1. Why has the bridge been installed diagonally? For intonation purposes?

Real gone

I bought one of these in the exact same colour new at Route 66 in Hanley in December 1991 and always regretted selling it. Whereabouts in the northwest are you based?
3. I might also consider a fretted, depending on the colour and condition.
4. Thanks! I'd consider a trade for a pre-EB fretless StingRay, provided it's all original.
5. Just to let you all know, I've put my pre-EB fretted and fretless Sabres up for sale: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/196965-fretted-and-fretless-pre-eb-mm-sabres-for-sale-feeler/
6. After much deliberation, I've decided – tentatively – to put my pre-Ernie Ball Music Man Sabres up for sale. I must stress that, at this stage, this is purely a feeler. However, if someone is willing to pay the asking price, I'll most likely sell. I'm in no rush, so only serious offers will be considered. The first is a rare, all-original factory rosewood fretless model from 1979 (MM switched to ebony fretboards on fretless models in late 1979/early 1980). Many people are unaware of the availability of the fretless option on Sabres, but early catalogues prove it. Either way, this one is genuine, and there's still plenty of life left in the fretboard, which I had levelled after I purchased the bass. Since then, it's been strung with GHS Pressurewounds, which haven't left any marks. The second Sabre is an all-original fretted rosewood example from 1980. Fretted rosewood was not offered as an option until late 1979/early 1980, making pre-EB MMs with this feature significantly rarer than maple examples. I'm looking for €2000 for the fretless and €1900 euros for the fretted ex. shipping In principle, the basses do not include cases, but I can arrange this at a cost if necessary. I'm based in Amsterdam, but my parents live in England and visit the Netherlands on a regular basis. Consequently, I could arrange for them to transport the basses to England for a UK-based buyer. They'll be over here again next month. Just one photo for now: http://imageshack.us.../29/sabres.jpg/ I'll upload some more later. In the meantime, feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Regards, Kees
7. It is indeed. It's still at Overwater in Carlisle, so if you're interested the best thing would be to give Laurence Blackadder a call on 01228 590591. If you have any questions in the meantime, let me know. Cheers, Kees
8. I own a 2010 example in sunburst and it's one of the most stable instruments I've ever owned. It doesn't have the depth or warmth of my '74 Jazz, but I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a decent '70s Jazz bass at an affordable price.
9. Never seen a left-handed Original Series before. Impressive! Any more Original Series owners out there (particularly of five-string examples)?
10. I had an identical example in red. The models from this era (with the woven graphite necks) are great -- really reliable.
11. Nice example. My favourite Overwater body shape.
12. I've decided to part with my custom Overwater Progress III Deluxe six-string, which I had built in 2006, mainly due to injury, and also the fact that the band I used it in folded in 2009. Since then, it's spent most of its time in the case. For those couple of years of use, though, it served me extremely well. The B-string is very tight, thanks to the 35" scale, and is still sufficiently defined when dropped to A with the Hipshot. Overall, the bass is in very good condition, with just a few dings and a couple of small lacquer cracks on the body. The neck, however, is still in A1 condition. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or contact "]Laurence directly; whichever you prefer. Bearing in mind that a new equivalent would cost the better part of GBP 4000, this is a lot of bass for 1600 quid. 13. Sweet! I own two of these babies. Good luck with the sale.
14. This bass is now back on sale at Overwater in Carlisle at GBP 1600. The sale fell through due to a problem on the buyer's side.

SOLD

I also own a four-bolt '74 Jazz.
16. Wow! This looks quite amazing.

The things people do to perfectly good instruments... What colour did you choose in the end. Any pics?
Bought this bass from fellow Basschatter Chris (Me An My Bass). 13092011568 by markmojo, on Flickr He had been led to believe by a previous owner that this orange peel satin black finish was the remnents of the original factory finish. To his credit, when Chris was informed that the bass originally left the factory in a beautiful trans blue burst finish, he couldn't be more apologetic. A deal was struck and now the work of refinishing the bass begins. 21092011589 by markmojo, on Flickr 21092011591 by markmojo, on Flickr No sign of any of the original finish exists in the cavities. I'm hoping that, being that this was a trans finish bass, a nicely grained piece of wood lies beneath that awful paint job. If so, I may go for a natural finish....if not, who knows how it'll look when it's finished
18. Does anyone else out there own one?
19. Black blocks don't bother me so much; it's the fugly smaller logo on late-'70s Fenders I really disapprove of. Thank God they're using the larger late-'60s/early-to-mid-'70s logo on the new Fenders posted in this thread ;-)
20. I had one of these in red with closed pickup covers. It was an '87. They're reliable and incredibly stable. Good luck with the sale!
21. Wow! I had an '87 Passion with woven graphite neck that served me well for years, but this is a different animal altogether -- and it's black! What a rarity. If I had the cash for this one and the fretless, I'd be severely tempted, but I'm saving for a new custom build at the moment. Good luck with the sale!
22. I've always had the same with Sabres. They're beautiful-looking instruments that hold a certain mystique for me, being the 'underdog' compared to the StingRay. Consequently, I just had to have one, then two... Whilst initially perhaps not as easy to use as the Stingray, when you get the hang of using the extra features on the Sabre, I think it has more.
I was wondering if anyone round here had some HD shots af the MM sabre basses. I love these things, and i just want to spend hours looking at them, but as i have no access to one, i would settle for some photos. Ive had a good look im the pre-eb mm thread, but i want more HD dammit! That is all.....
