  1. Believe me if I wasn't flat broke you'd have been counting your cash a long time ago!
  2. I don't watch TV but damn I'd watch this.

About to plug in. Anyone remember the opening scene of Back To The Future?

Just realised my new head will run into 2 ohms.... Too much?
  5. Rotten luck. Mine has been very clean.
  6. Whether he actually felt Sue Lawley or not is more of a mystery.
  7. I do believe he has taken his tea in the Sahara though so we'll have to give him that one.
  8. I'm new to the Ampeg camp and it's like I can stop searching now. Sit me down with a Precision through an SVT and it's like all that scrabbling around is over. Unlike Bono I found what I was looking for. I also believe Trace Elliot has a special tone and Eden amps have a character all their own. Behringer and Markbass, Orange and Carlsboro - all distinct, and I've gigged with them all and more - but you know what? I bet you any money I could not tell them apart in a blind test. At least I couldn't tell which was which. Even the valve Ampeg sounded OK but nothing special when I first plugged in, but once I played it with the band it just oozed class throughout the whole sound. It needed that context to make sense. As you say, tough to describe the sound, my singer said it was like melted chocolate poured over the mix, which I rather like. Of course the thing with bass is you and I and everyone else on Basschat will make precisely the same gear sound different by what we do with our hands.
  9. I was so looking forward to seeing them at Reading festival, I think it was 1978, either way we got arrested and spent the evening enjoying the gentle hospitality of Thames Valley Police instead. Yes, we got arrested while Sting Stu and Andy got away with it. Go figure. The irony wasn't lost on one cheerful Bobby "don't worry son, you'll be seeing plenty of the Police tonight." He quipped as he gave my mate another friendly slap.

I must confess I am a little bit excited...
  11. Thanks in no small part to the encouragement and good sense on this thread I am buggering on regardless. In fact I just applied to 2 more bands, one for a dep job the other asking for a pro bassist. So thank you all again.

Looking forward to trying it out in anger. Bedroom volume tells me it works - no more.

So I did the deed and traded my little tiny 12" BF cab for the 1X15 I was after. I am sad to see the little thing go it was truly a box of wonder - but who knows what the future holds? Maybe we'll reunite one day. For now I had to trade as funds are exhausted. This is what my A rig now looks like:
  14. As title suggests I have a ticket to see PMJ at the O2 Academy in Bristol a week on Wednesday. I can't go. Which pains me. Price on ticket is 29 quid I'll take 25.
  15. Problem I face is shelling out the 100 plus before they'll even quote me the 250. If I knew the price I could either swallow it or throw the flipping thing into the nearest skip.
  16. I suppose if I really tried to find something to moan about it would be the times people don't leave feedback after a positive experience. Seems only polite to do so, but then people have busy lives, so I get it.
  17. Yep agree with the OP, all too easy to imagine everyone wants to scam you in this world. Basschat dispels this myth. In fact the only faulty thing I ever bought here I 100% believe the seller had no idea was broken. I didn't even mention it to him, life's too short, just fixed the problem.
  18. Yeah, the only genuinely funny bit was most likely a mistake
  19. I find the Trace Elliott / Barefaced combination to be a winner. My TE head sits perfectly atop a BF 110 too. Plenty loud.
  20. I use a TCE 250 for these type gigs and it's perfect. Marries very nicely with the BF 110 too. MarkBass? My only experience has been a sad one. When the amp broke down I have been quoted over a hundred quid just to have the fault diagnosed. Repair cost? Whatever they want to charge. Compare with the £30 repair and service to revive my TE head by an amp tech of my choice! MB only licence one company to repair their gear, no one else can get the bits. This may be common practice with modern class D amp manufacturers I don't know. But it's meant I now have an expensive box I can't use without shelling out an unknown amount of money. Only my personal experience, you'll find plenty others say TE and MB never break down, I might have been unlucky.
  21. I've been in more than one band where we didn't bother getting a singer, just let the guy who wrote the songs do it to save us the hassle of dealing with the ego. Even if they weren't particularly gifted singers it was still more fun. Then I found my current singer. No discernible ego, none. Regards her voice as an instrument, looks after it, has learned how it works by paying for coaching, rehearses hard every day, carries the gear, owns her own gear, books gigs, in fact works her backside off getting gigs, runs the social media, sets up and packs down, soundchecks the band, drives herself and others to gigs, doesn't see herself as any more important than anyone else in the band, learns her parts, never blows out a rehearsal, first time I met her was in the car park outside the rehearsal room and she carried my bass from the car for me. Oh and she is literally the best singer I've ever worked with, magical voice. I've said it before, no you can't, hands off, she's a keeper.
