Very nice! If I had the dough, etc! CLICK HERE Jon

My 2p worth: I play the same as you - with a pick and controls to 10. With my US P/J bass it has the growl from the P bass Qtr. Pounder & the Hot jazz bridge stack in it, but maybe not enough to justify modding it in the first place. Guess I learnt the hard way! I have since found, and use a lot, the MXR M80 D.I.+ pre-amp pedal. It has foot switchable clean and dirty sounds and is well capable of doing what you require. It has been called the 'Swiss army Knife' of pre-amps by me & others. Do check it out on your quest as I cannot recommend it enough and it could save you costly non-reversable mods to your basses. Regards, Jon
Hi Jon (and everyone else), I am sorry for the confusion. As can be seen above (lowdown's post) my ebay username is indeed Boombass76. On TalkBass my user name is Kimb76 (as my name is Kim Bang, and I am from 76 :-). Check my TB Profile here... Also, please feel free to check my website, and learn all about who I am. I can assure everyone that this is NOT a scam. Cheers Kim
Hi Kim, Thanks for straightening me out on that. Like I said, no offence intended. Good luck with the sale and if I had £2,000 I'd probably be on a plane tomorrow to look at it! Kind regards, Jon

+1 to all of the above. Go for it if you can!
...All this aside if I had like 1300 burning a hole in my pocket I'd also buy a Matamp GT200 over everything listen in the thread, I think the Mesa is the loudest tube amp I've come across but the Matamp sounds the best and they only cost like £120 to fully retube...
Tayste, you're not helping my MAtamp GAS
a hire company i work for sometimes, had similar problems with their mesa 400+. it sounds ace and is really loud but its the most unreliable piece of sh*t known to man. and the graphic eq looks and feels like its been stuck on with blu tack.
Bet it's the same bloody amp!
right dnt mean to sound thick but what should it have? i know what tubes look like but thats it? anything to listen for while im playing? well as far as cabs go im gonna stick with my 610 hlf, i really like it! i know some people disagree but we'll see im also looking at getting a set of mesa ph210's to use on the smaller gigs we do. basically on the power draw thing what do you plug into? ie do you have to be in your own plug of have you plugged into the same supply in small gigs with the guitarists? (did that make sense?) might have to get a massive rig on the go if it works really well at 2 ohms?! :-) andy
For all the details look HERE at the Mesa website. Off that page - 12 x Power amp valves and 4 x Pre amp valves! As for what to listen for - Once it's connected to a speaker cabinet and powered up it should be quiet when you're not playing/no instrument connected. If there's crackling, whistling or any weird noises then it probably needs new valves in there somewhere. At gigs I always have the amp on it's own socket, just to be sure all will be well. As for your massive rig idea - it will do 2 Ohms all day & night, as it has the dedicated outputs for it! Jon
woh! so pretty loud then! 300rms is gonna be loud enough i think with tube power! the only thing that worries me is the secondhand part and cost of repairs if it goes wrong but i guess theres that with all amps! just like the idea of being covered with a warranty. all you 400+ guys had any problems? also does the amp draw loads of power? my pro 6 does and has created some probs at gigs because of this? andy
Hi Andy, It is as loud as sin and with a couple of sensitive & high powered cabinets it truly is a trouser flapper! I think you're right about the risk part, it's true of any second hand kit. All I can suggest is look and see if it all looks original and all the parts/valves/etc are present and correct. Mine's been solid as a rock and has been gigged hard up & down the country - a true war horse. Apart from regular maintenance it's been grand. As for power consumption I don't know. It has 2 of the biggest transformers I've ever seen in an amp though... Hope that helps a little? Jon
But that's 500 watts peak power. It's said to be nearer 300 RMS. Cheers Mark
I see...it's still frickin loud though! I've never had my one over 4 on the Master Volume, and that's at fairy large gigs, etc For the OP, what about Matamp? I think if I were after a valve beast of an amp they'd be getting a call. Good luck, Jon

whats basschats members fave pickup/preamp combination

My P bass with a SD Qtr. Pounder pickup and SD Jazz Hot Stack bridge unit sounds great through my Sadowsky pre amp pedal and does it for me (at the mo!) -
My apologoes if this is slightly off at a tangent to the original post, but it may be relevant to "Wazz's" & CarazyKiwi's earlier replies. I've been looking to treat myself to a set of Flats and had narrowed the choice down to La Bella or Webstrings/Detroit Bass. I looked at La Bella's catalogue this evening and they say Deep-Talking flats "are unsuitable for thru-body stringing. They suggest a "flexi-core flatwound" as a suitable alternative, but I can't find any such product in the catalogue. Google came up with just the one reference at La Bella. As I've got thru-body stringing with brass saddles and no bridge option, I've e-mailed both La Bella & Webstrings for further info as to suitability. Anyone come across this before or have any recommendations. Thanks folks. Balcro.
I've been told D'Addario Chrome flats and Thomastik Infeld (T.I.) Jazz flats are OK with through body stringing... Not tried it myself though.

If it were me I'd go for 2 x 2x10 cabs for the same reasons WoT pointed out, Cheers, JTB

They're on the Finnbass.com forum!

If money were no object, what bass would you have?
Noisyjon replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
A Sadowsky NYC Vintage 5 String jazz, Black 'n' Maple. That or a Rickenbacker Lemmy Sig. bass! -
IMO & IME If you don't have to have a 4x10 cab, or don't fancy stacking 2 x 2x10 cabs, then I would heartily recommend a modern 1x15 cab or 2...
I wouldn't trust anyone from Denmark Street with my bass. If your close to northern line just go to Camden and visit the gallery, I'm sure the guys would also be flexible with the time etc.
A big +1 to this advice. I would go out of my way to get the work done at a reputable repair shop. There's also Charlie Chandler's Guitar Experience in Hampton Wick, which I would also recommend, if that's any good for you?

Just found this and thought it may be a good deal for a fellow BC'er? CLICK HERE Let us know if you go for it! Cheers, Jon
Does any one have any experiences with these two basses..Apart from the price, what are the differences...What can the tone be compared to...Do they still make the Gibson Les Paul? Any thoughts? thanks
Hi Bubinga5, I have an '03 Gibson Les Paul Standard bass, Honey Sunburst. It is constructed with a Mahogany body and neck with a Maple top and Ebony fingerboard. It has 2 x Thunderbird Plus pickups with 2 x Vol, 2 x Tone & a 3 way switch. It has a 34" scale with a Warwick style bridge and stop bar tailpiece. The sound is HUGE, Not a million miles away from the Thunderbird sound to give you a good reference point. I don't think there's a US LP bass made any more, just the Epiphone LP Special model... Hope that helps, Cheers, Jon

Is everything OK over there? Anyone know? Regards, A curious Jon.
