What an extraordinary day out that was. Thank you to Mike and the Scrumpettes. You continue to build on the success of previous years. Wonderful. Enjoyed meeting you all so much, and missed those who couldn't be with us. I confirmed my reputation as a soft touch where buying basses is concerned - as @Kateplaysbass put it - "don't ever play poker Stew". It was apparently obvious to others that I was going to cave in long before I had admitted it to myself.

Bandeoke in Bristol last night. Wet night, bar staff said they'd been dead for the week - didn't auger well. However we ended up fighting them off with the proverbial soiled stick. The owner is talking about increasing our residency from monthly to fortnightly. I count this as a success.

I have been delighted with all my Affordaboard purchases. Great service, as you say. I hope your pedal is as good as the ones I've bought from them.

Pub gig in Bristol, last minute filling in for a band who had dropped out Absolutely no need for us to be there. The pub was heaving with rugby fans watching about 500 screens, including one cinema sized at the back of the stage. The game finished, the place emptied, we went on.

Band practice last night in Trowbridge. Or Trowvegas as it's known locally. Same rig as I have been using at home without any issues. Same bass, cables, pedals - everything. Never had any issues with it Plug in at the rehearsal room and it's buzzing like a chainsaw. Horrible. Now the last time I gigged in Trowbridge I had exactly the same problem, but with a totally different rig. And the time before in a different venue with, yep, you guessed it, a different rig. So, logically it must be the town itself to blame. Anyone else know any towns to be avoided because of dirty electric?

Glam rock

New band starting on Sunday. I've been building a board with the specific set in mind.

I use mine as an always on pedal. It breaks up my sound just enough without losing the essential character of the bass.

DFX raises ire in the breasts of some people, much as Behringer used to. I won't join that debate; suffice it to say, I am not a lost customer, won over by cheap copies. I'm simply not in the income bracket to try Darkglass pedals. This little beauty is quite simply the best eq pedal I've ever used. And I've tried a few. One of my favourite amps has a control called 'Shape' and it provided quite a remarkable range of tonal sculpting. The 'Character ' on this is very similar. It transforms any bass, any way you want it. The mid range parametric covers everything you want in that crucial area, and boy do the bass and treble make a big difference: a little goes a long way. If you can afford the original by all means buy it. If not Affordaboard has these at a very reasonable price.

It's great.
