1. In a talk about ambient I heard a comment on a review of Eno's 'Music For Hotels'. That critic said "why don't you just write music for hospitals and then we can all die there. Well Eno is still a highly regarded musician and producer 40 years on. Where is that critic now? Does anyone know who he is? Think that says it all.
2. As I hear it I would not change anything. Good use of layers. More of that. To those who don't get ambient think of it this way. Ambient is not about drums or beats or tunes generally. Steve Lawson describes it as film music without the film. Try closing your eyes and putting your own images to it. See what happens.
3. I would agree they don't suit every bass. I had a set on my Overwater fretless and wasn't blown away by them. Put a set of Labella 760fl on and and that did the job. However, Inalways felt they sounded great on my Spectorcore when I had that. On balance I would go with the Labellas again. Just my taste though.

5. His Uncle is a very good drummer as well.
6. Thanks for the comments guys. Dish washing music. Hmm, new genre?
7. I have re-copied the link into the post so it should be OK. Listed as Public on the site.
8. Give me a tick and I'll try and sort it.
9. Another ambient flavoured tune. The Flashback delay has arrived so on the board. Lovely piece of kit, just have to learn how to use it. Ending didn't turn out quite as expected but still plenty of noise. WARNING: If you are at all offended by the use of a pick on a bass or a bass guitar that doesn't always sound like a bass guitar then you might want to give this a miss. On the other hand you could live dangerously, you know you want to. http://youtu.be/v1GOVD8oBTk
10. Some info on Spectorworld.com http://www.spectorwo...om/bspector.htm Buy it and do it up!!!

Best looper?
Bassbus, you expressed an interest in my earlier thread and I would wholeheartedly recommend the 'Rang.
Where did you buy the Boomerang? There's also the new Ditto X4 from TC. Has midi as well. http://youtu.be/U0xfEp4UpDE

Best looper?

If you want to do fripertronics the best one for that is the Boomerang III. Trouble is you need a bank loan to buy it. If you want long sustained notes it allows you to do that with no audible join. On other loopers you can record a blank track and then record your audio over the blank. That's a real faff though. I use the Boss RC-50 too. I have a Ditto x2 at the front of my board which allows me to put a loop through the effects at the end of a piece. Good for quick sketches as well. I'm sure you will have seen the Pigtronix and EHX loopers too but I Have no experience with them. The Boss RC-300 looks quite interesting but I'm not sure how it would cope with long sustained notes without any audible join.
13. The Smart bass was at the 'cheap' end of Status. Don't let that put anyone off. They will be most exillent basses.
14. It's a defret as well. That was never born a fretless.
15. Another good one to learn from is Jason at Fodera who did a series a few months ago on the same subject. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgmoRHr2cD8
16. Will he be selling some of his energy? He never seems to stop. Been a fan for some time now. Love his attitude and playing, great bass tone too.
17. How did your piece go at uni, ambient?
18. I'd say take a leaf out of Janek Gwizdala's book. Get yourselves onto every social media site possible. Write blogs on these sites as updates of what is happening with the band. Start now with the info on the recording. Starts to build up the interest. Look at how early record companies release they artists records to radio stations. Basschat, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and any other site you can think of. It doesn't cost anything but a bit of your time. Answer questions quickly and keep adding to blogs and updates regularly as this lets Google know you are active and might help you get up the search stats. I'm sure others will come in with their experience.
19. I think it very much depends on the piece of wood being used. With some pieces they open out into the most beautiful patterns. In that case why would you want anything other than book matched. On the other hand, a bass is not a symmetrical object so does it really need a symmetrical face on it? I'm happy if it's just a good looking wood on the face.
20.
The Hotel California is closed tonight. RIP
You can check out any time you like but you can never leave. There seems to be a spate of name deaths at this time every year. Sad times. But all these guys have burnt the candle at both ends.
21. Jason from Fodera recently did a series of videos on setting up your bass. All the videos are very clear and easy to follow. They take you through neck relief, action, intonation and all the tools you'll need to carry out the work. Follow them and you'll know exactly what to do. http://youtu.be/cgmoRHr2cD8
22. I must be very wonky then (don't anyone comment on that ). That's an amazing shape.
23. This is interesting listening back to it again. I feel it is still a bit quiet. I feel there are times you could use the headroom a bit more so that some parts almost assault the ears. This would bring a lot more colour in to it. At present it is maybe a bit flat. Bringing some quieter parts up would bring more clarity to it. Just my observations from recent listening to more ambient pieces. I do like the way you have used the stereo spectrum. That works well. This is as valid a form of 'music' as any other. Without more avant garde music things might not move on at all. Think back to early Pink Floyd which had a strong ambient flavour to it, not that it was called ambient at the time. Look how they developed though.
