BTW, they could be a sloppy bunch at Music Man back in the day. Consequently, basses were sometimes assembled before the body and/or neck had properly dried. This can make them seem like the neck has been glued in place (I had this with my '80 fretted Sabre, which, incidentally, has only a neck stamp). Either way, the neck needs to be taken off very carefully; you will often see lacquer chips around the neck pocket on pre-EBs that have been caused by this.

Have you ever taken the neck off? Not all of them have date stamps on the body and neck, and some don't have any at all, but if they're there they'll confirm it. It looks like it's most probably a '79, though, and the vast majority of the pre-EB Sabres seem to be from that year. Later, there were many problems with the truss rods due to suspected sabotaged tooling, as well as issues with the lacquer, sometimes caused by the padding in the cases.
The serial n° is C00185X so according to musicmanbas.org, I could say mine is a 79, but not sure...
I think the white one looks more like it belongs on the bass.

I've collected quite a lot of Sabre photos over the past couple of years. Not HD, unfortunately, but there's some interesting stuff in there like an '80 ebony fretless (which some idiot had fret lines put on). If you're interested, you're welcome to them. I could Dropbox them to you. Cheers, Kees

Does anyone else own one of these? I have an all-original example, in black, with rosewood fretboard (see photo). It was originally sold to another Basschatter in 2009. It's the same one, but thanks anyway. All tips are welcome.
Sorry for the delay. This is an Original Series with Progress headstock which I played on when I first visited OW in 2001. I literally couldn't put the thing down -- it was fantastic! It's a real shame I didn't buy it: URL=http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/716/img0002dg.jpg/] Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us
-
Overwater Original Series (four and/or five-string models)
Kees_SoS replied to Kees_SoS's topic in Bass Guitars
Sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick there ;-) Yes, absolutely. I should imagine Overwater may know someone who could do it.
no not cloning the bass- cloning the preamp, which you would be able to match easily EDIT: as a preamp out of production I see no problems in doing this. I wouldn't suggest it on something you can buy still.
-

Sounds fantastic. is the one you sold the red five-string fretless that was on eBay in 2007?
I played a couple of RC customs owned by Rod Clements. They were beautiful... I sold one on eBay for him a few years ago, and he ended up keeping the other. You can hear the fretless here...
-
Overwater Original Series (four and/or five-string models)

They're still talking about officially reintroducing the Original Series ;-)
The 4-string on eBay looks like an earlier model. The pickup position is different and the body shape isn't quite as refined as the later models. Do you have any photo's or links for new Original Series basses? When I last talked to someone at Overwater a few years ago there was mention of a 30th anniversary model based on the Original, but nothing appears to have come of it.
-

Cloning would be cheaper, but I doubt it would be as good. The Overwater guys are second to none in their field, which is why we all keep on going back to them ;-)
prob be cheaper to clone it yourself if you asked big red x for photos....
