  1. Flat night, stormy weather keeping a few at home I guess. Band leader decided bass and drums are too loud (based on unsolicited opinions of random drunks from previous gigs) so myself and drummer play so quietly that I'm not sure the audience even realised there was a band there. A gigs a gig and I'll play for anyone who'll pay me, but honestly it is nice to be able to hear yourself. Gawd only knows what the crowd listened to. Distorted vocals and self indulgent noise widdly diddly. Poor barstewards
  2. Lovely story. You and your brother play together?
  3. The odd thing is, if it's a simple repair why not get it fixed then sell it?
  4. I should add another important exception to the rule, I always stick to the original bassline if it was written by a master. The day I think I can come up with better than Jamerson, Osborn, Kaye, Entwistle, Watt-Roy or Thomas is the day I need sectioning.
  5. As others have said, it depends. I'm too busy in too many bands to put myself under the pressure of learning everything note for note. However there are some songs which have distinct recognisable bass parts; which parts I learn verbatim. Also some tunes are carried by a repeated, distinctive line. That gets learned and played as per the original. However, in two of my bands I don't think I have ever played the same song the same way twice! It's great fun that way, much more creative and a seat of the pants experience which I love.
  6. Um, I already have 5 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️
  7. Me and Al, opposite sides of the country, squinting into the sun, chewing on a contemplative cigar, fingering 45s beneath our ponchos
  8. I must point out once more nowhere near as heavy as my SVT!
  9. I am just a teensy bit tempted. But like Al I like the small size of the unit without the pedal. Let me cogitate.
  10. I have one of these and can happily confirm it is utterly superb. Two amps in one, light as a feather. * *Compared to an Ampeg SVT, Panzer VIII Maus tank, Mr Creosote that kind of thing** **But, seriously don't be out off by the weight,This is a great amp.
  11. Uncanny, a Carl introduced me to karate. He went by the nickname Cringer though.
  12. Love mine. DI out 2 separate jack outputs so can use as a splitter when using two amps. Scan function is excellent. Had to use mine yesterday as the drummer used a wireless he'd never used before (for his in ears) and at a particular spot it bumped my signal out. But a very simple fix.
  13. you need to remember to be super gentle with the master volume, or you'll shake the fillings from their teeth
  14. Here's my rig for this afternoon's gig After a little bit more fiddling I worked out the best way to set the tone controls It's all in the buttons baby! This has gone from the rubics cube of bass set ups to the simplest. I have mid button out. Treble in. And bass in for some tunes (big fat dubby / subby stuff) and out for the rest. Magic.
  15. I have a semi acoustic I never used to play because the strap button made it lean forward. Got brave and drilled a hole in the upper horn the other day and now I do play it do it doesn't count. Picked up a Fender pj in a trade but never play it. Don't know why.
  16. I think, on reflection, my third B1on was one, maybe two, too many. But that's more me being an idiot than being suckered. The auto-tune pedal I bought to help my woeful singing may well turn out to be a silly purchase, after all you need to get at least close to the note for it to work.
  17. Since I discovered my gear storage is damp I have had to move everything into my accommodation. I am not complaining, if the family member hadn't taken me in I'd be on the streets, however I live in one room with all my gear. And three dogs. Hasn't cured my gas at all.
  18. Ahh, two lovely looking basses you have for sale at the moment. Good luck mate.
  19. Damn that's a beauty. Could solve all our courier issues if I could afford to buy this!
