  1. All in the fingers I suppose 😅😅
  2. On which Jam tracks did Bruce Foxton use a Rickenbacker (or his copy)?
  3. Yes! I am amazed at how much I altered my usual set up, there was zings, there were clangs, there were fresh, percussive, in your face rattles and clacks. Wonder why it suits this bass so much. I mean, it's not like the bass history books aren't full of finger style Ric players.
  4. Where do churches advertise for musicians? I confess I didn't realise they did until reading this. Nor that they paid. I suppose if I thought about it at all I assumed it was exclusively an American phenomenon and in any case musicians would be drawn from the congregation. I'm intrigued.
  5. A gem.
  6. This statement is indubitably correct. There really is no way Marmite can be considered rank.
  7. From what I've seen so far the current set up strikes a good balance. The pedal controls are as you say making broad changes without subtlety. But that's great when you first get the pedal. You can actually alter sounds straight away, before getting to grips with the software. Also at some gigs the sound that works in rehearsal just doesn't on stage. A quick shift of a parameter can fix this. Make it more complicated and that becomes tricky.
  8. Never felt I got the best out of this until today. And you know what? All I did was use a pick. Insane the difference it made. I only just started learning to play with a pick, and thank goodness I've overcome that particular prejudice.
  9. Anyone heard when this might be out? Didn't know how the bug might have interfered with it. Even the April date they originally gave is 'estimated' so I'm not getting that impatient. (I am)
  10. definitely helping
  11. Excellent, working on an excuse to need a second wireless system. Nearly there...
  12. Have to put it down to my misinterpretation then.
  13. Been planning a similar hatchet job on mine. Have no luthier like skills so can't do anything sensible but would you say it is worth doing?
  14. But lots of people seem to be. No need for the sarcasm really, it was a fair question.
  15. Why are people so cross with Ashdown over this? It could be bad business, the basses may not sell. But unless you're a shareholder, why are you so upset about it?
  16. Ooh count me in, I'd love to see one in the flesh
  17. I have a good grasp of what the pedal controls do now. Just from other pedals I've used and a bit of good old trial and error. When I say replacing some are actually long gone. I've been through two old Boss synth pedals and one synth wah type thing, and if you add up all the different filter pedals, mini q tron, micro q-tron, Source audio and Boss, Bassballs and the autowah and envelopes on mutli effects I've tried a a whole host of things and this does the lot, one way or another. I don't use a huge amout of effects while I'm playing but I have identified some which would work tomorrow if I had a gig. And as my dep work grows there is always a chance of an 80s set coming my way and then I can go crazy with it.
  18. Serious question this time, can you carry out repairs or supply parts for MB amps that have gone phut?
  19. Please can you send me this bass so I can get a closer look. Thanks.
  20. Nice. I have a sneaking suspicion that my days of sound engineers went the way of back stage hospitality, groupies and decent pay, a distant memory, sadly. So this is all about experimentation, having fun, defining my personal sound and actually making life easier when turning up at different venues. No matter how big they are this rig can handle it. Different acoustics can be catered for easily, I have, effectively, bottom middle and top controls, easy. Set up and pack down will be much quicker now - so much of my stuff is permanently wired up. I used to have something similar back in the day but really it was just a pile of amps and cabs bodged together. The crossover has made all the difference to this.
  21. That's great, a really balanced review. Thank you. So the colour didn't win you over when you had the bass there in your hands then? I wonder how similar the electronics are in this to the lower priced HB I bought recently. I really dislike active basses as a rule but was so impressed with these - simply because of how subtle they are. It could be the case that what I liked about them is exactly what you didn't. I don't mind a bit of weight in a bass, so that's fine. However, all of that becomes irrelevant if there is neck dive. That's the only deal breaker for me when choosing a bass. I can't stand even the tiniest bit.
  22. Yum yum. That's on my wish list.
