Schaller Strap locks... and how to fit them properly!!
BassBus replied to EBS_freak's topic in Accessories and Misc
Could I just add one comment regarding "drilling out holes". A friend of mine who builds furniture made an interesting point about drilling out holes. When you drill the hole out you take all that wood away. Using a bradawl leaves the wood there but provides a guide hole for the screw and the wood will settle in round it. Otherwise great, clear instructions. -
The Tokai will be a nice bass. I have a Jazz Sound from the same year, lovely bass.

I have a Spectorcore fretless which I love. Granted it has a mag pup but I never use that. Lovely acousticy sound with TI Jazz Flats on it. I use it in jazz quite a lot and it fits that format just fine for me. I think they retail around £600. I got mine for £349 from Sound Control, remember them.

Any DB string should do for CR4Ms as long as they have a steel core. Without that they won't work with the mag pups. Helicore Hybrids, Helicore Orchestral, Pirastro Flexocors, and Pirastro Obligatos seem to have been used a lot. EDIT: Strike the Obligatos unless you don't want to use the mag pups. They have a synthetic core. You can find lots of info at NS EUB Megathread and NS Design WAV4 megathread part II if you can be bothered to waid through them.

This sounds like excuses that have been used by other music mags that have folded in the past. If they can't get mags out to subscribers before the shops that's pretty poor service. We are, after all, the people who give them regular income. What future for BGM???
Anyway, I hope you find the swine that took an axe to them statii!
Huh!!! What a Philistine.
Heh! That's how basses are meant to be, Ste. They balance better and you don't knock into stuff all the time. Perfection!
Now there's a man who knows what a bass should look like.

Are things OK at BGM? Delivery seems to be getting later and later every month. Good to know it is out there somewhere.

Yes, fantastic collection there Rich. See you went for the Genz Benz. How are you finding it? The S2s really are the best lookers. The myrtle face is a work of art. Rob chose that so well.
-
Oh Rich, how could you show such obcene pictures. I think the moderators should pull you up on that one. But seriously, I am green with envy. Is there a bass on the market that Nick does not own. Just some beauties there. Lucky guys.

I don't know anywhere else in Glasgow but if you can get it through to Edinburgh, Stringers will sort that out for you. The Violin Shop will do a good job though. I bought my DB there and had no problems with it and beautifully set up.

These Benson basses are amazing for the price. My nephew has one and I didn't expect much from it but it plays remarkably well. Have fun with the mods.

That's really useful, Jake. At least your comments have made me go and check my left hand/arm positioning. I have had problems with my left shoulder before I dropped the elbow down. Like you say what ever suits you. Then again I won't be out playing as much as you.
-
I'm not sure I'd agree with Jake about keeping the elbow up. That might work for you Jake but I found that just intruduces so much tension to the shoulder = problems. Drop the elbow down and be aware of any tension in any part of your body. If you feel tense anywhere try and work out some way of relaxing.

eBay Negative Feedback Suspiciously Removed?
BassBus replied to benebass's topic in General Discussion
Don't forget the option of Watchdog. If they have enough complaints about any organisation then they follow it up. Ebay has featured on the program before. -
+1 on the Jazz. The chap I just got my Warwick from has one up for £250, never played and with a Badass bridge and Quarter Pounders in it and in a hard case. Also has TI flats on and sounds superb, I'm actually quite tempted myself!
Everyone raves about the Squire VM Jazz. To have one with TI flats on it would be a great combination.

Just bought a Markbass Super Booster from Dan in probably the quickest deal I've had on the net. A gentleman to deal with and the pedal is just great. Thanks a lot Dan.
-
Can't speak for the synth pedal but I've just bought dangee's Super Booster. Such simple controls and a wealth of sound possibilities. I've tried basses through BDDI, Fishman, Zoom. Much as I can get a great EQed sound through my Zoom, it's not easy to adjust it on the hop. This is so easy and gives me anything from natural sound of the bass to lovely scooped mids. Yum.
-
And now there's a new kid on the block. Markbass Super Booster. Nice simple control layout and a great sound from it.
-
And no mention of Jaco Pastorius yet. I think he is a case in point. Buzz comments on the sound spectrum that the human ear can hear and it could be argued that Jaco's bass was EQed around the mids. Yes we do like melodies in higher registers. Not many basso profundos at the top of the charts. The bass needs to go where ever people want to take it. One tune that comes to mind is Weather Report's 'A Remark You Made'. Jaco played that lovely lead line but them seemlessly goes back to holding down the bottom end. Probably the only reason we don't have any young bass heroes is that they just don't get signed cause that type of music doesn't always sell bucket loads. There arn't many young guitar heroes either, except maybe Matt Belamy. Same reason, not fashionable. The good players are out there who can take the bass forward but as is the nature of the instrument, and its players, they don't always hit you in the face.
The interesting thing is that my pupils always have a good choice of reasonably priced, well set up basses to choose from, LOL!
I've heard a lot of excuses in my time and that's one of them.

PPHHEEWW!!! Some lovely basses you've had there Rich. The Statiis are the best though.
