One caveat that must go with Bob Golihur's advice is when he says "most any 3/4 size upright bass string can be a candidate" certainly not all 3/4 strings will fit NS basses. Thomastic Spirocors for example do not fit. They are too short. Always check the playing length before you buy.

I'll endorse the Shadow too. I used to use the Realist but that gave up the ghost, as I'm told they are prone to do sometimes. The Shadow is even easier to install as you don't have to loosen any strings.

Lovely looking bass. I love the look of their 'Henzelli' bass. What kind of prices do their basses sell for?

So I take it from what everyone has said that all these shredding vids on youtube are actually the real thing. And there was me thinking it was just some dil overdubbing them to make them look bad.

I had a similar problem on my Spectorcore. That turned out to be the string not sitting properly into the saddle, the guage was too large. Maybe try using a slightly lighter guage of string. You could also try putting a shim of aluminium foil under it. I found that caused a little buzz though. Changing the strings sorted it for me.

I will defer to the greater knowledge on this forum regarding the various different types of DB. However, as a player of both DB and BG I can only paraphrase George Bernard Shaw and say they are two instruments separated by a common tuning. That's all they have in common whatever the scale length. Look on a DB as a new instrument and learn it as a completely new technique then you won't go wrong.

Well done Andy. You'll enjoy playing her a lot. Make sure you post these pics on statii.com
(actually, its the voices that make me do it - and of course, the basses talk to me `buy me daddy, please buy me - don't leave me' !!! * bank account! Nick
Oh, thank god I'm not alone.
I remember having a catalogue with Trace Bass Amps/Cabs and Basses way back when I was getting serious about Bass. Why don't they still make these? Surely a rare bass
They were indeed made by Status Graphite and they are still made as the Status T-Bass. Check it out HERE
Sorry to har about your preamp, mate. Is this on the 2000?
That's on the 2000. It's not really a big problem as it still has that great sound without the EQ engaged. As I say I don't want to be parted from it at the moment, it's just everything I've ever wanted in a fretted bass. I'll speak to Dawn sometime though and have them repair it.
never tried my one passive ie taking out batteries but admittedley never wanted to! do you think switch ommission was a redesign feature to cut out trouble your'e having? whaddya think?
The switch is not the problem, it's something on the board, probably a componant. Switch ommission might just have been an alternative as the two different boards are still available on the Status site. I think if you take the batteries out that will just switch the bass off, so no sound. As you say why run passive? The passive sound is the same as having the controls set flat anyway. Still a great sound. I'm running it through the EQ in my Zoom B2.1u and it is fantastic. My bass has lived all over the world, America, Switzerland, Netherlands and back to UK, so it's no surprise that something has given up. It is certainly going to be worth having it repaired when I am prepared to let it out my hands and send it to the factory. Can't face that quite yet. Withdrawl symtoms and all that.

The earlier S2000 models had the active/passive switch but that was removed from the later models. They used two different boards. The TB4 had no switch and the TB42 had the active/passive switch. My 2000 is an early model from 1984 with original GMT pickups.Must admit it is quite useful on mine as the preamp has problems and might need replacing.

If we are showing off our Statii at gigs here's The MP at a gig I played at the weekend with local country act Phil Bailey in Coldstream supporting T.J. Johnson.

Good to hear that Rich. I was looking through a lot of Ed Friedland's videos on you tube yesterday and I was struck just how generic all the basses sounded that he was playing. Even a six string MM Bongo. Maybe my ears have just become used to the sound of a Status bass. I remember a gig I played in April when I took the Washburn along. I put it through the Hartke kickback amp that was there and just had the most fantastic sound ever. It's the S2000 next weekend though. That should sound even better. I'm going to look into a Hartke Hydrive 112c early next year. The MP is sounding a bit flat through my Ashdown.
Ive got a 2000 serial number 370 similar to pic post #135. No coil tap or led, good condition (road worn admitedly-though that's no bad thing in my opinion) & status case. Can anyone know what that is worth these days? TA
I bought S2000 #84 (1984) recently for €1000. That translated into around £880 if that's of any help.

Bit more expensive than the Sonnus but there is the Roland GI-20. Mmmm! That's a bit sexy. Hope you enjoy her. -
Yeah, some gorgeous basses there. I'd agree with stingrayfan on the Yamaha. Those 80's BBs were lovely basses. I have a BB1100s which has a beautiful neck on it.
