    Preamp

I moved my Helix Stomp on, swapped it for an HX FX which suited me better. I never saw the day coming when I might go down this route. And to be fair this is just an idea right now. It might not work, but if it does it could save a lot time setting up. One potential problem is how the rest of the band hear me. But really, they are responsible for their own monitor needs.

    Preamp

Beyond my means I'm afraid. The idea is to use what I have. I just thought a preamp pedal might be fun. One with an effects loop would be super.

    Preamp

Loads of great suggestions. Thank you. Apologies for the vagueness of the opening post. I'm vague because I'm not sure precisely what my plan entails! I'll probably be going straight into the X-air (and actually I discovered some pretty exciting options in the 'effects' list) I plan to use a Backbeat and put some of the higher frequencies of my bass into my monitor.

    Preamp

Now I'm making the move to an almost ampless set up in one of my bands, I have discovered a whole new avenue down which to fling my money. Preamp. Between bass and PA. So come on baby light my gas. Don't break my heart by telling me I don't need one, nor by reminding me I have several options already, just tell me what you use and why it's better than everyone else's.
  5. Sounds like I need to buy one for each bass, just to save faffing around.
  6. The addition of some fettling and DIY is a massive plus. Also knocking out a guitarist or two.
  7. Ah that's good. I don't have any hair so I was worried.
  8. I'm getting mine tomorrow. A quick question, does the hairband have to be pink?
  9. Funnily enough he is in Swindon too
  10. Hmmm. Wish I'd seen this. Just agreed to buy one from some dodgy bloke on Facebook!
  11. As a result of all this I'm not bothering to hump my gorgeous Ampeg Barefaced rig for this band any more. If they want the bass to sound like a wasp in a tupperware I'll just put it through the PA and get a Backbeat.
  12. This was her argument. I am taking back the job of driving and lifting them.
  13. I don't know what my RCFs are (they live in our singer's garage) @Happy Jack might remember as I bought them from him. I was horrified to hear our singer suggest she might look for a lighter alternative. Put simply, the RCFs provide the best sound quality I've ever heard.
  14. Hi, If you had inherited a scratchplate which had been painted with an unknown type of paint and you wanted to remove it without destroying the finish beneath the paint, what would you do?
  15. If a bass is going to have a maple fretboard, then black inlays, natural body and black plate is most definitely the way to go.
  16. None of my wives or long term partners has been that excited by my chosen lifestyle. I don't blame them at all. One came to gigs in order to prevent me murdering the singer en route to the venue. So in a very real way she kept that band alive. But I have led a self centred life, selfish in my indulgence, myopic to the needs of others. Which is why I will, deservedly, die penniless and alone. I am a feckin awesome bass player though.
  17. I'm not sure what else I might mean either! Yes I don't recognise it. Used to seeing him with his Blockhead bass. looks really ugly doesn't it? And bulky. Hats off to him managing to play it!
  18. A quick question - what the heck is NWR playing? Also an observation on how he sets up a holding pattern as ID fails entirely to come in at the correct place at the start of verses. It's the kind of musical flexibility I love to have with the people in my bands. The script is merely the outline plan, everyone must be ready to go with whatever the singer decides to do.
  19. I bought the amp and cab I could afford, and saved for the bass I wanted. Knowing what I know now? Same bass but I'd leapfrog the carlsboro stuff and go directly to the Trace.
  20. Oh and I suspect I've been spoilt by years of playing big stages with proper PA support. It didn't matter a fig what my amp sounded like - only I could hear it.
