks time.

I went last year as well it is an amazing show! The guy is 60 odd and he plays for two hours solid. Non stop good time groove and entertainment from a man who is a true legend of the bass. I urge as many of you to go and see it just to witness how musical the man is. -
Thanks Ivok80! Some of the early Hubbard stuff is awesome, so I appreciate the comparison! Just listening to your album just now, very cool. Great clean production, tight ass playing and some classic bass tones man! What gear did you use? Also, So much oil is one of my fave TOP tunes You can check us out on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pickpocket/228602740484756 C

Cool thread guys! Here is my bands EP, with one original tune (penned by yours truly) and I also mixed and mastered the thing. We're all pretty proud of how it turned out, but would appreciate any feedback you guys may have as we have still to get round to pressing hard copies. http://soundcloud.com/pickpocket-1/sets/pickpocket-the-stolen Hope you like it! Cheers C

Hey guys, Just wanted to give you a heads up to my bands debut EP which you can listen to here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pickpocket/228602740484756 It's instrumental funk/jazz. But in a good way! Bass was Lakland DJ5 into Avalon U5. All feedback welcome! C

Snarky Puppy are immense! I've been digging them for a few months now, and I just received delivery of their CD/DVD the other week. The more you listen to it the more you get out of it, which I love! The fact that there are so many musicians but it doesn't sound like it is testament to their composition and arranging skills I reckon. I also love the fact that they don't fall into cliched funk riffs and always take the music somewhere interesting. In my opinion they are an incredibly cohesive unit with excellent support playing and subtleties that come from a deep understanding of music and performance. C

The first time I heard Charlie Hunter I said to myself 'wow that's a really cool tune and a smoking band!' At the time I had no idea who charlie hunter was or what he was about! I think that is testament to the man's composition and musicality, his music surpasses the 'gimmicky' fact that he plays bass and guitar at same time etc and stands on it's own merits.

New Orleans Funk - anyone know any of these bands?
stonecoldbass replied to molan's topic in General Discussion
Go to that gig!!! Lettuce are an outrageously good band and really should be more widely appreciated than they are! I went to see them play in New York on a ferry boat that went up the Hudson and round the statue of Liberty, one of the best gigs (and nights!) of my life. Soulive are a v cool organ trio with some of the guys from Lettuce and Nigel Hall is a name in his own right I think, but I know him as the guy that sings some stuff for lettuce. Also, I recently went to see the 'Funky Meters' down here in Melbourne with none other than Mr. Porter Jnr on bass, it's defo worth going to check out one of Nawlins masters at work! Have a great trip man, I'm jealous!! Craig -
Hey, Now that I'm living in Australia for a year I'm being more active on the Ozbass forum. Whilst perusing this morning i noticed this post: http://www.ozbassforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5823 And thought I should give Andy a heads up that he's picking up fans down here! Maybe you could send the guy a message and put him out his misery? C

Nakes Strings I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet! I got 3x 5 string sets shipped to Oz for $35 US all inclusive! They're pretty hard to beat... -
Why should you get unlimited, on demand, hi quality streaming music? What right do you have to be upset by any limitations put on this usage!? i think we forget how fortunate we are to be able to access such a vast array of music at our fingertips. I think most people would agree that they couldn't believe spotify when it first came out, nevermind that it was free! I pay the £10 a month gladly, I set up my account in the UK but now live in Australia. I think of it as similar to a venue paying a 'PRS' licence or something similar, spread out between all the artists it isn't much but it's a fair price to pay for the privilege of enjoying an artists work. You really can't complain about this, and for those of you who are bitter about it, grow up. If you are in any way a 'musician' you should be supporting the industry you love and are a part of.

Nice one! I think a friend of mine sent me links to this site to download Lettuce live at the Brooklyn Bowl. Outstanding band!!

Hey Andy, Hats off to you mate! I know how difficult it is to compose on bass and try to stay away from cliches or passages that are solely technique. I think you manage to pull it off and I really dig the harder prog rock edge you take with a lot of things where the riff is the main thing. For me, heavy riffs are as good as and equal to ur typical funk grooves. I like your variation in tone as well, often the chorus bass thing can sound 80's but you manage to keep it fresh sounding. Keep it up mate, I really think you would make the perfect sideman for someone like vai or in a band like mudvayne/meshuggah Cheers! Craig

Poogie Bell greatness.. this track is something else..
stonecoldbass replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
We seem to be on the same wavelength these days mate! I really dig Poogie Bell, his playing on Baduizm Live is sheer class. I'm doing a cover of Love Vibe in my current band PS I saw poogie bell band play at the Blue Note in NYC and at Manchester Bass day, both gigs were fantastic lessons in groove!! -
Victor Bailey and CO.. just amazing on this album..
stonecoldbass replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
I agree mate! Low Blow is one of the best 'bass albums' released, because it has it all: awesome grooves, great composition, fantastic bass solos and just a general cohesiveness that has kept me going back to this album time after time. In some interviews I've read VB can come across as somewhat arrogant IMO, but sometimes the written word can be deceiving. I actually covered Graham Cracker from this album for my Honours recital at university, if I can upload it I'll link it here. I was disappointed is his other album That's Right, nowhere near as solid as Low Blow, it lacks depth and conviction I feel. Good topic!!
