Two of the very best D class amps available today?
stewblack replied to Al Krow's topic in Amps and Cabs
You are utterly, completely, and unequivocally correct. I withdraw my statement that are no right answers. Now please come to Somerset and tell my colour blind band-mates that my salmon pink bass is not orange. -

stewblack replied to Al Krow's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yeah this is what springs to my mind too. I suppose it's diverting to chat about if you have tried these two amps (and a host of others for purposes of comparison) over a long period in many different settings. I think the variables are limitless. A recent example: I played through a class d amp at rehearsal on Saturday with a cheap Harley B jazz bass and it sounded utterly sublime, as it has previously with my old Aria. Same evening put my Bruce Thomas Profile through it (a superior instrument to the HB in every aspect I can think of) and struggled all night to pull the same quality of sound from it. Some amps suit some basses better than others. Go figure. Anyway it's all subjective, so just as a bit of fun these conversations are quite harmless. But really you had just as well ask which colour guitar is best. There is no right or wrong answer. -
Phil is a wonderful bloke. Did I buy anything from him? No. Why not? Because he sent me a bass book and cd I was after free of charge. Just asked I donated his postage and packing costs to a charity of my choice. I wasn't even asking for the book just someone to burn the cd for me. He offered without prompting. this is what Basschat is all about as far as I'm concerned.

A piece of bass history. Battered and bruised but thumping great p-bass sound. Bridge could do with dipping in vinegar for a day or two as it has tarnished over the years and that washer round the input can't be original. Couple of holes where strap locks were once relocated, easily filled. However it is a genuine Matsumoko product and we know how good they are. Appears to be about 4kg.

It's powerful. It's lightweight. It sounds like the clashing of two mighty armies. It also sounds smooth and creamy. You have choices. It comes in a snazzy case. It is suitable for reggae, metal, blues, pop, afro, country, ska, jazz, folk, R&B, latin, rock and four other genres of your choosing. I might post if it comes to that, but I gig in a few different places and a meet up is always an option. In fact I prefer face to face, truth be told. I may end up in tears if you buy this. Go on, make me cry. -
Crazy St Patrick's Day shenanigans yesterday. Played in Oxford in the afternoon and then Bath in the evening. Irish bar in Bath, absolutely heaving, cracking gig, great fun.

First of three gigs yesterday. Last minute booking. Pub gig, odd set up with us tucked around a corner with a choice of playing at an angle to a large pillar or facing one of two ways, either choice meaning one set of punters watching us from the side. For some reason there was quite a few tipsy groups done up for St Patrick's Day - on the 16th! They were high spirited and wanted us to play Irish music. I advised them to come to my two St Patrick's Day gigs I'm doing with my Irish band, actually on the right day. So lunchtime gig in Oxford evening gig in Bath still to come. Busy weekend.

While we're on this topic, I have so many things hanging off my stand these days the thing is prone to toppling over. Are there heavy weight, wide based stands? Heavy weight as opposed to heavy duty I mean. Or am I better off just carrying a weight?

Thank you all so much! And @phil.c60 is a star

Does anyone by any remote chance have the CD which came with this book? Thanks in anticipation Stew

How do you know if you're any good?!
stewblack replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Life teaches me all the time. For instance I've learned that there will always be someone better than me and that I can't ever really know how good I am. So the second cancels the first. I don't strive to be better, or the best I can be, I don't want to smother my love for music under such pressure. I will become more comfortable in my playing if I play more often and with a wider range of people. So that's all I can try to do. -
It's a bit of an odd one. Unnoticeable in a live context but a head scratch nonetheless
