This crossed my mind, Mick. You can't beat a clean fretboard.

The bass came with rounds which sounded great but I do love LaBella flats on an ebony board. New set arrived today so on they went and set up. Everything I wanted from this instrument and more. Delicious, fat, warm tone from it. One happy chappy. So you see, Santa does exist after all.

Broadband duly restored, even if the wiring for it has all but been condemned (full fibre to be investigated), and now I have recovered from opening the case, here is my new Overwater headless Progress. Feels completely at home in my hands and is a joy to play. Martin nailed the neck profile I wanted and I do love a headless bass. Thanks to Martin Lee, Chris May and everyone else involved in the building of this marvellous instrument. We will be very happy together for a long time. Not quite Lauder so I’ll substitute so I don’t die before I get old.

Now you’re all going to tell me you want to see it. 😄 Sadly my internet is down just now but as soon as it’s back I’ll put up some photos. That might be a couple of days. However, it is fantastic and feels right at home in my hands. Mick, MM Stingray 62, will confirm how good it is as he saw it before I did.

Friday is the pickup day. 😎

Yes, stunning. Looks like you're going to get yours before I get mine, Mick.
-
Yum. Looking fantastic.

Enjoying this progress.

Oooo, that's going to look good. Glad to see some movement on it.

I'm like a little boy waiting for Christmas. Just a pity I'm very, very far from being a little boy. 😄

Bass is through finishing and curing this week ready for final assembly next week. Here's a little tease of the finished top. Now radio silence until it's in my sweaty hands.

I'll second Newtone Strings. They made me up a batch of ten sets of the gauges I wanted in DBE. Very quick and easy transaction. Takes them about two weeks to make up a custom order.

Something a little different on a bass. I used two phased loops in the Flashback delay to create a drone and played the bass with the Ebow over the top of the loops.

Next is into sanding and finishing. Martin is just finishing the profile of the back of the neck first. All paid for now so not long.

No indication.

Any updates on progress? (pun intended)

Now the excitement starts. Work is coming on apace. Quilted mahogany front and ash body.

@snorkie635 Build times are certainly quicker. I've never got on well with filter pre amps either and already having experience of their instruments it was the best choice.

Martin assures me the woodwork is coming on well.

I am privileged enough to have commissioned a new build with Overwater. My first was a Scott Devine Signature in 2014. This one will be a headless Progress with some custom options. I like a 16.5mm string spacing and Chris has been able to source a Hipshot bridge/tuner system for it as their own bridge/tuner is specifically 18mm spacing. Bridge pickup will be 30mm from the bridge and a flat back to the neck, which I find very comfortable. First pic through is the face wood, quilted mahogany. How good is that going to look with a finish on it?
-
Excellent. I'm eagerly awaiting the start of my new build with them.

Something a little different. This is how I use a bass guitar and some rather lovely effects.
