  1. What a fine fellow and fabulous Basschatter @Shaggy is. With no prompting whatsoever he saw I was in need and like the fabled cavalry he rushed to my aid. I was lacking a slider cap for a Trace Elliot head. Given their scarcity and the enormous demand he could have literally named his price. So did he? Did he take the chance to empty my coffers? Did he heck as like. He popped it in an envelope and entrusted it to the care of the GPO. It arrived today. My amp is no longer a gap toothed monstrosity but rather a beautiful smiling mid scooped wonder. I commend sir Shagworthy of Shagtown to you all. He is a Prince among men.
  2. Best review of anything, ever.
  3. I came into possession of my first Hiscox case recently. If anyone isn't familiar they are extremely good quality cases, well made, robust, not too heavy or bulky.
  4. That looks tasty!
  5. Really? Wow!
  6. I have a firm offer from @Stub Mandrelof this parish. Unless he has a late change of heart the deal will complete early next month. Sorry.
  7. Thanks @VTypeV4 knowing I could be playing through a frankly ludicrous pile of cabs is soo tempting. I mean just for a laugh.
  8. Plectrolology is a cult. Be very careful. Look what happened to Jack Reacher
  9. No argument with delivery, little package arrived today. Great service. Unfortunately the caps are a pound each and are not worth close to that. Also wrong size, wrong shape, wrong colour. The search continues.
  10. That's bang out of order @StevieE you should have written that in a private message. Who can truly value a bass like this? In any event the rotational neck weakens the intangible trussrod. So I've heard
  11. Ah, I do not need a not another bass, but my that's a beauty, if I manage to sell my 0 x 0 cabs I'll definitely take this. Are you driving nowhere any time soon?
  12. You find any you'll be my hero. I did discover that my old footswitch from a different amp will operate the mid scoop and graphic switches so I'm not endlessly reminded of their absence, but still...
  13. The other day I was a verse or two into the first song in the set when I realised, horror of horrors, I wasn't wearing my hat. Of course I had to grab it and don it at once even at the expense of missing a couple of notes. It's inexplicable and bizarre behaviour especially when you consider that I wouldn't normally dream of wearing a hat indoors. And no I'm not superstitious. I just don't feel right playing without it. Anyone else have any odd ritualistic gig tics, habits, or traditions?
  14. Great thread, thanks for all of the thoughts and experience shared here. Yes, even the disgruntled poster contributed valid ideas, please don't judge them too harshly - I have been there it's not a pleasant place. One aside, as a result of the Pino chat I decided to listen to a few of the recommended tracks. I knew nothing of the man other than his name, it does get bandied hereabouts so it's hard not to have heard it. Sowing The Seeds Of Love was a massive hit when I was in my 20s and Tears for Fears very much on my radar, especially as they grew out of a local band. I doubt I've listened to the song for decades now and was astonished on hearing it again. I honestly had no idea it was a simple tribute to the Beatles. At the time it seemed cutting edge but it could have been written by Neil Innes! Anyway I'm off to listen to more recommendations. Carry on.
  15. Blimey. Not many performers I was into when I was 10 still alive never mind giving it some like that
  16. @blisters on my fingers The way I look at it a new bridge for acoustic bass isn't that expensive. Now I know what I'm doing if I decide to do a 'proper' job I can. However, right now I have a usable acoustic whereas it used to have no battery holder, unplayable action, nut lose and too high and was covered in dust. Result!
  17. And despatched already!
  18. OK I took it apart and blew away any dust. I noticed that in filing down the plastic bridge saddle to lower the action I had to go so far that the string was partially resting on the wooden base in which the piezo sits. It occurred that not only was the string unable to resonate properly but the bridge saddle wasn't being pressed down fully by the string. Part of the pressure was taken by the wood. Filed slots in the wood and bingo! Of course I should have removed the entire assemblage in the first place and shaved off the underside of the bridge - but I'm learning.
  19. That's kind of you to point me in the right direction. Thank you. I'll look and report back
  20. Just placed an order, thanks
  21. Only one way. Purely in the interest of science. You owe it to science. TO SCIENCE
  22. So I decided rather than throwing it into the dustbin I would repair and rejuvenate my acoustic bass. things didn't go quite to plan, for many reasons chief among which is that I didn't bother finding out what and how I should do before I started filing drilling sawing hammering etc. The action is almost playable now, nowhere near as much risk of anybody mistaking this fine instrument for something more usually seen at an Olympic archery event. However the piezo pick up is producing some interesting results, specifically it can detect the E and D strings and indeed produces quite a pleasant sound. However, when I play the A and D strings it seems a little more reluctant to have anything to do with the whole performance. Ideas? I did nothing other than remove it and wonder what it was and then replace it.
  23. One of us is going to have to buy up some of these caps and find out what works
