It's curious isn't it? My Elf is plenty loud enough for my band. Two 15" Barefaced cabs and it thunders. I tend to entirely ignore the wattage labels (or at least I try to) I've gigged with 1000, 250,100, 500, 200, 300, 2000 watt amps of all types shapes and sizes and all have done the job.

The vox amplug is designed by the mission impossible team. I believe the self destruct mechanism is actually the best designed part of it. In contrast this clumsy looking lump is half the price and I've had it for very many years. It has aux in, doesn't have a load of effects, is bulky runs off batteries, looks ugly and never ever breaks. My Amplug lasted a week, I tripped on the headphone cable and it literally disintegrated.

If you see a well priced second hand one jump on it. You won't regret it.

I know what you mean @Newfoundfreedombut in a way this weakness is also a strength. With the patch based pedals like the C4 the controls are customisable and as such almost unusable for me. I just can't remember what they all do on all the different patches.. The SY-1 has a lot of options but actually it's easy to learn. So it means that I can alter the sound on the fly to suit different rooms, amps basses whatever. And I don't really use that many sounds on it so it's a simple fiddle if I need to change it. There's no real middle ground. Either spend ages with a computer setting up patches and go with them as they are, or have a pedal you have to set up on the floor.

Totally different beasts, a switch on the end of the SY-1 for guitar or bass and every single sound is usable. The SYB5 is garbage in comparison. Seriously not the same league.

Used the Trapper fuzz at volume recently. Could barely contain it, lots of feedback. Suspect the bass Trapper would be much more usable.

Yeah, I too have lost a little run of festivals, to which I had really looked forward. A nice change from the usual cramped, dingy pubs.
