  1. Thank you. In fairness he's a guitarist so less discerning than us where proper amps are concerned 😅 I'm popping over tonight to give it a hammering so I'll know more then.

    Hiwatt

A friend just texted to say he'd bought a Hiwatt Maxwatt B100 combo for £75. He asks "Have I done well or have I boobed?" I don't know that amp so I throw it out to the community to give me an answer for him.
  3. I'm going to look on it as an opportunity to see how good the seller's after care is. If all is dealt with well I will definitely be buying more from them. The good strings are very good.
  4. Update. The Olympia flats have been on my Aria for a few days and sadly I seem to have one duff string. The E string is less resonant, has less sustain than the rest and try as I might I cannot sort the intonation. All the others I've adjusted without bother and they are clear and beautiful sounding, a real chime to them, but the E is going back. sad face.
  5. In that case I shall bring old 'faker along and see if anyone is interested. Got a couple of Westones too but they might go up here first. 80s bass clear out beckons!
  6. I love the film but am so clueless and unobservant I hadn't recalled his name. Thanks for giving me the excuse I (didn't) need to watch it again.
  7. When I saw the thread dedicated to knock offs (or is the plural knocks off?) had been locked I thought perhaps discussion was similarly discouraged. I don't wish to invite the wrath of the mods which I know can be terrible.
  8. Just received another cable handcrafted by the master. The really great thing about Dave's workmanship is that you don't need to worry about it. If you have a problem with your sound you know absolutely it isn't the cable so can more readily find and fix the issue.
  9. I have a bass to sell, made in Japan, but because of its distinctive shape I'm not allowed to discuss or advertise it here. Am I controvening any rules if I bring it?
  10. I'm interested to try a set on my Stingray next. See if they calm that zing down a little.
  11. The one thing we both agreed on was no solicitor would line his or her pocket as a result of our unhappiness. We came to an agreement at the kitchen table. she kept everything and I only got paid as much as she could afford.
  12. I'm going to give my old Aria a good seeing to tomorrow just as soon as I finish getting it set up. But early results are very promising.
  13. Sorry it took longer than I expected but the Olympia flats are now on. They have a little more 'ring' to them than I expected especially on the D and G strings. Also my intonation is now all to seek, so I'll need to have a play with that. But the playability is lovely and when I shove foam under them and wind back the tone pot I AM James Jamerson.
  14. Our local Argos did this to my Mum's neighbour. Poor old boy coughed up £60 quid and it really rattled him. I doubt they can actually do much to enforce it.
  15. Thanks for this. I have received my CDs and have already been blown away by the bass playing on just the first side of Spirit In The Dark. This set will live in my car for a few weeks then I'm going to start learning lines from it.
  16. Just bought the world's heaviest amp from Martyn. Very smooth transaction, arrived when he said it would and in one piece. Excellent man to deal with, buy with full confidence.
  17. Cheers David, I actually have one of those but ironically I have just switched to MarkBass 1 X 15 and its too small! When I use both 15s it should work.
  18. Anyone recommend a stand for an Epiphone Thunderbird? Mine decided to jump out onto the floor last night. Which failed to amuse me. 😥
  19. On my desk 😅 But seriously folks I have a taker so this is now gone.
  20. A new bass cures GAS like vodka cures alcoholism.
