Like Bobby K I don't use the mags too much but they can add a bit more depth to the sound of the bridge pickup. On their own the mags sound not unlike a fretless Jazz with the bias towards the bridge pickup.

And just make sure the quiters don't steal the gigs from you!!!
Slightly OT, but which folding trolley did you buy off amazon. I'd like to get one to carry my cab, but some of them look really flimsy. How much did you pay?
I bought a foldable trolley from Homebase which is quite rugged. Only cost £25 and will carry quite a weight on it. It's similar to this on Amazon.

I'm a bit board with jazz basses these days but this is definitely an axception. Great job.
Nah, not spray cans. Paintbrushes! Careful though, those watercolour paints can be a bitch to apply.
Well, it won't be going anywhere near water so watercolours should be OK. Especially if you cover it with sticky back plastic.

Upgrading the hardware on my Yamaha BB414 Opinions needed!
BassBus replied to CraigPlaysBass's topic in Build Diaries
Like anything in life, if it looks too good to be true it probably is. With the machine heads, the cheap ones will just be painted metal. The paint will likely wear away over time. The expensive ones are Gotohs which are a very reputable brand, one of the best I think. If you put the cheap ones on your Yamaha you might actually be downgrading the quality of parts. I own a Yamaha BB1100s from the 80s and the parts on that have been just fine. Your bass is the passive modern equivalent so parts should be good. If you upgrade spend the money, it'll pay off. A lot of people go for Badass bridges as replacements as you have linked. Machine heads, go for Gotoh or even Schaller: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SCHALLER-BASS-MACHIN...4b36483fec9df85 The best advice I can give is don't scimp on the price, you get what you pay for. Buy cheap you will get poorer quality. Spend decent money and you will buy the quality. Good luck. Graham -

Ooh, I say. Simple but very beautiful. Lovely colour.

Well I wouldn't say they were "plasticky". I suppose it depends on what kind of sound you like. If you are a fan of a crystal clear, hifi-ish sort of sound then you will like these basses. If you are a fan of more traditional P bass sort of sound then they might not be your cup of tea. As for price, they have been fetching between £300 and £375 on ebay of late. They don't hang around for long. Just depends on individual taste.

They were were an all wood version of the Status Series II/Series 2000. HAd all the Status hardware put on a Washburn manufactured body. They are lovely basses and I just happen to have a black one which I might be willing to sell

Well I don't mind my Korean Spectorcore being alongside alanbass1's beauty. Strung with TI Jazz Flats and it gets used a lot in jazz. Lovely neck as well.
-
I don't have any experience with Status Jazz necks but I do with S2/S2000 necks and I love them. The jazz necks should be built to the specs of the original. Rob Green can always add a tint to the process or even paint it a colour of your choice.
OTPJ or BassBus..... you chaps are in the know,so, I was wondering can you have leds fitted to a really old status? (mine can be seen on musicman porn thread) is it a daft idea? will it spoil it? love the idea of a "red" xmas tree!! ps dont like status page thats why I ask here!! BC rules!!! Witterth
I know a number of people have had LEDs retro fitted so it should be possible. I know Sims can retro fit and I'm sure an enquiry to Status will let you know where they stand. Rich OTPJ might be able to enlighten you further.

Thank you kind sir. Didn't think it was that simple.

Forgive my ignorance. Could someone explain how to chain two speaker cabs with this amp as it only seems to have one speaker out.
I've been playing since October and can't seem to stop using my ring finger, partly because i can't see a problem and I don't seem to be getting any problems. I'm not playing particularly fast at the moment. Do people think I'll develop problems later on if I carry on this way?
As was said earlier, if it works for you then stick with it. As far as I can see (and I bow to other's greater experience) not using the ring finger is more about reducing the stretch at the top of the neck. That's certainly why I play that way. You might have bigger hands that can cope with the extra stretch. Work with what feels right for you and maybe consider trying another approach if you develop problems.

That's the best sounding micro amp I've heard so far. Love the scooped mids. What settings did you use Andy?
-
If you're having problems with feedback why not look at the Acoustic Image Contra. Small but has a lot of power, 400w. It has a down firing 10" which uses the floor to spread the sound. Players use them in big bands and everyone in the band can hear the bass fine. The Contra also has a switchable notch/low pass filter which helps combat any feedback problem. I've been using one for years now and the guys in the jazz band in particular have no problem hearing the bass and no problem with feedback. I've also used it in a country band with amped guitars and loud drums and on one stage you could feel the stage vibrate with the bass.
