  1. @Andyjr1515 It's pretty consistent all the way along but actually becomes shallower as it approaches the heel. Closer to 8.5 and a gnats nadger hair at that end.
  2. *runs to shed to measure*
  3. Update: I didn't rush removing the thin but tightly packed layer of wood from the rout. I found the best way was to secure the instrument and score repeatedly with a sharp blade then tap gently on my tiniest screwdriver. I know it's sharp; I've pulled it from my bleeding fingers quite often. This did the job in no time at all. Once I cleaned it I used the same handy tool to clear all the adhesive from around the nut at the body end of the neck. Didn't want that sticking and me putting undue strain to lever it out. I then used my tyre removal technique and indeed my tyre removing tools to gently work the rod free mm by mm gently and slowly Et voila! @Andyjr1515 you asked for the depth at the deepest point. It's 1cm give or take half a thou
  4. I faced a stark choice. Getting older and gigging with multiple bands I could not trust my memory to juggle so many sets. First I learned to play from chord charts but I added depping to my list and the number of songs rocketed. So I decided to dedicate the last of my fading brain cells to learning to read. This way if a song appears on a set list and I have it in my archive I can refresh my memory of it quickly. Effectively using transcriptions as an extra long term memory. Oh and it's a joy Really great fun.
  5. Paint the headstock to match the body maybe?
  6. They do a P-Bass neck?
  7. Love the name @TbirdnTalman! Can't help wonder how long some names would be if certain Basschatters were to adopt the same approach. Anyway, colour of pickguard. A simple question, with a simple answer. Tort. Some make the mistake of thinking tortoiseshell is the perfect pickguard because it goes with everything. This is of course quite wrong. It's the perfect pickguard because it improves everything. Happy to help 😊
  8. I'd love a couple of these under my SVT or CTM. Good luck with your sale, sure someone will snap it up.
  9. Not lame, a careful step back from the precipice is a wise move.
  10. This isn't all that pretty though.
  11. That's brilliant!
  12. Not had a great day today so left it alone, I'll measure it first thing tomorrow. Sorry. Thank you Two things helped a lot. The instrument might be worth a couple of hundred to someone who really wanted it, but it was worthless as it was. Also there are people here hold your hand all the way, makes it far less daunting.

Just did a side by side with my American Sound. The California is like the American's beefier, big brother. Both great and I'll be using both.
  14. That is literally stolen. Well done, enjoy.
  15. Me too
  16. Do it! It's surprisingly medetitive
  17. Human nature. But I think it's been civilised, it's ok to say you prefer x over y
  18. It's been suggested. I'm going to wait for the Elders Of The Builders of The Bass to pronounce. Meanwhile I need to get digging , that wood won't remove itself.
  19. I think you are in error if you think I or anyone else thinks you care about such things. You see the point is we, as a species, are social animals and sharing and bonding are vital to the survival of that species. Even though we no longer need anything to survive (we are effectively an out of control cell multiplying on the body of the earth) these instincts are still within us. Saying hey I love Led Zeppelin's second album, or I love Hull City or I love precision basses will provoke a visceral response. Those who feel similarly will warm to us and share their love for such things, we will bond with these members of our tribe and protect them if they are under threat, confident that we also have their protection. The people who think Houses Of The Holy was far superior and Hull City are Ok but far from the best team and I don't mind a p-bass but I'm a jazz kind of guy really will be happy to enter into a friendly discourse with us but neither of us will feel we particularly have each other's backs if a neighbouring tribe raid the cave. Now if you say why the hell would you even like anything by that pile of carp band and I fecking hate Hull City fans especially those who can't see the p-bass for the waste of wood that it is, well, now we know where we stand and you will have to be incredibly sensitive to subjects close to my heart in future if you want any of the meat I've scavanged before the hyenas arrived. In fact I suspect you to be in league with the enemy tribe and as such are persona non grata as far as me and the rest of our tribe are concerned, so you can bog off. We don't think these things but our emotional and intellectual responses are firmly rooted in them. So, was New Boots And Panties one of the greatest albums of the seventies? Think carefully before you answer Jack.
  20. Not this one mate, the fretboard is chunky the neck like a wafer
  21. You think maybe fill it under the new rod to give a little more strength to the delicate neck?
  22. This has been a great read, thanks everyone.
  23. This is full of information I didn't know. Thank you.
  24. Yep, no disasters today. A good day.
