  1. So we were asked to minimise kit in order to bring fewer cars and to help us with multiple stairs. Sounds great but the drummer looks like he's 10ft tall
  2. Thanks for all the advice. I tried everything suggested but the thing seems dead with no clear cause. As a temporary fix I've put in a 15" speaker I had doing nothing and it sounds pretty darned good. Was considerably heavier than the one I took out too. Don't know if that's significant.. If that solves the problem then I'm content. If it's just a temporary solution until I find a better replacement so be it. Really appreciate the time you guys have taken to help me out.
  3. I'm already burying my magic mending mate in amp problems. Don't want to bug him with this. Funds exhausted at the moment so professional repair not an option.
  4. 15" is all I can tell you. Oh but I could upload audio of the fart. VID_20180928_122230.mp4
  5. Nothing else looks unglued or damaged. More pics.. will secure that plate then try it.
  6. The connecting wires to the rear of the speaker are soldered the plate they're soldered to is loose. First possible problem.
  7. Thanks for that guys, really good advice. I shall follow all the suggestions and report back
  8. Bought a cab and made the classic mistake of not listening to it at volume. Played through it before handing over the cash and it sounded lovely, got it home and (not remotely at gig volume) can't play below the 5th fret on the E string without being accompanied by horrible crappy farting sound. No question the seller was genuine about not turning up and disturbing the old folk downstairs - I'm not complaining about that - I want to know is a speaker in any way repairable and if not where does one buy an adequate replacement and how do I calculate a suitable speaker for the particular cabinet into which it must be put? Thanks oh bottom end hive mind.
  9. I've had a dep slot come in for this weekend and need to learn a few and brush up on a few. Was reacquainting myself with the final chorus of Footloose and kept tripping over a few bars. So reverting to first principles I thought 'slow it right down, play to a metronome, gradually speed it up'. As youtube was open I decided to use a drum beat on there and found this wonderful vid. Not having any Apple products about the place I can't try the app itself but frankly this is plenty good enough for me. Just >> to a suitable starting tempo and let it run. The imperceptible increase is just great for getting up to and beyond the speed you need.
  10. Maybe musty rather than fuzzy. A bit fousty. Not clinical like a modern bass sound.
  11. I just need to discover how to get there and where to park. Can you even take a car to London any more? Been years since I've travelled that way.
  12. Oh my it's arrived. I can't believe you actually did it and it actually arrived. It's a work of art.
  13. So in a moment of spontaneous recklessness I bought a ticket to see Mr Dart and his pals up in the big smoke. Anyone else going? Any scope for a BC meet up before the gig?
  14. Basschat introduced me to Mr Dart and his friends. It was only a couple of days ago and already I am entirely smitten. I don't know where I go to sign up for life membership of the church of JD but man count me in.
  15. I can attest not only to the extreme loveliness of this bass, but also to the fact that you won't deal with a nicer bloke than Chris. At this price you will be robbing him too.
  16. Totally agree. When I extend it through my BF 1X10 the results are splendid. I'm after the holy grail of a bass rig I can carry on a push bike - which is why the Elf appeals.
  17. The only reservation I have is the 200w. Can it keep up with an average four piece band? Not super noisy punk, nor pleasant folk harmonies just a full kit, normal guitarist (ie slightly louder than needs be) and strong vocals. I have tried a TC Electronics 250w combo in rehearsal and it couldn't quite keep up. Are these 200 ordinary watts or TE watts like the in old days do you think?
  18. Nice ! And more than a little inspirational. Making my own cabs soon. May go down a similar route...
  19. That's brilliant Phil. Seriously thank you. I appreciate there is a greater complexity and nuance to this stuff but I feel I have a way in now.
  20. Guys, if you've already done an idiots guide to these graphs could you point me in the appropriate direction? If not it would be great to have a broad brush stroke explanation for myself and I suspect others around these parts.
