My guess is: 1. 7string has died and/or is unable to use the internet right now 2. he's having too much fun with his "thing" to bother to talk to us.
If it's number one then maybe it's a coffin.

Yeh, but that's a Piranean Mountain Dog that is standing beside the box So it's plenty big enough for a skyhook.

Don't even think about a fretless S2, Rich. Just order one, they are fantastic. I scoop all the mids out of mine and it has a lovely "loose" sound to it when played over the end of the neck. I use flats which I don't like on a wooden board but they work really well on the phenolic.

Some lovely basses there. The original Buzzards really are amazing basses. Andy, what is the face wood on your KB 5? Lovely basses.

When I visited the factory recently Dawn informed me it was the S2000 that turned so many people on to Status basses. With the promised new models next year maybe that S2000 reissue will happen. They were keeping their cards very close to their chests.
[ Just to clear up a couple of things here - firstly, can I refer you back to my longer post earlier on in this discussion - these prototypes should be seen for what they are; a work in progress - and are only a first draft that probably wouldn't have been seen had it not been for Frankfurt... And to confirm - yes the body as you say is slightly too big - infact it's the 5 string version meant to be coupled with a 35" scale neck and has been scaled down for the four string! Bodies will also be more contoured in the final versions. My main concern with the first prototypes was to get the electronics, timber, sound and playability right - cosmetics will be sorted out by the time we get to production.. I have been working on revisions since before we went to Frankfurt last month and we should have the second set of prototypes ready within a month or so and either myself or Stu will post some pictures when we are happy with them... Thanks, Chris
And this is why Overwater are a successful business. The designer is listening to people. Keep up the good work Chris. I look forward to the finished products.

Great news EH. Now you can really enjoy the site.

How fast is your internet connection? Sounds like they might be taking a long time to download. If you wait they will probably come in eventually and then you can click on them and they will come up on the full screen. Problem solved? It really isn't an irritating site. It's a great resourse for Status basses.
why must the pictures on that website be so irritating i wonder?
If you mean small scroll your mouse over them and click on them. It's amazing what then happens!!!

The mass market tends to go for what the mass market wants and that does tend to be a bit conservative sometimes. Ask why so many manufacturers play it safe with P and J basses. Even high end builders do the same. How many custom luthiers have a J model in their protfolio? These designs are not perhaps to my taste, but then I tend to fall for the higher end basses these days, having tasted it with two Status basses. I do hope they are successful though. Risks have to be taken or the world doesn't move on.

The old TRB range are good basses. I have the TRB6II which I bought for £475 about 8 years ago, if that's of any use. Jazz basses are about 38mm at the nut, so 40mm might be getting towards p-bass dimensions. That extra couple of mm makes all the difference, for me anyway. Jazz necks are a little too narrow for me.

Like Bobby K I don't use the mags too much but they can add a bit more depth to the sound of the bridge pickup. On their own the mags sound not unlike a fretless Jazz with the bias towards the bridge pickup.

And just make sure the quiters don't steal the gigs from you!!!
Slightly OT, but which folding trolley did you buy off amazon. I'd like to get one to carry my cab, but some of them look really flimsy. How much did you pay?
I bought a foldable trolley from Homebase which is quite rugged. Only cost £25 and will carry quite a weight on it. It's similar to this on Amazon.

I'm a bit board with jazz basses these days but this is definitely an axception. Great job.
Nah, not spray cans. Paintbrushes! Careful though, those watercolour paints can be a bitch to apply.
Well, it won't be going anywhere near water so watercolours should be OK. Especially if you cover it with sticky back plastic.

Upgrading the hardware on my Yamaha BB414 Opinions needed!
BassBus replied to CraigPlaysBass's topic in Build Diaries
Like anything in life, if it looks too good to be true it probably is. With the machine heads, the cheap ones will just be painted metal. The paint will likely wear away over time. The expensive ones are Gotohs which are a very reputable brand, one of the best I think. If you put the cheap ones on your Yamaha you might actually be downgrading the quality of parts. I own a Yamaha BB1100s from the 80s and the parts on that have been just fine. Your bass is the passive modern equivalent so parts should be good. If you upgrade spend the money, it'll pay off. A lot of people go for Badass bridges as replacements as you have linked. Machine heads, go for Gotoh or even Schaller: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SCHALLER-BASS-MACHIN...4b36483fec9df85 The best advice I can give is don't scimp on the price, you get what you pay for. Buy cheap you will get poorer quality. Spend decent money and you will buy the quality. Good luck. Graham -

Ooh, I say. Simple but very beautiful. Lovely colour.

Well I wouldn't say they were "plasticky". I suppose it depends on what kind of sound you like. If you are a fan of a crystal clear, hifi-ish sort of sound then you will like these basses. If you are a fan of more traditional P bass sort of sound then they might not be your cup of tea. As for price, they have been fetching between £300 and £375 on ebay of late. They don't hang around for long. Just depends on individual taste.
