So what do you guys do via a vis pedal boards? Receiver on the amp and use two long leads and the effects loop? Receiver at the pedal board and one lead back to the amp? Two different wireless transmitters /receivers one between bass and pedal board in and one between pedal board out and amp? Does it matter?

What a fine fellow and fabulous Basschatter @Shaggy is. With no prompting whatsoever he saw I was in need and like the fabled cavalry he rushed to my aid. I was lacking a slider cap for a Trace Elliot head. Given their scarcity and the enormous demand he could have literally named his price. So did he? Did he take the chance to empty my coffers? Did he heck as like. He popped it in an envelope and entrusted it to the care of the GPO. It arrived today. My amp is no longer a gap toothed monstrosity but rather a beautiful smiling mid scooped wonder. I commend sir Shagworthy of Shagtown to you all. He is a Prince among men.

The other day I was a verse or two into the first song in the set when I realised, horror of horrors, I wasn't wearing my hat. Of course I had to grab it and don it at once even at the expense of missing a couple of notes. It's inexplicable and bizarre behaviour especially when you consider that I wouldn't normally dream of wearing a hat indoors. And no I'm not superstitious. I just don't feel right playing without it. Anyone else have any odd ritualistic gig tics, habits, or traditions?

Yes, even the disgruntled poster contributed valid ideas, please don't judge them too harshly - I have been there it's not a pleasant place. One aside, as a result of the Pino chat I decided to listen to a few of the recommended tracks. I knew nothing of the man other than his name, it does get bandied hereabouts so it's hard not to have heard it. Sowing The Seeds Of Love was a massive hit when I was in my 20s and Tears for Fears very much on my radar, especially as they grew out of a local band. I doubt I've listened to the song for decades now and was astonished on hearing it again. I honestly had no idea it was a simple tribute to the Beatles. At the time it seemed cutting edge but it could have been written by Neil Innes! Anyway I'm off to listen to more recommendations. Carry on.

@blisters on my fingers The way I look at it a new bridge for acoustic bass isn't that expensive. Now I know what I'm doing if I decide to do a 'proper' job I can. However, right now I have a usable acoustic whereas it used to have no battery holder, unplayable action, nut lose and too high and was covered in dust. Result!

And despatched already!

OK I took it apart and blew away any dust. I noticed that in filing down the plastic bridge saddle to lower the action I had to go so far that the string was partially resting on the wooden base in which the piezo sits. It occurred that not only was the string unable to resonate properly but the bridge saddle wasn't being pressed down fully by the string. Part of the pressure was taken by the wood. Filed slots in the wood and bingo! Of course I should have removed the entire assemblage in the first place and shaved off the underside of the bridge - but I'm learning.
