Hey guys. Here's a video from a session I did last week with a band I've recently got together. I'm quite into jazz fusion. Hope you enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBVZfjMAVIo

Dang, that was silly of me! Hopefully this works. . .

A friend has asked me if he could sell this bass for anything. I don't recognise it (although perhaps it's obvious. . . ). Does anybody know what the make/model is and if it's worth anything? Cheers

Though I'd share this with folks here, I've not found another post talking about this. A few months ago, I was keen on buying a volume pedal. The EB Volume pedal seemed to be the only one to go for because they feel very nice and they've got brilliant build quality. I needed something that would work with both my Active and Passive basses. EB do a 25k and a 250K pedal to suit either, but none does both active and passive equally well. After a bit of research I found Justin Butler, a musician from Nashville who basically rips out the guts of the EB Pedals and replaces them with his own active circuits (needs 9v power), basically a buffer for the output and a buffer for the tuner out so that there's no tone loss. The thing that was appealing to me was that it has a variable impedance knob, allowing me to use both active and passive guitars on it. There's an active/passive switch, basically allowing you to turn it back into the normal unpowered EB Pedal if you wanted. It was slightly more expensive (think it worked out to be about £170 inc shipping), but I had a bit of spare cash from some gigs at the time. It took about 2 months to get here (He's pretty busy), but it's finally arrived and I'm very happy with it! As a bonus, it glows blue in active mode! Very cool. . .
I see from your sig that you have two TRB's, that's all the punch you need right there, just a mather of getting a nice compressor to help a bit (the MXR is a great choice). You could also try and adjust the internal trim pots on your TRB preamp, it can give your bass a little bit of extra punch. Everything else can be achieved with EQ. ...but are you really looking for an excuse to buy a new bass? If that's the case i would say, yeah go ahead, you really need a Tobias to sound like that and just in case get a Stingray too!
Haha, this made me laugh! Yes, and excuse for a new bass is always lovely, but your right, the TRBs are hefty punchy. I'm actually selling my old one just now as I really don't need 2 TRBs (Shameless plug! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/184881-fs-1988-yamaha-trb-6p-l1100/page__hl__trb%206p ). I've never played around with compression outside of the studio, so I'm quite keen on experimenting with it a bit live. I like the look of the MXR bass compressor.
This guy is a top bassist. To get that punchy tone he uses a tc electronic impact twin, which is an interface that you plug into when recording. They are great bits of kit and they sell for around £250. Hope this answers your question.
Ah, thank you sir!

Aye - It certainly is. Would a MusicMan give just as punchy a sound?
-
Aye, It's ridiculously bendy! Maybe that's his secret. . . Cheers for the quick response! Not too familiar with Tobias, but it's time for me to swat up on their basses!

Just came across this guy on YouTube. He's got one of the fattest punchy tones I've ever heard. Looks like he's got a pretty chuncky soapbar for the pickup. Does anybody have any idea what bass he's playing, or any guesses as to what the Pickup or Preamp must be? Here he is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRdRSNQdWMM&list=UUnFlD8ZtEAbxRL95jRSuDVA&index=1

ok we can have a 1, 4, 5. Is a minor 1, 7, 4 correct?
gstirrat replied to iconic's topic in Theory and Technique
To a certain extent, yeah. There are plenty of modal tunes, especially in Jazz, that don't necessarily relate to a conventional major scale, but most popular music is diatonic and fits nicely into the chords of a major key. -

I'd still consider that to have no sharps or flats, and relate it to it's major key, C. Therefor I'd just call it 6, 5, 2. The tonality (major or minor) of each chord you listed is correct to those chord numbers. Make sense? -
