1. Hello Claire and Welcome. I grew up in Ruislip! Keep going with the fast stuff and you'll crack it. Cheers, Jon
2.
Sounds really good with a Bergantino NV610.
Hi OBBM, What do you reckon about these new Orange amps being made with PCB's rather than the old turret board & point to point wiring - Any significant difference to the sound do you reckon? I was reading an American site waxing lyrical about the difference, but does it make that much of a difference? Regards, JTB
3. I would love to buy this off you, but just don't have the funds
4. I would go for a Shure Beta 52 kick drum mic and the D.I. option. I've heard stunning results on an Ashdown 8x10 cab in a gig situation. JTB edit: GAK and Andertons do them for £165.
5.
...Would like to compare the 400w Hiwatt against my 400+
That's what I wanted to do, as I have a Mesa Bass 400+ too
6. Went into the Bass Cellar on Denmark Street today to try out a Hiwatt 400W bass amp and guess what...the only one they had in the shop (and the whole of Denmark Street it would seem) would not power up! I actually wanted to try the 200W Hiwatt bass amp but there wasn't one in anywhere. Any idea where I could hear a 200W Hiwatt and/or an Orange AD200B Mk.3? BTW the 400W amp head was a lot bigger than I imagined! Cheers, JTB
7.
I'm sure I saw Sid Viscious' bass in Denmark St last week... in the place with the recorders from Abbey Road in the doorway...?
I may be in town later today, in that area, so may have a ganders!
8. ...and the VAT! Isn't the rough rule of thumb for Import Duty & VAT to add 22% onto the item & shipping total? JTB edit: Like your Fender Jazz Special by the way, very Duff McKagan!
9. My observations are this: I once played my Stingray through a Behringer amp & cabs at the local reheasal room and it sounded awful. No mids, VERY trebley and just clanky sounding. Like I say, Awful. Was not impressed and a little depressed from that! In contrast my P bass sounds fine through that exact setup. Anyway on Sunday just gone I took my amp (Mesa Boogie 400+) and powered her up with the Behringer cabs & the Stingray. Wow what a difference - it was sounding how it should and absolutly sitting in the mix perfectly. I guess this is a good example of Stingray's being amp sensitive. JTB
10. aah Monz, don't say things like that! Never heard the Hiwatt bass amps in action but I love the spec and look of the 200W version and you've just nudged that GAS attack a little closer JTB
11. I'd sell it and use the dough how I needed to then. Just my opinion like JTB
12. Hi Zoe, Thanks for the kind words. If you're after one a good place to look is HERE at Ishibashi's used section. Only bummer is that you have to have it shipped from Japan with all the associated headaches. That said they are meant to be easy to deal with and do a great job. Cheers, JTB
13. Lovely bass there Tony and have a bump on me. Good luck with the sale, JTB
14. Nice bass Mate. I've got a Honeyburst one and they are awesome sounding beasts. Does yours have the TB (Thunder Bird) Plus pickups? Good luck with the sale & welcome to the forum, Jon.
15. Hi All, Bit of an update below. I bought this modified beauty off of our very own Clarky a while ago and thought I'd share some pictures of it. The sound and playability of it is just ridiculous. I bought it as a 'banger' bass for practicing, etc and it's turned out to be one of my favourites It has been modified with a Badass 2 bridge and the icing on the cake that are the T.I. flatwound strings. I've never encountered the T.I. flats before and stone me are they good and nice to play! The bass itself is very nice to play as the action is just right. It has plenty of chips and bangs on the body but the neck is near totally perfect and unmarked. Anyway here it is as I got it - The mid '90's Crafted In Japan Fender Precision bass A.K.A. Sid: UPDATE: I recently managed to buy a Wizard Area 51 Stealth pickup off of our very own tonyf (thanks Mate!) and put it in this bass. WOW - it really does sound how they describe it on their website "The Stealth has a full range of tones, bassy and deep right through to crisp and bright, this makes them suitable for most styles of music, all provided with a little more, imagine a standard pickup on steroids!!" Here it is now: The reason for this change is that I ended with 3 P type basses with SD Quarter Pounders in (!) and wanted more of a spread of P bass tones. So over time I have now changed them to: 1 with a SD Vintage, 1 with a Wizard Area 51 Stealth and 1 with a P/J setup of SD Quarter Pounder & a SD Jazz Hot Stack. Cheers, Jon.
16.
...Jesus H Christ, what was he putting through it to blow one of those?...
I believe it was an Ampeg SVT2 Pro with distortion pedals and turned flat out He doesn't play/gig any more, thank f*ck!
17. I'm off work on Friday...
18. WOW - that's great info and I will check the videos out later on. Thanks BlackElan and see you around. JTB
19. Helter Skelter - The Beatles, Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf, Oh Well - Fleetwood Mac.
20. It's such a personal decision and can be a tough one. I leant my Mesa Boogie 2x15", 800W, cab to a mate once and he blew one of the speakers as he needed to 'give it some grunt' as he put it! Thank goodness I didn't need it soon after and he paid for the repair. If it was a gig where I followed and needed it I would have been stuffed. Another time we were the openers at a heavy metal all dayer and all the bands on the first half of the day wanted to use my amp & cab. I didn't want to put it through the mill like that so said I couldn't hang around and politely told them No. From my experiences it will always be a 'Sorry, No' from me on this subject at a gig. JTB
21. Hello Jason and welcome to our forum. I'm interested in the spec of your Newstead Elan as I know next to nothing about them, any pictures, specs, etc you can share with us? 'Cheers' Jon.
22.
I need to check whether it will fit in the bridge position of my Yammy. If it will, I'll have it.
PM'd JTB
23. I am loving the feel and sound of Ernie Ball regular slinky strings on my Precision bass at the mo. JTB
