1. Lovely, lovely bass. Well done. Get some Status Hot Wires on it and they should make it sound even better. The J pickups have a lovely crystal clear sound. Interesting with the eq upgrade.
2. I can't but you'll know of James Durand (durandassi, jd on statii.com) he's a big goodfellow fan. He might help if he's around or pm him.
3. That's a great looking bass. How does it sound?
4. To be honest a good one of these is worth nearer £350-400 and that was in the good times.
5. Nice find, Rich. Just good clean, simple lines. What is it you don't like about the Elixirs?
6. Somebody please buy this, it's too tempting at that price. Much better value than the one on e***.
7.
Can you read over your side of the country ?
Blimey! Things are coming on in the east. You've even learnt to spell. Right that's enough of that.
8.
Are Thomastik the most highly regarded strings, as i may change them too. Andy
I don't think you can go wrong with Thomastic strings. I've had Spirocores on my DB for a long time now and they have a nice warm tone. DBs are very natural instruments and different strings might sound different on different basses. Pick ups certainly do. My BP100 sounded awful on my cheap Antoni but doesn't sound too bad on my current Stentor. It's just an expensive way to experiment though.
9. The BP100 is very toppy. Might need a bit of EQing. I use a Shadow SH950 which has been great with no problems. I did use a Realist for a while but that gave up the ghost. As far as sound is concerned, if you are going to amp the bass I would think size won't matter. It becomes another instrument when it is amped up.
10.
*Shhh* Graham! He's around selling his KB at the moment Only difference is that I don't "BUY HIGH, SELL LOW!"
Sorry. I'll keep quiet.
11. The spectre of Mike Prince??? I'll just get my coat...
12. Someday I'll have a fretted Status S2 with a rosewood face on it. That would compliment my Quilted maple S2 frteless beautifully.
13. That's easy. Status S2 all the way. Fretted or fretless I have them both. I love the Status neck with the flat back, it just fits my hands perfectly. The body shape I have always loved, traditional twin horn design but in a modern style. For me a design classic. The sound from the soapbar pups is great, clear and sharp but with so much depth. There is no compromise in my Status basses unlike the other off-the-shelf basses I have. Something on each of them is a compromise be it neck profile, body shape, pickups, eq, you name it there is something I would change. Not on Status S2s though. Oh yes, and headless of course. Nothing more logical than the headless tuning system.
14. These last three basses shown are absolute crackers. Don't know which I prefer they're all just beautiful. Never mind Green Machine Technology, Green with envy more like.
15. My DB goes through a SansAmp Bass driver DI into Acoustic Image Contra. I don't need the amping to be too loud for the DB so it's there for support more than anything and it lets me hear something from the instrument. Contra isn't so good for electrics on its own so I have a Markbass 15" cab to go with it. That gives more head room with electrics, particualrly the Statii which are powreful.
16.
Love the SmartBass body shape, contempory but not kooky like the S2 or bloaty like the KingBass (sorry to happy owners of said basses, they're just not to my taste... unto each his own) MB1. ....Bloaty Kingbass?....What you feeding it?
Get your coat!!!
17. Well done, lovely. Green with envy! Hope you enjoy playing her for a long time. Graham
18. Just received the Markbass 15" cab from Matthew. Great condition and sound. Beautifully packaged too. Very smoth and trouble free deal. Pleasure doing business with you.
19. Silly money or not, it might also be seen as a marketing stunt for the shop. Look at the discussion it's created here in just a few hours. Now I know of another shop I've never heard of before. Can't pay for publicity like that.
20.
Not sure, Graham... But I think it roughly translates as, "I hereby bequeath all my basses to you, Brother!"
Like you don't have enough already!
21. Nice collection Rich. But, pray, what doth Brother Smith speak of when he endeth his writing?
22. I have a CR4M but I'm not aware that it came with Helicore Hybrids. Could be wrong though. It would certainly benefit from darker strings. Even in arco mode it's not DBish enough for me. But then they were not designed to be a replacement for DB.
