  1. Until a few years back I still had my first bass, a Kay ⚓. Unfortunately all my old guitars and basses, at some point became props for some insanity or other and got destroyed. I had the head of an acoustic mounted by a friend on a block like a trophy. He'd retrieved the smouldering remnant after a beach party where I had decided it would entertain those present if I was to strip naked and play the guitar having first set it on fire. Luckily we always took a bottle of petrol to facilitate a quicker start to the fire, so I had the necessary accelerant. And people still ask me why I stopped drinking. Anyway thanks to all this and other shameful tales, my longest owned is my Aria Pro ll. 1983, bought from Guitar Workshop up St Michael's Hill in Bristol. Still a fine instrument, if somewhat ravaged by the passing of time.
  2. I've never relic'd anything, but I confess I find the whole thing fascinating. I used to be in the 'why would you?' camp, until it dawned on me that it's an art form all of its own. I love the creativity. @Cuzzie 's paint cracks and crazing is superb. As with all art you don't have to like every single example to appreciate it. Thanks for sharing your work.
  3. When I was switching between the two I just had both turned up full I think.
  4. Great advice thank you.
  5. I've run many different amps of varying outputs into two BF Compacts and never had any problems getting a great sound.. Having said that the advice to speak with Barefaced directly is probably the best way to go.
  6. Words out of my mouth. There was a time my band only played venues with full pa, a team of sound engineers and I still humped a firkin great 8x10 around. Sadly those days are gone and I'm now in multiple bands playing some tiny pubs and some cavernous great function rooms, or average sized village halls. We cart a pa which can handle our vocals and maybe a mic on the snare and kick, but while it might handle the bass I would still need a big enough monitor for us all to hear it. So I take two light weight cabs with me whether I need them or not. If I don't need them I turn down.
  7. I lowered the bridge, put a little relief on the neck, got the action how I like it. Then lowered the pick ups slightly to get a nice clearance and good sound. But the g string was still producing more mwah than the others. So I followed advice and popped a small shim in the nut and it solved the problem. What I've not done is make this solution more permanent!
  8. Understatement of 2020 contender right there
  9. Sound clips , pictues and a four page review please!
  10. @Chewiethat red is beautiful isn't it? I really like mine (sunburst) but that is lovely. I think it's a high quality instrument, but I don't search for faults in a bass. If something leaps out at me that's different, otherwise does it sound, look, feel and play nicely? Those are the only questions that matter to me. I have basses that cost £1200 and basses that cost £137 and have zero difference in sound, looks and playability.
  11. Damn, that's a beautiful little collection of instruments. Out of my price range and too nice for the places I play! But they look really good.
  12. Front page has it at 395
  13. The Phil Lynott one is at 2 different prices depending on where you look. I'd have been sorely tempted at the lower price
  14. Awww, but, but, aww ...I've been good.
  15. It's my birthday next week, wonder if the buyer is getting it for me?
  16. The Bass Collection instruments are top class. Not 'great for the price' in my opinion, just great. The Profile was my first, but over the years I will be getting more. Not the worlds biggest Jazz fan but this one looks like a seriously sexy bit of wood and wire Congratulations.
  17. Went to Thomann and had a peek. Noticed that for a few quid more you can get the same bag but the two bass version. Then I thought, how bulky and heavy that would be. And then I spied Thomann's own brand case which has some pretty cool features. A large storage pod which is removable, and thicker padding than the Gator. Lots of choices.
  18. cheers mate, great review, am thinking of selling off my huge collection of hard cases to fund a couple of these.
  19. That's the colour I'm toying with for my birthday treat. To me. From me.
  20. Thank you!
  21. This is my experience. A bass tutor asked me to run through so. e songs I knew so he could assess where I was at. I couldn't play a damn thing. Not on my own just into the open air. I needed the other parts of the song. As far as memory goes, I stop playing a tune and it's gone in a few weeks. The bonus is that it's not gone like it was never learned, it comes back noticeably faster than learning a brand new song.
  22. Useful to have about the house I suppose, if you can get them to do the washing up and stuff. But if it had been me I'd have just as soon kept the bass.
  23. Anyone had a bash on one of these? Care to share if you have?
