1. If you don't mind me asking - what did it cost "all in" for this project (i.e. the bass, all the work & parts/paint) It's a great bass you've ended up with and I'm well impressed. Cheers, Jon
2. Nice one Mike. Great bass and great playing. Jon
3.
Might when the sound gives the rest of my band internal bleeding and we can't gig any more ...
Wanna know a secret? For a minute, way back when, I nearly ordered 2 x Big Ones to put under the Boogie Can you even imagine? The only thing that stopped me was lack of storage space! JTB

Very nice Clarky! Do you like the Wizard A51 Stealth pickup? I'm loving the one in Sid. Cheers, JTB
6. Nice looking rig, wish I had the space to buy it and keep it! Have a look HERE Let us know if you go for it! Cheers, Jon.
7. oh of course dear boy I've heard great reviews of this particular model and is where I'm coming from. Maybe, just maybe, though a little mojo may come from Pino's signiature on the back of the headstock?!
8.
...If you retube you'll need to rebias the amp which is not something I'd attempt!...
In the Bass 400+ manual it says "Amplifier bias has been permanently set at the factory and should never need adjustment" That should help to make things a little easier! edit:quote correction
9. Great thread you're running here and great pictures. Thanks for doing this for us all to see. Hope all's going well still? Cheers, Jon.
10. Just awesome. Not mine but has induced a bout of GAS in me! Thank goodness I don't have the readies or it would be mine. 11. ooh, I wouldn't mind trying one out. Dunno about 2 and a half grand though...
12. Defo sunburst and maple, here's mine! Jon
13. Hi Ken, Yet another who's been reading lots of your posts over on TB. Welcome and enjoy our very British (eccentric?) take on all things bass! Regards, Jon
14.
barefaced vintage is catching my eye.
I sold my Boogie cabs (4x10 + 1x15) to get a pair of Barefaced Compacts. They certainly do the trick and sound great with my Booie 400+. The big plus is the weight...I carried them both together, one in each hand, up 2 flights of stairs last week! Not the most comfortable but managable. JTB
15.
oooohhh, Two vintaged compacts would sit so nicely under my Fafner.
You would not be disappointed
16.
...we have always listed retail prices for all our gear, we know there is always room to negotiate hence on every page of our site we say that we will match any price seen on the net...
That's my experience with The Gallery and there's always cracking advice to be had with any contact with them. A big +1 from me. Cheers, Jon
17. Well here's a quick and not so good photo for you all to see... I cranked it up with my Stingray and the sound is absolutely fantastic! Rock and Roll! JTB
18. Hi Guys, Chris - Thanks for your thoughts and extensive reply. That's a great description and it sounds like a great amp, Alex - I'm swaying to ultra lightweight and the Shuttle 6 is on my list to try for sure as I want the 2 speakons and lots of headroom, Clarky - I may well take up your kind offer, could we connect a Compact cab to your amp OK?, Dannybouy - I have a MXR M80 so can get plenty of distortion (mild to wild!) off that if needs be. Thanks Guys, Jon
19. Thanks for your thoughts Clarky. I'm swaying towards ultra lightweight at the moment but I will have a look at the Mark Bass R500 now... Cheers, JTB.
20. Hi All, I'm looking for a lighter weight amp to go with my cabs (2 x 1x15" Barefaced Compact cabs) and an amp that will offer a different tonal palette to the Boogie. I am just so stumped by choice, I don't know which way to go so thought I'd throw it out for some help and advice. I play Punk, Rock & Metal with a Pick and use a variety of basses (P, J, P/J, Stingray & Gibson LP) and I'm not too fussed about having a Valve pre-amp. The only conditions I want to impose is that the amp must have 2 x Speakon sockets on it and not be too big & heavy. I've whittled my list down to these 4 at the mo: Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0, Gallien Krueger 1001RB-ii, Aguilar AG500-SC, Mesa Boogie M6 Carbine. So far I've only actually tried an Aguilar AG500-SC and really liked it, the GK and GB I have only read about from the very good comparison threads on here and the Mesa I have mostly read about on the Talkbass forum. What say you about my choices? Is there a cracking amp I don't know about? Experiences of said amps? Any and all thoughts & ramblings much appreciated, Thanks, Jon.
21.
I'm hoping you don't need another Speakon on yours as you raised that issue! Something else to add to the website... Alex
No no, I'm fine with the Boogie but I've been looking at some lightweight amps and realised this. It seems some amps don't have 2 separate Speaker/Speakon outputs. Jon
22. WOW - nice rig and with cases, now there's a deal! I canny afford it but good luck to whoever snags this monster. JTB edit:Spelling...again!
23. Hi Alex - sorry to hijack this thread slightly - will hopefully be getting some pics up tonight of said stack!
You can have another Speakon if you ask nicely and pay £5 more. But no-one so far has needed one so minimalism seems the best route for the standard model! Most (in fact all bar Jon so far) are using a single Compact with an amp that is stable down to 4 or 2 ohms. The high sensitivity means you don't need to suck every last watt out of your amp even if you're in a seriously loud band and an 8 ohm load is easier on your amp so it'll run cooler. Alex
24. You're right in that 2 Compacts will be a 4 ohm load for the amp. The amp's minimum of 4 ohms is regardless of whether it's 1 or 2 cabs that present that load. E.g. an Ampeg 8x10 cab is 4 ohm, so that's it for the amp or as you have pointed out you can use a pair of 8 ohm cabs. Hope that helps? Also a quick note on the Barefaced Compact cabs - They only have one socket on them so your amp will need 2 speaker output sockets, unless Alex offers a 2 speakon option to daisy chain the cabinets (?) Cheers, JTB
Sorry to ask this - because I know somewhere the information I need already exists... but I couldn't find/understand it. The Compact is an 8ohm cab right? If I buy a 300W amp with a minimum impedance of 4ohm - does that mean I have to have two Compacts (taking the impedance to 4ohm)? Or does it mean I can't use two 4ohm cabs (which would give 2ohm)? i.e. Is 8ohm higher than the 4ohm minimum, or is it lower? Cheers.
25. OOOOOHHH YEEAAHHHHH, Mission control My 2 vintageised compacts have landed They made it this morning as promised. I'll get pics and comments up ASAP, probably Monday now folks. JTB
