If you have managed to register for Basschat then you can register with Photobucket, it's free. Then you follow the instructions on that site. Follow the Basschat instructions for uploading photos and then you might get a sale. Do you really want to sell the bass? http://photobucket.com/

That sounds like quite a good bass you have. Not just set up well but played in too. I find even when I play mine each week it takes about half an hour before I can say I'm happy with the sound from the instrument. There is just so much wood to get moving. I believe some luthiers actually place new fiddles on their hi-fi speakers to help 'play them in'. Good luck and you'll never be short of work with a DB.

I spoke to Hilary James at a gig once. Even though she plays a mandobass her oppinion wasn't high on them. They were made very cheaply and as a result not many old ones have survived. The Bass Centre had one in stock donkey's years ago priced over £3000. I was told that was way over priced and just stick with a double bass. Hilary just uses it for the novalty factor and has come to be associated with it. Tony Overwater plays a 'fretted' viola de gamba electric upright in this link. Solo at 2.45. Looks all but perfect. Now i've gone a bright shade of green (with envy of course).

So you bought the Streamline then Rich, well done. How are you getting on with it. It's an even smaller body than your KB 1. Quite a collection of Statii you have now.
Yes, born in Notting Hill, but to French parents. Could be argued either way I suppose-I think he would probably consider himself to be British. Was known simply as John until one of the Stranglers' managers saw the 'Jean-Jacques' on his passport, thought it more 'interesting' and persuaded him to start using it. Narrowly avoided the French national service in the 70's, so obviously eligible for it. Dunno.
Having French parents might make him French but if he is he's OUR French bass player!!!

Greg, I've been playing a Stentor Arcadia for 4 or 5 years now and had no problems with it whatsoever. I amplify it through a Shadow SH950 into an Acoustic Image Contra and get a great sound from it. It has a good acoustic sound too. The guys in my folk session love it. It cost me £1500 from the Violin Shop in Glasgow ready setup. They usually have about 10-15 basses in stock. As Jake said it probably wouldn't be a patch on a vintage German bass but you get what you pay for. Avoid Antoni basses like the plague! If you have the chance to try a few different basses, do. That will help you make a comparison. Graham
In the current climate , more than ever , it's worth what you can get for it. Probably less than you'd like. It's a gorgeous looking creature and unless you're being evicted or something I'd hang on to it and enjoy it.
Yeh, I'll go with Dr.Dave. The number of times I've heard "I used to have one of them, wish I still did". Your taste has changed to the Yamaha it may change back given time.
I still post on there occasionally, although I can't be bothered anymore with the epic flame-wars with people like Bruce Lindfield- I recall he was arguing vehemently that the Roscoe Beck 4string version would never go into production.....and guess what, it did and the 5 has been phased out...
Ah, Mr. Lindfiled. Now what was someone saying about TBers not having a sense of humor?
They do have a slight obsession with TI flatwound strings though lol.
Well so have I!!! Awsome, dude.
TO ALL FELLOW LOW ENDERS! LETS HAVE A BASSMUNGUS 2009!!!! Best Regards! Nick
Oh, you youngsters! It's now 30 years since I left. Any advance on that?

Thanks for posting the review Rich. Your bass is famous! Trying to decide whether or not I go for an Electro now. Hmm!!!

You just can't beat a good Status bass. That is so simple but so beautiful. Lucky boy.
-
Not all of us on TB are American. Having said that that bass is not my favourite shape either.

Looks great on you, Rich. Well done. Rob is the Messiah and he's a very clever boy. Has he built you your own little bed sit in the factory yet, Rich?
-
That top is just stunning. Is it just my funny eyes or is the bridge squint?
-
OK Rich, look into my eyes, not around them, look into my eyes. Your under. Now, you really do want to sell that S2 and you want to sell it at a cheap price. You're back in the room.

Yeh, I'll go along with GreeneKing. What Jaco did when he came to the fore was unique. Looking back on it now it may not seem that great at times but then a lot can change in 30 odd years. Look at Eric Clapton. In the days of Cream he could have changed his name to God. Some thought he was. Guitar playing has moved on a long way since then and makes Clapton's stuff look a bit ordinary. Same applies to bass playing.

That's a tidy looking bass ardi. Don't think you'll go wrong with a Zeller. A trumpet player I used to play with commented on how I'd never be short of work with a DB. Never a truer word was spoken.

Thanks for the replies. I have Black nylons on my Spectorcore but they are still a bit bright for my liking after some time on.

Has anyone ever tried using cello strings on a BG? It's that old Holy Grale of trying to find that DBish sort of sound on a BG. I would asume they have a shorter sustain time which might help with that sound. I use flats on my Status fretless but the they sustain for ever with the graphite neck. Any experience?

What are you using to amplify your double bass?
Never played through a cab with a rear facing speaker. Doesn't that cause trouble when your playing in a corner or against a wall?
Wouldn't have thought so. The wall becomes a sounding board and spreads the sound further. Take the Acoustic Image Contra. Tiny amp with a down firing 10inch speaker. Competes with large horn sections anyday. Lift it up off the floor and it looses all it's power. -
That's exactly where I had a buzz on my G string on my CR4M. I tweaked the truss rod just a bit until it disapeared. Very simple but don't ask me which way I turned the key. Can't remember, sorry.
