1. Quite load enough on my iPad. Just wish it was a bit longer. On the other hand, does it need to be. Incidental music is only going to be used in shorts snippets. Make sure you post the video when it's done.
2. They are 9v pre amps but have the output of an 18v. Monstrous sound. I liked them so much I have J and U-Retros and an ACG EQ-01. All brilliant and easy to use. And yes, John is very easy to deal with, apart from being a genius at pre amp design.
3. I like that. Nice laid back feel to it. Plenty of variation too which always keeps the listener interested.
4.
Very nice indeed! You kind of lose yourself in it and almost forget it's on only to catch yourself listening to it later on. But then that's sort of the point of ambient music, right? Two thumbs up, while definitely keep an eye out for the next one.
Thanks, as Cameron said, music to wash dishes by. The next one is turning out to be quite abstract. Leaning more to pure ambient.
great sounds! Please feel free to ignore me, but... When it builds up to the point of distortion, the distortion isn't very nice. It might be worth putting a nicer dirt pedal or amp sim at the end of the chain, or if you wanted it clean then a limiter. I would love to have a go on your pedal board inside a feedback loop!
The distortion is part of the lofi delay type. It wasn't meant to be that way. It was meant to be on the tape delay which brought the sound from the ditto back in a kind of wash. Somehow I nudged the switch. Ho hum, as Brian Eno has said, celebrate your mistakes. That's what you learn from.
Very nice! I like the effects on the bass lead that sound like singing, only think i'd say is you could pick closer to the neck on the melody stuff, make it sound a bit mellow but thats my personal preference.
Thanks. I picked it where I did as I wanted that punch to the tone when the tune started. Maybe an idea for the future though.
5. As I understand it you can't really compare these two. The Zoom is a multi-FX which allows you to use quite a number of effects at the same time. The M5 only allows you to use one effect at a time.
6. Great playing and don't forget MK played a Fender Jazz for a while.
7. If it's time to give up, it's time to give up. In 2013 I realised I was feeling the same way. Chucked in the session I'd played at for 17 years and jazz band I was in for 13. Wasn't a popular move but what's the point in being in something you aren't enjoying any more. You won't be able to give any energy to it. Two and a bit years on from that I'm enjoying my music more than I have for years. Other interests have come back too with a new energy. My point is give yourself some time to 'wander' and just see where life takes you. What wants to come back will and you'll enjoy it even more. Oh, and don't sell your gear.
8. On reverb nation you can select whether or not to receive emails from them in 'email preferences' on your account page. Disable it and the annoying emails stop immediately.
9. 18 million users most of whom will be using for free. Average salary of the employees of € 79,000. Hmm, wonder what has gone wrong?
10. Some more explanations here which expand on what he said above. http://music.stackexchange.com/questions/1900/position-of-white-dots-in-guitar-fretboard
11. I would hazard a guess that these points are where you can pick the harmonics. That is the equal subdivisions of the string. 12th halves the string, 5th quarters the string, etc. I know you can pick harmonics in other places like the fourth fret and just past the third.
12. Seems like he got the better deal with you. There you are, you don't even need to close your eyes. The images are there and the music fits perfectly. Good job. Nice one for the CV.
13. I like that. Nice intro to a theatre show.
14. In a talk about ambient I heard a comment on a review of Eno's 'Music For Hotels'. That critic said "why don't you just write music for hospitals and then we can all die there. Well Eno is still a highly regarded musician and producer 40 years on. Where is that critic now? Does anyone know who he is? Think that says it all.
15. As I hear it I would not change anything. Good use of layers. More of that. To those who don't get ambient think of it this way. Ambient is not about drums or beats or tunes generally. Steve Lawson describes it as film music without the film. Try closing your eyes and putting your own images to it. See what happens.
16. I would agree they don't suit every bass. I had a set on my Overwater fretless and wasn't blown away by them. Put a set of Labella 760fl on and and that did the job. However, Inalways felt they sounded great on my Spectorcore when I had that. On balance I would go with the Labellas again. Just my taste though.
17.
Ian McShane
Definitely what he said.
18. His Uncle is a very good drummer as well.
19. Thanks for the comments guys. Dish washing music. Hmm, new genre?
20. I have re-copied the link into the post so it should be OK. Listed as Public on the site.
21. Give me a tick and I'll try and sort it.
22. Another ambient flavoured tune. The Flashback delay has arrived so on the board. Lovely piece of kit, just have to learn how to use it. Ending didn't turn out quite as expected but still plenty of noise. WARNING: If you are at all offended by the use of a pick on a bass or a bass guitar that doesn't always sound like a bass guitar then you might want to give this a miss. On the other hand you could live dangerously, you know you want to. http://youtu.be/v1GOVD8oBTk
23. Some info on Spectorworld.com http://www.spectorwo...om/bspector.htm Buy it and do it up!!!

Best looper?
Bassbus, you expressed an interest in my earlier thread and I would wholeheartedly recommend the 'Rang.
Where did you buy the Boomerang? There's also the new Ditto X4 from TC. Has midi as well. http://youtu.be/U0xfEp4UpDE

Best looper?

If you want to do fripertronics the best one for that is the Boomerang III. Trouble is you need a bank loan to buy it. If you want long sustained notes it allows you to do that with no audible join. On other loopers you can record a blank track and then record your audio over the blank. That's a real faff though. I use the Boss RC-50 too. I have a Ditto x2 at the front of my board which allows me to put a loop through the effects at the end of a piece. Good for quick sketches as well. I'm sure you will have seen the Pigtronix and EHX loopers too but I Have no experience with them. The Boss RC-300 looks quite interesting but I'm not sure how it would cope with long sustained notes without any audible join.
