Overwater
My UK built overwater jazz bass had the very worst neck joint I have ever seen on a bass, with its 3.2mm thick poorly made shim.( which still wasn't enough to get a playable low action) Chris May seems to think this is fine on a bolt on neck joint,I however didn't. Personally I'd rather own a Tanglewood built bass.
This has to be an exception. I cannot fault the build of my Scott Devine Perception in any way. The neck joints that Martin Lee builds are so tight they hang the basses on the wall without any bolts. I have seen that for myself.

Slightly different shape are the Tanglewoods The Aspiration The OW Perception (smaller, curvier body) The OW Progress (bigger body) The Tanglewoods have not been made for some years now. The production wasn't as straight forward as Chris had hoped. They now assemble a cheaper bass in Carlisle which has neck and body built in the Far East based on the Aspiration body. The Insperation
3. I came upon a set of FLs in a trade on here. I had only ever used Status flats which have too high a tension for me. The FLs have not just lower tension but more tone. If you like the lower tension you could try Overwater flats. Much the same tension as FLs but at a lower price and just as much tone.
4. Photos? Upload your photos to a host such as Photobucket. Each photo will then have an address at the side marked Direct link. Click on that which copies it. then come back to 'reply to this topic' here. above the reply box is a little icon that looks like a TV, click that. Paiste into the box that comes up and click OK. Repeat for each photo and post the reply.
5. I'll buy it for the quoted quid! Does that include postage?
6. Just taken delivery of Dan's One Control AB Box which he was kind enough to sell to me. Probably the perfect transaction. Very fast and smooth. Great communications and a gentleman to boot. Highly recommended.
7. It doesn't really have to be complicated. You can make it as simple or complicated as you want. Have a look at The Chords of Orion videos. Bill Vincel makes some very creative use of simple delay pedals to get lovely big ambient sounds.
8. You could use all the pedals listed above but at a cost. Best to start with a volume pedal or a Mooer Slow Engine auto volume, if you're lazy like me. The other must haves are a delay and a reverb. Put the delay in front of the reverb with several repeats and then max out the reverb. Job done. Also look through Andy Othling's series of ambient tips. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4R-Gx_gaWU&list=PLgt6WPxUgZIqP5idHHn_kylwTCzNUrHIO

10. I wasn't so sure about the darker colouring but assembled that actually looks quite special.
11.
...have bass-player demographics really changed that much?
No. 80% of bass players still play Fender type instruments.
12. Common sense really. I think you summed it up in your first sentence. Back in the 70s, and I was there too, rock musicians were all young. Those same musicians are still playing today and are suffering from having to lift all those heavy cabinets around. Technology has also changed. Speaker magnets are much lighter now if you want them to be. There is the choice. If you want a big, heavy cab buy one. If you want you want a small light cab buy one. Your choice. I know what I have gone for. Same reason I have suspension on my mountain bike.
13.
... and I don't even attempt chords
Oh yes, do try chords. That is one of the best ways to get the intonation right. They will sound horrible to begin with but stick at it and they can sound amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNum9VxhKds
14. Get one with lines on it. Then you'll know where you are. Lovely instruments with a great sound when you nail the intonation. As with anything a teacher will help but I learnt fretless without one. I'm sure some will say it shows.

Status B2
thanks! So would you say the EQ01 has more range of tones?
In a word yes. Mind you Alan also offers other filter based preamps too. http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/basses/electronics/

Status B2
What makes you prefer the status?
I suppose it's just simplicity. It is just easier to cut or boost a single frequency. The Status pre works on both pickups at once as well. As you will know the EQ01 has low pass adjustment for the individual pickups.

Status B2
how would you guys describe the on board electronics to say an EQ01 on an ACG? I love those electronics
I don't think you can compare the two as one is high/low pass filter based the other cut/boost of pre selected frequencies. I have both and prefer the bass, mid, treble of the Status. There is no doubt that there is a wealth of tones available from the ACG/East pre.

Status B2

My Series 3 is in my view the best fretted bass I have ever played. It is the Status necks that get my vote each time. They are a perfect fit for my hands. The graphite generally regarded as being more stable in various climatic conditions. Love the electronics too. I find the mid switch on the 303 board very useful. I don't have any experience with the B2 but it will have the usual high build quality from Status.
19. Stringsdirect have a number of brands of double ball strings. You can use single ball strings with the grub screws in the head piece as well.
20. Saw that earlier today. I think the "head" looks hidious. They could have used a bit more imagination for that, particularly on a bass that costs nearly $12000. Looks as if it has had a bad accident. As always, MG's playing is astonishingly brilliant.
21. I have a couple of voodoo labs on my board, pedal power 2 plus and 4x4. The 4x4 has two 9v/12v outputs at 400 mA, four 9v at 100 mA and two 9v at 400 mA. I take a current doubler cable out a 400 and 100 sockets and that powers the Zoom ms60b's 500 mA just fine. That's probably best for high current pedals. Again plenty of others out there.
22. Your power supply should cope with the power requirements of the Strymon pedals but this sounds like an isolation problem. You could try looking into power bricks that have isolated outputs. Plenty on the market. That should sort things for you. Other more knowledgable BCers might come along with more detail.
23. Bought some planet waves patch cables from Chris. Very slick deal and his communications were most excellent. Highly recommended.
24. Thanks Rikki, really appreciate that.
