What a pity that gorgeous piece of wood has to be hidden round the back.

Oh, gee. Thanks for contributing to everyone's gas problem. But seriously, well done and I bet you'll have a good time with that.
sounds really stupid but make sure your disributing weight evenly on both feet, that really makes a difference. if you putting more weight on one foot you spine isnt straight.
This is not stupid at all. Very wise advice. A lot of the advice here might sound a bit boring but face it what's more boring that or being a cripple. No joking. I have had a lot of trouble with my back over the last two years all due to bad posture and working practice. Now an ostiopath checks it over every two months and releases any spasm. Playing the double bass for any length of time was causing real pain now that has gone. As you are new to the bass persevere for a while and if the problem continues then consider an osteopath. Often pain like you describe can come from bits of the body being out of balance due to bad habits we all develop throughout life.

I really didn't need to see that.
amazing looking instruments...where are the pickups?!
The pickup is in the bridge, piezo. It gives an acousticy type sound. Here's one of the Youtube links. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6oApthi3VQ Solo at 2.10

That looks just great with the black neck. Lucky boy.

I was just listening to L42 "Live at the Apollo" yesterday and I was struck by just how good MK's sound was on his Kingbass. I'm awaiting delivery of an S2 and I like the idea of the variable mid range control which, I'm sure, would be very useful for you in funk and jazz. Just being able to select two different settings from the bass seems a great idea. Why not visit http://www.statii.com/forum/news.php for any help on Status basses. And here's a Kingbass sounding quite different to the usual. This reminds me of the Jeff Berlin interview in BGM when he said "There's some people who can't play a four string bass, but now - with the added string which is becoming very popular today - they can't play five string either".
-
What is the height of the strings above the end of the neck? My NS has about 10mm space between string and fingerboard at the bottom end of the neck. What is the space at the nut? You should be able to fit no more than a credit card under the strings at the nut. My DB has less than that. The bridge appears to be adjustable so you should be able to raise or lower the action quite easily yourself. You shouldn't need to do anything else to it for now. DB action is better to be higher than EB as it allows you to dig in when playing.

Winter migration of the stagg!
BassBus replied to William James Easton's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Sounds Live in Newcastle seem to have one in stock. Good place to deal with. http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~S...ass~ID~7296.asp -
+1 The pedal is more than just a volume pedal. It can be assigned to all sorts of effects and can be used to bring them in or take them out. You can also use it to take your volume back to your own preset level and then boost it for, say, a solo. Endless possibilities for the pedal. Use your imagination.

Lovely sound to the bass. Sounds very much like an NS bass. Not sure about the looks though, only my opinion.

Get hold of Joni Mitchel's Hejira and listen to Jaco's work on that, esp. Refuge of the Roads.
why do you need that many? they are nice, but i get less excited about them when there are so many
Ehm, why not? I cannot understand why anyone would not want that many Statii!

What exactly does a warranty cover ?
BassBus replied to thewalruswaspaul's topic in General Discussion
As a warranty is really an insurance scheme, it's a bit like those for cars. If you mod a car without telling the insurance company about it they may well not pay out in event of a claim. These companies have a rep for finding a way out of paying up for these schemes. Maybe a bit of buyer beware. My 2 pence. -
Merton's bass is ok I spose....! Actually, tis a peach! Mmmm!! Lovin them Kingbasses - probably be able to get one cheap now that they are the `old' shape eh guys?!
Yeh, right!!!

Try the Violin Shop in Glasgow. I bought my DB there. They have a large stock (for DBs anyway, 10-15 basses). You'll get good advice and prices range from about £500 to £XK. They are also well set up which cannot be said for all DBs you'll find in music shops or the internet. A good setup is esential! Yeh, nice basses. The new stock basses that caght my eye most were the walnut and cocobolo faced S2s. They just look fantastic. Bit like your cocobolo S2 Rich. You lucky man.

I know it's a while since you posted this but I'll at least give a reply. This is an ongoing question and at the end of the day comes down to taste. A lot of NS players have used Thomastic Spirocores which bow well. Other good sets are Pirastro Flexicor. When you buy DB strings for an NS bass make sure they are long enough. I recently measured the playing length of my DB at 102cm and my NS at 106cm. Thomastic sets would be best to be 4/4 sets as 3/4 strings are too short. Flexocors only seem to come in 4/4 and are good for bowing (arco/orchestral). Orchestral strings have a shorter sustain as it is the bow which sustains the note. Pizicato strings have a longer sustain when plucked and are not always good for bowing, though there are exceptions. If you want it to sound more DBish lift the action up quite a bit as that helps a lot. Changing to DB strings will help a lot too. hope that's of some help.

I should give Rob a call at Status. I saw a post on one bass forum about a JD with a similar problem which was sorted at JD. Might also be the time to think about fitting a graphite neck to the bass.

With the mention of that supermarket a thought has just crossed my mind. A quote I heard recently from a friend. This person loves Tesco because it keeps the riff raff out of Waitrose. Maybe there is some reasoning behind the behaviour of the staff in the Bass Cellar after all.
I've got the Shadow, can't remember the model number but the one that fits under the wings of the bridge. Might be the SH950. Sound is okay, does its job but I think in order to get a truly accurate sound out of a PA, you need to have it miced up as well and mix the signals. That's what Renaud Garcia-Fons does and it sounds awsome.
Well you certainly can't question that. Lovely sound and great player.
I think it's a thin person's bass, LOL! That'll be what the main focus of the shape redesign will have been about...
Just what are you trying to suggest here, Rich? Is this aimed at anyone in particular?

Thanks for that Merton. How dare he not give them their bass back. Who does he think he is! Interesting Rob was never happy with the headed KB, I never thought it looked good with a head. Just my opinion of course but then I am a great fan of the headless principle. Just so logical.
