  1. Well I'll be.... through some deft marketplace activity and more than a little creative accounting I have been closing in on the backbeat cash. Then up comes a bass that I didn't know I needed 🤦🏼‍♂️
  2. Odd how these little things either niggle or add a little something isn't it? I quite like it too, now I come to think of it. But I don't actually know why! It's probably just a response to a tactile sensation.
  3. I have sourced some non cooking resonators, but they don't kick out the same oomph as the seat melting one did. I have two, but intend to add two more once I am confident of my parallel /series ohm calculations. That way I ought to be back to my backside rumbling best.
  4. Apologies I typed envelope when I was thinking of the octave pedal.
  5. I would be asking myself the same question! The last pedal I bought cost more than you're hoping to get for this. Price up a board, patch cables, and power cables - before even thinking of the pedals themselves. If this had an envelope and maybe an OD instead of the reverb and delay, we wouldn't be having this conversation - you'd be posting a parcel to Somerset!
  6. Postman just dropped off a guitar strap for me, purchased a couple of days ago and already suspending one of my heavy weights. This transaction, quite simply, could not have been better. Swift, friendly communication, and a fast package and post job. Fair pricing and perfect description. I heartily recommend this fine Basschatter to one and all.
  7. Hey - what can I say? I am a weak and feeble man. There's a Bentley Hardon I don't own, and it's for sale, and it's just up the road. You do the maths.
  8. I too have seen HBs advertised for more than the Thomann price. I'm actually tempted by this. I have never played a 6er but having the 4 string version of this I know just how good they are. Which side of Bristol are you? (pm'd you)
  9. That's good to know. As I say my thoughts were prejudice based not fact based. I'm way more laid back these days!
  10. We had to pay prs and some other crowd, is it ppl? I don't remember my partner sorted all that out. I remember he negotiated with prs each time it came up for renewal on the basis that we put on almost exclusively bands playing their own material. As far as my addled mind recalls, he always found them willing to accept this as a basis for a reduction of the cost. We paid but they worked out some formula based around how many bands would actually throw in a cover or two. I never bothered to look into it , just used to feel that all the years of penury and hard work we put into creating a place for musicians to play and we had to give money to Macca and Madonna every year. I'm fairly certain that was a poor caricature of was actually happening, and if I'd cared to learn the facts I might have felt differently. But I literally gave years of my life helping musicians and every penny that went out made that harder. So yeah, whether it is a tax or not is irrelevant. It felt like one.
  11. That's instant gratification for someone! I don't need another board full of pedals, but even so, tempting. Really neat too.
  12. I must be the only man alive who really loved the old ABM drive knob!!
  13. +1 For the Tri Parallel Mixer. Splendid bit of kit.
  14. I'll have a listen when I get home
  15. Can't remember which Basschatter put me on to Khruangbin, but I was listening, spellbound, the other day. I got to thinking; what is it this band I like? On the surface not my thing really. All that guitar noodling ought to be the last thing I like. Then I realised. Listen to her bass. With only a very slight change of emphasis I could be listening to dub reggae. She has that same ability to pick out a phrase, with a great melodic hook, and sit with it, locked in with the drummer letting the lead instrument ramble and play over the top. Anyone else hear what I'm hearing, or is this the rambling of a deranged mind?
  16. Hmm, this thread has come at an interesting point in my insane and indefensible gear hoarding. I'm pretty much burned out on pedal gas and have had no real bass gas for a long time. So my thoughts turn to my Bi-amp rig. The top end is sorted with a guitar multi / amp sims pedal, but my bottom is still up for grabs. Pre-amp madness awaits.
  17. Thos little bridge pieces...oh my goodness. The times I've spent hunting for them!
  18. Just completed a happy transaction with Colin. It took months to come to fruition - all of it entirely my fault - and Colin treated me with nothing but kindness and tolerance. An excellent Basschatter with whom to do business. happy to recommend him,.
  19. Good lord. You snooze you lose around here!
  20. I am sold on the idea. Need to squirrel a few shekels away, but if I gig again I want to enjoy the low end and this seems to be the best way.
  21. During the lockdown I've battled not just with the loneliness of isolation, but have had to come to terms with a debilitating condition which affects my ability to learn and to play. It's a physical and cognitive experience both frustrating and painful. Nonetheless, my bass has been a constant companion and a blessing. I set out to learn to transcribe and have ended up learning to read and write music. Slow going often taking backwards steps, but more rewarding than I could ever have imagined. The joy of working with other musicians is unique in my experience and learning is not a substitute for that. Rather it is a whole other world of discovery. I love it. What to do when I can't get out of bed? Simple, buy and sell effects pedals here and on Facebook. Another fascinating learning experience, both fun, splendidly obsessive and ultimately even useful. So no difference in learning, or just cutting loose and jamming some fun tunes for me. It's all good.
  22. Anyone follow the JHS YouTube channel? Did a great live stream recently about the klon. I suppose once something becomes collectable, it's value as a functional item is no longer the deciding factor
  23. I think we can safely say, given his high hiss sensitivity, if ped likes it it will be the quietist compressor on the market.
