Met Hugh Cornwell once, a quiet unassuming guy. The Stranglers punk? Well at the time I supposed so. But now they have more of the Doors about them to my ears, than say the Damned or the Pistols. As with all these things bands get pigeon holed and swept along with whatever is exciting at the time.. Don't forget Elvis Costello (a country singer) was seen as punk! As were The Blockheads (a jazz funk band) and I even remember the Boomtown Rats being described as punk rock. Think of Britpop. What do Pulp and Ocean Colour Scene have in common? Very very little I'd say. Peaches b/w Go Buddy Go was the first 'punk' single I bought just to see what the fuss was about. Bought it in one of two record shops our tiny town then boasted. It sounded like nothing I'd heard before and at the same time very much like rock n roll. The bass line to Peaches made me wish I played bass instead of guitar, so I guess you could say JJB has had an indescribably big impact on my life.

Sorry to give you that impression. I like everything about it except the weight. So I thought it was a chance to try maybe fitting a new body to it, you know as an interesting exercise, or to lighten the existing body. The neck is great I would have preferred it if the previous owner had not cut the headstock down, but again I don't hate it just thought it would be fun to see if it could be enhanced. As to having to love something or not but there being no other options, well, that's an interesting perspective and I shall think on it.

Hey low end hive mind, pour your wisdom into me would you? I bought a cheap bass And was surprised by how much I liked it. However its a lump. Weighs about as much as a village church. But I really do like the neck. How do I source a lighter body? What pitfalls should I be made aware of? Also the previous owner has altered the headstock by removing a fair bit of wood leaving behind a slightly odd shape. Can I graft on more wood and cut a more pleasing shape? Is that even a thing? Or is there a way to repla8the headstock? I know these questions make me sound like a total imbecile, but in truth I can manage to hold many tools the right way round - just about. Also this would only be a bit of fun. The bass is a cheap back up I seldom use not worth selling and I thought might be an interesting place to start out learning to fettle. Who knows, one day I might roll my own from scratch.

One of my bands plays originals which loosely fit the description of folk music. As such we often find ourselves playing in family friendly environments. Every other word of the BL's songs seems to be either 🤬 or 🤬 or 🤬. It's hilarious watching him attempting self censorship on the fly. Especially as he has enough trouble recalling the original lyric most of the time.

Odd one last night. Filled in at short notice at a birthday party in a pub, original band had to cancel. I ended up as the photographer when they spotted my camera. Several guests joined us to sing on various songs and eventually decided they liked that so much that we were stopped so they could indulge in some karaoke for a bit. Still, I got paid.

Once I'm satisfied that the CTM can do the job then yes, that's the plan. I really, really don't want to part with the Ampeg. It's kind of a holy grail amp for me but I'm 56 now with back, hip and shoulder problems and the Ashdown is half the weight.

I can now add to my list of places I've conducted Basschat business the lychgate of a church. Brendon bought a bass from me there and a very pleasant conversation and transaction it was. Happy to recommend him to you all as man you can do business with. Even if I do feel a little guilty at feeding his obviously out of control bass habit. 😉

Walked into the local second hand music shop to discover they had shifted some old heavyweight gear of mine. While waiting for the guy to sort the cash and paperwork I had a noodle on a Rick copy. How close is the money you owe me to the price of this bass? Give me 20 we'll call it quits. Boom! I have a new bass. For £20. Or so it seemed to me. Yeah I could have pocketed the cash but I guarantee that it would have evaporated very quickly whereas the bass has not.

I discovered a while back that I was allowed to use my wife's Prime on my account. No big deal but as a photographer the unlimited cloud storage for photos is extremely useful. However the real excitement is that since the dissolution of the marriage at the behest of she who used to have to be obeyed and my subsequent relocation to a new domicile I have been able to continue to receive access to the benefits of her Prime account even though my default delivery address now differs from hers. Which is nice.
