1.
I was just about the suggest exactly the same thing. I'm pretty sure I've seen unloaded amps and cans for hire on there before, though the current website doesn't give any info other that to assure us they've got a crap load of stuff.
I know they've supplied TV shows I've worked on with empty cabs & amps so thought they'd be worth a shout but Karl has "withdrawn" from this thread?
2. Try John Henry's and if they can't help they will certainly know someone who can http://www.johnhenrys.com/
3. A Mate & I found the LP 'Long Player' in his Dad's record collection when we were teenagers and gave it a whirl out of curiosity 'cos we like the art deco looking sleeve... The rest as they say is history! Just awesome and Plonk done some marvelous bass playing in that band. Ronnie, Rod, Mac and Kenny weren't bad either
4.
I think I would try and tap up John at Bravewood before Fender CS. That would be my preference.
Again, try before you buy. He has off instruments as well.
5. I bought a pedal off Dave in a pleasant and friendly deal. A highly recommended BC'er to do business with. Cheers, Jon
6. Now sold. Thanks for looking. It contains the same famous circuitry built into every Sadowsky bass. Controls consist of volume, treble boost and bass boost. The Preamp/DI Pedal is perfect for vintage basses where installation of an onboard preamp would affect the instrument's original condition and resale value. The Preamp/DI pedal is recommended for all passive basses, basses with active pickups, and instruments that have active electronics that can be bypassed. It also works great with all upright bass pickups. Manual available here: http://www.sadowsky....eamp_manual.pdf
7. Now sold.
8. Andy bought a pedal off me in a super fast deal. Glad you are enjoying it! Cheers, Jon
9. Thanks for buying my pedal Jose and for the fast transaction. Cheers, Jon
10.
I was a sound engineer a lot longer than I've been a bass player so here goes. You can have the best gear in the world and it can be hard to get it right in a big space with hard reflective walls and ceilings. I can use the directional qualities of horns and line arrays to make sure the sound you hear is mainly from a speaker pointing directly at you but bass is omni-directional and the lowest notes will be partly coming directly at you and partly from the reflections off every major surface in the room. Because of the extra time the reflected sound takes to get to you it may cancel or augment the direct sound and blur the sound when there are multiple reflections. The large halls also have long reverberation times, the time it takes an echo to die away. If the reverb time is a couple of seconds then how many bass notes will be blurred together in what you hear. All rooms have resonances, play a note tht excites the resonance and it will be louder than you want, maybe much louder. The bigger the space the lower the resonances and this means bass is more likely to excite unwanted room resonances. So clean bass may be tricky or even impossible. Most people in the room won't be that interested in the bass (sad but true) what they want is the gut wrenching excitement of very loud sounds they can't do at home. One note bass does the job, and an engineer may boost frequencies to give the audience the experience they want. They may also choose to try and keep the instruments separate in the mix and it isn't uncommon for them to cut the mids in the bass to keep them out of the vocals and guitars sonic space. Live mixing is very much a compromise and their tastes may just be different from yours. Equally they may just not be good at their job....
This is exactly it and well said Phil.
11. Now sold. Thanks for looking! MXR M80 Bass DI+ In a nutshell it's a switchable 2 channel (clean and distortion) bass preamp pedal. It's in very good condition and only ever been used on my board with a mains PSU. As a result it has velcro on the bottom and no rubber feet. These are cheap and readily available from Hotrox should you want them though. Complete with it's box and instructions. Read all about it here: http://www.jimdunlop...uct/m80-bass-di
12. It took a whole 12 minutes to sell Thanks Andy.
13. Hi All, Now sold. MXR M87 Bass Compressor.
14. Quite an article! I love the closing sentiment - "We have not “made it.” We’re making it." Good luck to them I say.
15. Hi Paul, My only point to raise with you is that you would be ordering and buying the bass blind. The CS can be great but they also have their not so good days like everyone else so bear that in mind. As for pricing Doug at Coda Music is definitely a good man to get a quote from as others have mentioned. His price will be the total of what you pay to get it in your hands. They sell a massive amount of CS stuff and also special order loads of instruments all the time so you are in good hands. The 2 tiers are the Team Built and Master Built and depending on how your spec list goes determines which tier you have to go with. Obviously Master Built is a lot more but you can get exactly what you want. Also time factors will come into effect so it may be a case of ordering now or in the new year to get it in time. Good luck and keep us informed. Cheers, Jon
Hello Everyone, Has anybody had anything built by Fender Custom Shop, as opposed to buying a CS made guitar? I have a big birthday next year and I'm toying a little with the idea of getting a bass made for me. I'm in the early stages of this thought at the moment, so I wondered if anyone has any comments on it. I know with reasonable certainty what I want, which is an unlined fretless Precision as they might have been when first produced in 1970 (with a few subtle variations). I suppose another option would be to try to get a genuine one, but they rarely seem to become available. I've always been a Fender player so it could be a dream come true, or a huge disappointment - I can't know which until it's happened I suppose. After import duty, VAT and all that stuff, does anyone know roughly how much a guitar like that would set me back? It would be a big financial commitment for me, so I need to be sure about it. Also, what do you reckon of the argument (for my significant other), that it represents an investment over time?! Cheers Paul
16. Booming bass in a venue is the bain of touring bands and even to the point where this company has come up with a great idea to help combat it: http://flexac.com/the-challenge/
17. Hi All, Now sold but thanks for looking and info left up for future reference. Lehle D.Loop, this is not the MIDI version. It's a high quality fully programmable effects loop switcher with 2 independant true bypass loops. It's got gold plated relays and an in-built high end buffer amp inside it. It's in very good condition as it's only ever been on my board. This means however that it has 2 strips of velcro on the bottom and no rubber feet. These are readily available and cheap from Hotrox should you want some. Complete with it's box and instructions and only selling due to a pedal re-jig and now surplus to requirements.
18. A looker for sure and with the versatile electronics what's not to like! GLWTS Bob.
19.
...When it comes to playing in a band, there's no noticable difference in volume & the 4 ohm cab is only going to make your amp run hotter with no benefits for doing so.
The only reason I can think of is if you have a valve amp that only does 2 or 4 Ohm like Ampeg - It at least gives you options and a chance at keeping the cabinetry down a bit!
20.
I use one of those Dymo label printers and a piece of clear shrink sleeve over the top of it to stop the label from getting worn\peeling off.
+1 to this advice or this: http://www.canford.co.uk/HEAT-SHRINK-SLEEVING-CUSTOM-PRINTED
21.
How well does it work at 9V?
No idea mcnach as only ever used it with it's 12V PSU. Manual just says 12V, no +/- rating at all.
22.
Hi is the di pre or post out?thanx
Hi jassbass, The DI out is definitely Post effects and those filters sound really good straight into Logic! Cheers, Jon
23. Hi jassbass, In all honesty I have never used the XLR out so don't know. The literature is of no use on this subject either! I'll plug it up and let you know ASAP. Thanks, Jon
24.
would look nice with the warmoth logo on headstock.
Hi ebenezer, I just couldn't decide what to do so left it blank!
25.
It does. More accurately, it takes a 10dB increase to be perceived as a doubling of volume, which requires a tenfold increase in power.
Beaten to it by Bill!
