1. Also I believe the labour involved in stripping the old finish and making the wood ready for the new finish is quite time consuming to do properly.
2. Excellente! It's good to know these things, and there maybe a BC'er looking for a monster such as that! I'm sticking with my 2 x Compacts though
3. Alex, How about a cab with 2 x 3015LF's and 1 or 2 Midrange speakers in, a kind of Double Big One, Possible? I was thinking about the ways of stacking 2 Big One's which made me think of this! Cheers, Jon.
4. Another +1 for new pickups in your Hot Rodded P bass first. I have a Precision with a Jazz P'up and it is wearing Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder P bass and Hot Stack jazz pickups. It cuts through great on Punk, Hard Rock & Metal with it's powerful pickups and sound IME you need the right amp & cabs to chuck out enough volume and definition for the metal stuff, what do you own & use? Regards and welcome to BC, JTB.
5. Name and shame HJ, You could prevent a nightmare for one of us less suspecting BC'ers Cheers, JTB
6. Welcome to band life! I presume you're in an originals band? If so, and IME, That just seems to be the way things are and with a 'like it or lump it' attitude thrown in for good measure. I was recently wondering how bands manage to nurture and grow their songwriting style and skill these days and it must be flippin tough to do it. Could bands such as the Stones, Led Zep, The Who, etc have existed today the way things are? Anyway back on track, I'd put a beady eye out and see what else is available in your situation. JTB
7. Try 2 x Compacts, I highly recommend it!
8.
My rig, really happy with this so far
OMG Raggy... Nice setup there Fella, bet it's good and loud! Cheers, JTB
9.
Hi Jon, As the new owner of my SA450, I would be interested in your thoughts/experiences when using it with your Compacts. In particular, how it compares with your old heavy stuff!
Hi Mr.T, To be honest the 2 x Compacts with the SA450 is a great match for me. They do sound slightly different from my old Boogie cabs but I think it was just me getting used to the new speakers. I play in a band with 2 x Marshall's and a LOUD drummer and have the Gain & Volume at 12 o'clock, EQ flat, VLE off and the VPF at about 10 o'clock. The sound is all there and sounding great IMO! To summarize I don't miss the heavier cabs at all and still get the sounds I need, at the volume required. Hope that helps, Jon.
10. I use a MXR M-80 DI+ for a bit of grit/oomph, it's a lovely sounding unit.
11. Hi Clarky, This would be a sensitive subject with me and I agree with you. If it were me I'd have it out with them, air my grievance and if there's no satisfactory explanation/conclusion/outcome then I'd walk plain and simple. Respectfully, JTB
12.
the owner james dunn is a nice bloke
Owner? I thought the Bass Cellar is part of the Music Ground empire isn't it?
13. You couldn't make it up with some of the priceless cack that comes out of some people's mouths! Maybe we should start a thread for these type of emails to show other Basschatters what goes on?! You don't need them Mate, and as mentioned earlier keep practising and find another good band who will appreciate you. Regards, Jon.
14. Slightly off track but does anyone have any experience with a non-Fender '51 P bass type, i.e. Shuker, Bacchus, etc? Are they completely different beasts or a good recreation/interpretation? Regards, JTB
15. Oh my  Thank goodness I'm skint. Good luck with the sale and to whoever gets to own her!
16. Alex, I found this page on Roqsolid's site: Barefaced Compact cover link Is this something you set up? If so is there a hole for the handle do you know? Regards, Jon.
17.
...FYI, jonthebass played it last week so hopefully he will attest to the condition of the combo...
Hi Clarky, Sorry Mate, just seen this Yes it was a blinder of an amp and in good nick!!! Cheers, Jon.
18. A quality modded 55 P bass, Mesa Boogie M6 Carbine. edit:forgot the amp!
19. Hi There, Nice cab and welcome to the forum from an ex-Ruislipite! Good luck with the sale, Jon
20. I've heard good things about, and been recommended highly, the Mesa Boogie M6 Carbine. Bass Direct are doing them for a good price at the mo...
21. I had a slightly different problem in that I moved into a 2nd floor flat. The 400+ in a lightweight case (SKB, etc) isn't too bad but the cabs....another kettle of ball games entirely! I ended up selling 'em and getting some lightweight units. In your position I'd keep the amp downstairs, as previously suggested, and get some lighter weight speaker cabs, Barefaced Big One or Vintage would be good with the Boogie methinks! Cheers, Jon
22. Hi OBBM, Your Muggins theory is probably spot on for 1 & 3 but number 2 will be done by whatever powers up in that frequency range in 2012. I think it's going to become a Europe wide harmonized channel for mobile phones IIRC. It'll be interesting to see how the manufactures will wind down production of equipment in the (soon to be) defunct frequency ranges. I reckon I have a sneaking suspision of the answer! JTB
Very interesting. It raises at least three questions in my mind. 1. How are retailers going to justify continuing selling equipment that will be illegal in 3 years time? 2. How do they plan to enforce it considering the sheer amount of wireless equipment currently in use? 3. Who has bare the cost of replacing one's own equipment? I suspect the answer to 3 is muggins. Will we start to see a flood of Ch69 equipment on Ebay aimed at those not in the know?
23. News just in! Channel 69 (854-862 MHz) is definitely to be cleared by 2012 so we will be losing that channel. It's replacement is to be Channel 38 (606-614 MHz). See JFMG's News page about itHERE
24.
... Get the geetards to turn down...
Good advice if they'll do it! I am another who would suggest an amp & cab setup to help get more volume.
25. I'd Love to hear it through a couple of big cabs, but what would realistically suit/handle this kind of amp? Im thinking a pair of Barefaced Vintage cabs - woof woof!
